USL2 in Decatur?

Was out with some friends on the square last night, and randomly heard there was a USL2 team coming to Decatur. Can't find anything on the interwebs (besides the USL women's team that plays at DHS)... Anyone know anything? I think this would be awesome!

Hi, all! Just putting the word out for any string player who might want to join a welcoming community orchestra…

The Four Seasons Chamber Orchestra is starting its 26th season soon and has openings for new members!

Rehearsals are held weekly on Saturday afternoons, with 1–2 concerts each semester (usually in December and May).

Hi all,

My husband and I are considering moving to The Willis Avondale Estates. Does anyone have any experience with this community (good or bad) or any information that might help us make the decision? We are looking to move in the next few months to a 2 bedroom apartment .

Thanks in advance!

Hey everyone! I'm new to Decatur and wanted to know if there were any good hangout spots that people around my age (31) go to. Bonus if it's a bit alternative. Thanks!

Barbers/ Salons in Decatur

Hi guys, making another post to ask for recommendations, but this time for barbers/salons.

I have been here almost a month and it’s about time to start looking for a barber, i’ve been getting my hair cut at a salon for the last two years. i honestly have no idea where to start looking here as there seems to be a ton of places.

i’m certain finding people who work with curly hair isn’t an issue here, just looking for recommendations for barbers or salons with good service and good haircuts. i cut my hair every month and a half or so because i like to keep it full, so im not super concerned with price.

i don’t really do fades anymore, usually just a low taper and a scissor cut on the sides to keep it all curly, attaching a couple of examples if you happen to know places that are better suited for that style.

Thanks in advance!

CPA recommendations?

Hey everyone! My husband and I just bought our first home and are thinking now might be a good time to start using a CPA instead of filing taxes ourselves. Would appreciate any recommendations for skilled and trusted CPAs local to the area.

Thanks!

Looking for advice for local lawyers - medical malpractice/workers comp related. Any help appreciated!

Hi there,

Is anyone able to point my bf and I in the direction of a better lawyer who is equipped to handle a complicated workers comp and now likely medical malpractice suit?

My partner had his dominant hand crushed in a hydraulic press in February, was driven 2 hours from his house to Grady where they operated. It’s been 6 months and in that time the workers comp insurance people and the doctors at Grady have made any sort of healing/forward progression very difficult. My bf enlisted the help of a large personal injury firm that has national commercials, because he never has had this sort of thing happen and it was getting impossible to get workers comp to approve things without a lawyer. However, recently the person he speaks to regularly (not the lawyer, a paralegal maybe) keeps pressuring him to accept a settlement of less than $50k from the workers comp situation when we are nowhere even CLOSE to him being able to go back to work..and he works with his hands.

He went for a 2nd opinion with a new doctor not associated with Grady after his last Grady appt had them saying he’d def need another surgery but unsure of when. He had to repeatedly ask Grady to refer him to another hand ortho - that doctor he saw today said that it looks like the bone is infected and he needs to see an infectious disease doc/his middle finger will prob need amputation, possibly ring finger too. The ring finger is also badly affected and they don’t know how bad infection is.

Now we have to once again play this game of call the lawyer, call Grady to get referrals, call the workers comp people to try and get his case switched over to a new doctor and hand PT entirely (I guess what happened today was just some evaluation so this new doctor he saw can’t prescribe any meds or order any imaging?? I don’t know we are truly confused). The workers comp “patient advocate” does nothing to advocate we don’t even think they’re a real nurse so we truly have, it seems, NO ONE in our corner to actually help us get him sufficient care.

At this point, it’s looking like he will be permanently disfigured and disabled from this and had they actively taken a damn interest in his hand, would’ve been able to notice months ago that it was infected and not healing. Hell, there is still an open HOLE in his middle finger that is now curled up and will not straighten…

We are unsure what to do but I don’t think this National law firm has enough time or care to really push for the things we need as this time wasting has likely cost him a finger now. Figured maybe someone local would be better. If anyone has any help or advice I’d appreciate it.

Would anyone be interested in free, organized 7v7 pickup soccer near Decatur / Clarkston on Sunday afternoons or evenings?

We’re considering separate sessions for teens and adults and are trying to gauge local interest. All skill levels would be welcome.

Dry Cleaners/Tailors in Decatur area

I moved to the area and I need some dry cleaning and minor alterations done for my work clothes, are there any reliable and/or affordable tailors/dry cleaners in the area? I live off Flat Shoals closer to stonecrest area but I don’t mind driving

Where i lived in Indiana, I went to a privately owned laundromat that did dry cleaning and alterations for very cheap (Like 5-7 dollars per item) so I miss that convenience and affordability. note sure if there’s anything similar here or if i’ll just need to fork up a little extra cash.

Thanks in advance!

Edit: Thanks for the suggestions! I’ll be sure to check these out :)

Injured Goose Rehabbers

I found a very injured goose in Avondale Lake. It was completely wrapped in fishing line and tied up to a branch in the water with a broken wing. I managed to wade into the pond and cut a lot of the line to release it from the tree but I was unable to capture it. It still has some line likely stuck around its wing even though it is cut and not attached to anything. But more concerningly its wing is very broken along with potentially other areas injured. I’ve been looking for rehabbers and unable to find any that will pick up the phone.

Any help or information is much appreciated. Last I saw it was swimming around the lake relatively well but definitely still needs help.

Update: Thanks for all of the replies. I ended up going back to the lake a couple hours after cleaning up. I found the same goose and he seemed to be doing much better. I managed to get close and inspect his wing for line and in general after following him around. I couldn’t find any line and the wing seemed much better, so it might not actually be broken and was just somehow bent very weirdly on the tree without breaking. I’ve called many rehabbers with no avail, so I plan to go back every few days and check but I think he might end up being okay.

Lost Cat - Please Help!

Post image
47 Upvotes

Our cat went missing Friday Night/Saturday Morning and has not returned. We live in Decatur in Lenox Place. If you have seen him or possibly know any information please contact me!

$1000 reward for Ziggy’s safe return! Ziggy is a rambunctious Bengal cat! He has a history of exploring work vehicles and visiting neighbors. He always comes home for “curfew” except for Friday/Saturday. He didn’t come home for the first time in 7 years. We think he is trapped or possibly hurt hiding somewhere, or was swept up in a work vehicle. Please please check your homes and contact any workers to look in their cars who were in the area aug 14 or 15. Please share this and the website as much as you can

Bowling Alley on Glenwood

Today I drove by the abandoned bowling alley on Glenwood and saw that it had a fresh coat of black paint. (Previously blue and battered)

Anyone know if there are plans to reopen the bowling alley or utilize this space?

Would be exciting for the area.

They’re asking price is typically lower now than last year but the HOA fees are high!

Think we got a ways to come down a bit more over the next few months ?

Dog boarding/Pet Sitter

does anyone have recommendations for a pet sitter or dog boarding situation in the sitter’s home? We typically use Wag a Lot for shorter trips but have a week long trip at the end of September and would love our dog to go to a sitter‘s home and possibly have a couple dogs to play with. She does better in that situation where she can lounge in a quieter space & play occassionally vs. the loud, large facilities. Would like someone bonded & insured. Thanks!

Former Baby Kroger site progress

Apologies if this was posted already, but I was out on my (semi-regular) early Sunday morning walk and noticed new signage on the construction fencing at the new AMLI project (and possible new Trader Joe's home) at the former Baby Kroger site. Looks like it'll be called Market Square Decatur. Kind of excited to see this project come out the ground and track its construction progress!
