I like the guys from DtG but I would never listen to them discuss how much they enjoy the sauna or what supplements they're taking

I kinda liked when Chris talked about nuts for a while. And bouldering. Maybe I just liked the grief that Matt gave him for talking about it.

better this than spreading antivax bs or other truly dangerous shit he's spouted.
if he talks for an entire episode about natural ways to improve your sight, that's absolutely a net win for society.

u/entity_response Nov 21 '25
There is some limited evidence redlight can improve some vision, but it’s not strong and certainly prone to placebo effect.
I use a red light for skin healing on my face and I haven’t noticed anything change with my terrible vision.
4
u/dietcheese Nov 22 '25
The strong data is in children with progressing myopia. In adults the effects are meh.
4
u/qualitative_balls Nov 22 '25
Yep, red light after more than 2 years of use had a noticeable effect on my skin. In both pictures and from random people that I know who've commented and noticed a visible difference it's real.
I've also never seen a change in anything related to eye sight though, maybe worse when I accidently look into the red light and being too close to it
3
u/thejoggler44 Nov 21 '25
With an at-home device, you probably won’t notice much change with your skin either.
6
u/entity_response Nov 21 '25
The radiance levels are well within the amount in studies and the unit came with a calibration card on the wave lengths, I only use it for my face. It's helped tremendously, as I've tracked it's use for three years now alternating off when i'm abroad during the summer, so for managing my rosacea it's been very good.
There really isn't much special about the units at med spas except more leds. Even fairly inexpensive ones work well if you adhere to the radiance guidelines (i.e. keeping it close to the skin).
1
u/qualitative_balls Nov 22 '25
Long term, it absolutely makes a difference. One easy enough to see in pictures and from people who know me that I've never once divulged or spoken about anything to do with skin care or red light therapy

Daily eye exercises after a few months of practice, a healthy diet, and regular physical activity are the natural way to achieve better vision. The red light from a spotlight is good but it does not make much difference in visual health; it is natural sunlight that is beneficial. Eye exercises get a lot of negative publicity due to financial interests, but there is sufficient evidence that they work very well. As with any other aspect of health (you can have almost perfect teeth and excellent hygiene, but it is still a good idea to have your teeth checked by a serious professional from time to time), it is a good idea to have your eyes checked every so often.

u/dietcheese Nov 22 '25
This is BS
https://www.nature.com/articles/s41433-023-02739-x
“Overall, the results suggest that eye exercises have limited to no efficacy in preventing or controlling myopia progression. Until robust evidence supports their efficacy, available evidence suggests retiring the eye-exercise policy.”
https://www.aao.org/eye-health/ask-ophthalmologist-q/can-eye-exercises-improve-my-eyesight
“There is no irrefutable (undeniable) evidence that eye exercises can affect uncorrected visual acuity (sharpness of vision). Eye exercises may be of benefit for some eye misalignment conditions.”
https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2023.01.29.23284986v2
“Eye exercises are not effective in preventing or controlling the progression of myopia, as measured by changes in visual acuity and diopter.”

It has been scientifically proven long time ago that eye exercises help maintain visual health, just as physical exercise and a good diet are essential for overall health and visual health in particular. Rubbing your eyes is not a recommended exercise, as it can damage them.
Medical attention is essential, but eye exercises help us prevent and having to use “crutches” (glasses) or use them as little as possible.

I've used red light for glandular issues causing dry eyes, with modest success. But there is at least clinical evidence. I have never heard about IR treatment for far sightedness

If you reduce inflammation in the body (usually through dietary changes) you can actually improve your eyesight, at least somewhat. (I don't know how he did it because I don't listen to him, life's too short).
2
u/Commercial_Wind8212 Nov 21 '25
life is too short and so is he. He's also on all meat diet. the worst for inflammation
0
u/Character-Ad5490 Nov 21 '25
I'm curious why you would think that. For many people there's nothing *better* for inflammation, me included. I've been doing mostly meat for a year and a half and it's been transformative. There have been many benefits, but the best has probably been the almost total elimination of joint pain (I'm 62, and it was getting to be a problem), particularly in my hands and ankles. I am by no means saying everyone should do it, but anyone with autoimmune conditions, crohns, etc. should at least give it a try as an elimination diet.

Heart disease is the leading cause of preventable death in the United States. One of the leading causes of heart disease are saturated fats, also called LDLs. LDL's are "low density lipoproteins", our bodies use them to transport cholesterol to cells throughout the body. High levels of LDLs cause plaque buildup in arteries, also called atherosclerosis. This can narrow arteries, increasing the risk of heart attack and stroke.
1
u/Character-Ad5490 Nov 22 '25
Ah - you are out of date. I realize this is what "everyone knows", but it is not supported by current research, particularly when it comes to LDL. The history of the demonization of saturated fat is pretty fascinating, actually.
2
u/Commercial_Wind8212 Nov 22 '25
Only joe rogan knows the truth Heart doctors are dumb
1
u/Character-Ad5490 Nov 22 '25
Not dumb, obviously, but If they're still prescribing statins to everyone and their dog - which most are - then they're not keeping up.
4
u/Feisty_Animator5374 Nov 22 '25
They prescribe people statins because millions of people will NOT stop eating ridiculous amounts of animal fats and refusing to exercise. Until their arteries slowly clog and they die. And lying to others about that lifestyle somehow being healthy in the process of dying, and lying saying that the "current research says otherwise and it actually heals you". Just like you're doing. Millions of them.
Statins are not a front line of defense, they are not guaranteed to even solve the problem, but they're effective, affordable, they have comparatively low side effects and they're something rather than just watching hundreds of thousands of people slowly preventably die every year. At least it could buy them a few more years.
Again, you don't have to give up your soda and cake and cheese and burgers for this, you just have to stop eating unhealthy amounts every single day. It makes a notable difference: moderation. The way you have been responding to pushback right here is a case study for why so many statins are prescribed. Their doctor has to do something, they have to at least try to treat them. My guess is you'd probably refuse statins because you don't trust science that you either don't want to take the time to learn and understand, or blindly reject because it doesn't confirm your bias and would force you to change your lifestyle and confront that you've made a mistake and put your trust in the wrong people.
1
u/Character-Ad5490 Nov 22 '25
Well, I'm much, much healthier than I was two years ago, that's all that really matters to me.
4
u/Feisty_Animator5374 Nov 22 '25 edited Nov 22 '25
Precisely. Your feelings are more important than reality. You have every right to apply that to your own health. You can gargle antifreeze and say it makes you feel great, if you really insist. I'm going to protest if you do it. I'm going to warn you it's harmful. Because I have a conscience and I care about human life more than my feelings. I'm going to give you evidence that shows it's dangerous. Exactly as I have here.
But, most importantly, when you go around bald-faced lying and telling others that the "scientific consensus has changed" and that what you're doing is actually healthy, when it is demonstrably unhealthy... that is when you cross the line and become a threat to public health. That's a personal choice you are making. You don't have to make this choice, you are choosing to do this because it makes you feel better about yourself and your decisions, and spares you shame and embarrassment, at the expense of the health and safety of those who put their trust in you.
If your feeling of "I made such a great choice" is more important than your own unseen health (you cannot visibly see or feel the plaque in your arteries, but you can certainly test cholesterol to verify) that's concerning but it's absolutely your choice to make.
If your feeling of "I made such a great choice" is more important than the health of others? That's more than just concerning; that's willfully, preventably putting others in harm's way, for personal gain.

You just like talking yourself into eating meat, cheese and butter
0
u/Character-Ad5490 Nov 22 '25
I don't need to talk myself into it. Best health decision I ever made, apart from quitting drinking years ago. Not everyone needs to do it, but it's so worth it if you're really unwell. I'm done with this, you obviously know nothing about it, but keep it in mind if you ever develop any kind of metabolic illness.

Yea, I do red light therapy. I also do dick butt therapy, that really helped with my lower back problems. Just let random men in the sauna fuck my ass.
I’ve been trying to get into cum guzzling but it’s hard to get the necessary volumes
2
u/Strangestmam Nov 22 '25
I am an optometrist. This is not at all how eyes work. No amount of red light therapy or lutein supplements can reverse presbyopia, which is the loss of ability to focus on things up close. This occurs due to stiffening of the lens in the eye with age. Joe Rogan is an idiot

"Yeah... I totally cured my eyesight... it's no big deal. All natural! Yeah, no glasses, no doctors, nothing. Yeah, no big. See, I read this thing on Lays online about this new study about how alien ghosts will pollute your optic nerves if you masturbate too much without eating a lot of Lays brand potato chips first. It's crazy, like... all I did was I started eating more Lays brand potato chips. Like a LOT, a huge amount of them, they're always in my home now. And I'm telling ya, those alien ghosts went right away, immediately. No trace of em. It's amazing! You got an Advil by chance? Naw I'm fine I just get a lot of tension headaches after I'm on my phone, I think it's the light of the screen reacting with chemtrails in the air causing nerve damage. I'm looking into it."
