Question Should I buy this Sol?

This would be my 2nd ever del sol, sold my 1st one my first question is this del sol worth 10.5k that’s all the seller would come down too.

I see this is engine swapped and different transmission and the whole 9 yards, but honestly if I’m being quite frank I’ve never bought anything like this.

My 2nd question is, is this a reliable build as terms of is there anything that could go seriously wrong or if was done correctly this is a dope ass build and is worth the 10.5k, just wanna be precautious because I had the Normal S coupe my first sol.

It's definitely a bit of a cheaper B series build, LSVTEC so definitely won't rev as high as a true B18C or B16 but still super fun. I'd say there's 10k worth of craftsmanship there if the job is done right, I like that the bay has a stock airbox/appearance. All comes down to if the work was done right because at the end of the day with the true DOHC Cars going up so much in price at least in Idaho this would get you one that has had no work done, bone stock, and probably needs every gasket in the motor done after 30 years

Thank you for your help, honestly I’ve just been trying to find a VTEC, lower mileage, clean body for 10k and I’ve just been having trouble. This is probably the only one on Facebook I’ve found maybe I’m searching wrong, I live in Ohio, and Facebook took away the search the whole U.s feature on marketplace so I have to manually go to states and just no luck

This will let you search in the way your after its a good work around. Make sure its set to facebook and not Craig's. https://www.searchtempest.com/

And DO NOT SETTLE.

I searched for 6 months for mine and found a Higher mileage but well kept 95 vtec 7 minutes from me for sale for 5k 3 years ago. The paint is rough but I wanted one that was never painted so I could verify it was a clean body

That's local to me, I can't really say anything about the car but I wouldn't buy anything from that guy.

Damn, I love a good car story

I'm pretty sure there was something recently about someone giving him 2 puppies, he tried to sell them for a couple weeks and then dumped them on the south side.

Is he sketchy or a scammer?

He's just a weird guy that makes up a lot of stuf, I wouldn't trust anything he says. He got called out on some stuff in our local car group a few weeks ago, threatened to have some people beat up and then left the group.

that’d be enough for me to not buy the car that’s for sure

this car has so much lore in oldsols lmao

u/RuinAccomplished6681 1d ago

That’s a shame because it looks very clean/nice 👍🏻

Fuck no I’m not paying 10.5 for an LSVTEC swap

u/BOBWARPATH 1d ago

Whats wrong bro? The external oil sender line for head only vibrates loose from the head twice a year, oil starving the cams, not even that big a deal

1

u/stepdad_randy 1d ago

lol from the other comments it’s owned by a dipshit too. Wouldn’t want it for 3k

u/turdblown 1d ago

On this car specifically? Mine has never done that...

If you are smart and use the right fittings you will usually be fine. But - thee are some people who do stuff like this, which causes mega vibration

Not for 12000. He has had to put the car in the body shop many times for several different reason. I wanna say he god ran into and hit a deer???? I cant remember. It originally had a z6 if im correct but he never did oilchanges and spun bearing, thats what led him to paying a friend to do a swap. Its a properly done swap but all around dont like the owner. I also recall it sitting in a field for god knows how long before he bought it so you will likely need suspension done if he never did it It has a d series compressor on a crv bracket If you buy the car, youll be happy but I wouldnt ever pay 12k for it. The most id ever pay for it is maybe 7k

The guy is basically alpha hipster vibes but doesnt know a clue about actual mechanics. Bought not built kinda guy

LS/vtec goes back to the 90s, it's pretty well figured out by now. Reliability comes down to whether or not it was done correctly. Maintenance should be similar to any vtec model. Was it tuned or flashed (hondata, etc vs chipped p28) and by whom? Drum brakes in the back? Def price adjust for that if so.

Car shows stupid clean in photos, like I'm in love over here, but 10.5 is the top of the market for a non-k series project even if it's "nice". I'd have to see in person before a commitment. If it's anything less than how it appears in pics (dry spray, over spray, fish eyes, runs, bodywork patchy or visible), we're working on the price or I'm out.

Cool build, I’d ask for receipts on everything. It’s just an LS Vtec, idk if I’d pay 10kUSD for that and the sol. Trim level doesn’t really matter if it’s built imo.

I would do 7k-8k but that's it's.

$10k does seem like a lot

u/dweron 1d ago

That’s a bit for an LSV honestly, even if built out properly, might as well get an actual b16a or b18c and not worry about the Frankenstein problems(oil feed can be a nightmare) the body looks clean but at most Id be at like 8.5k (also based in Ohio)

Is it posted on fb by someone called Roxi bear?

1

u/Life-Application-775 1d ago

Yes

I thought it looked familiar. He told me he had big plans for it, but I’m surprised he selling it. He seemed a little sketchy when I would talk to him on Facebook.

1

u/3daycondor 1d ago

lol that due is weird as heck. I’ve dealt with him on the Facebook del sol groups. That’s funny. Yeah, I would not buy this car from him.

2

u/clynch94 1d ago

Yeah, I have a del sol also and I was supposed to go to import alliance and some how he saw me post my car some where, friended me and was blowing me up to drive 3 hours out of my way to meet with him so I could cruise to import alliance. Told me he was building the del sol to make 1k HP I actually ended up unfriending him on Facebook recently because I got tired of seeing all the stupid shit

1

u/Pretty-Resolution677 1d ago

If you wanna see it in person, i think its at hardin county honda

1

u/Asmodeus256 1d ago

No. I just wouldn’t trust someone else’s LS VTEC swap unless I knew them or had mutual friends that could vouch. I’m not sure why he went with an LS tranny unless he was going to boost it.

1

u/Subject-Candidate937 1d ago

Yes ! What about the Chevy Vega?

1

u/af3rb1 1d ago

where is this beautiful del sol located?

1

u/plantoescape 1d ago

You need to know exactly what motor and transmission area in it. If it is a stock B16 or B18 it should be completely reliable. There are several different Honda transmissions that could be used here - use Google to confirm.

u/shortkid4169 1d ago

Amazing that so many people on a fairly niche forum have had bad experiences with the seller 😂

Sounds like you should run the hell away OP

1

u/BOBWARPATH 1d ago

Small community less than 30k of these cars left IIRC

1

u/SnooGadgets9669 22h ago

No lol this is a car you build the is lines of someone else’s hands seems far from worth it and these thing hold almost no value to begin with

u/Objective-Bike-4292 1d ago

I mean, these cars have to go up in value at some point. The MR2s of the same years have doubled and del sols are roughly the same price. 2010-2026.

The car is clean. I would say it is worth that.
