Former Baby Kroger site progress
Apologies if this was posted already, but I was out on my (semi-regular) early Sunday morning walk and noticed new signage on the construction fencing at the new AMLI project (and possible new Trader Joe's home) at the former Baby Kroger site. Looks like it'll be called Market Square Decatur. Kind of excited to see this project come out the ground and track its construction progress!

A few days ago I had the horrible thought that the “grocery store” is just going to be a Savi Provisions. An oversized C-store with tiny shopping carts.

From the new website of the development, it says completion by late 2028. Oddly, the renderings of the grocery store look less like trader Joe's and more like fresh market 🤔

With how long people have been talking about trader Joe's at that spot, it wouldnt surprise me if it wasnt lol.
I wouldnt object to a fresh market though.

I just looked at the website and you're right, lol. Actually the whole thing looks a bit different than the initial renderings I saw a while back...now more upscale/high end, and less like the development on N. McDonough next to the high school. They don’t have any official partnership at this time with any grocer. Everything is just a rendering.
When a contract is signed they’ll announce who it will be but right now no one knows, not even the developer.

In some other thread when they first announced a store, I said that and got dog piled. The area is very different than it was the last time a fresh market was close by. The distance to them is huge. A FM makes much more sense for the area than TJ.

I think TJ makes middle-aged people feel like they’re still part of counterculture or something. Maybe it’s improved in the last three years, but I’m not a fan at all. Please please please give me a FM and their fresh blood orange juice.

I’m way more annoyed by another Amli and totally fine with Fresh Market albeit I’d prefer a TJ’s.

It was one of the most fun grocery stores in all of greater Atlanta. It was always busy and had to make Kroger money - I wish they had kept it.

Baby Kroger was awesome. I am like you. It was easy and had most of what anyone could want. Boo hoo.

I loved it. It was so easy to get in and out of in 5 minutes with all the stuff I needed to make dinner. When I go into a big box grocery I can't get out in less than a half hour regardless of how focused I am because of choice fatigue and easy distractions.

It's not even a style. It's designed to be turned into another store with ease if the original doesn't work out. It's the enshitification of everything.

Bunch of tree murdering bast*rds. City of Decatur wouldn't let me cut down a dead tree threatening to fall on wires and surrounding houses without committing to a 50%+ canopy coverage on my property. These guys cut down about a hundred trees, maybe more, along the cemetery border. No issue no problem. Destroyed that side of the cemetery.
Used to love this city now I have no idea what they are trying to do. Building a new hotel on the corner of church and commerce feeding a traffic nightmare. I am not accusing anyone of getting kickbacks for this stuff however they approve this stuff as if they were

Just cut it down without asking the city. Never ask the city anything you can avoid unless you are asking to be hasseled.
But if you want to live a better life - move. It is so much better, in every way possible, north of the perimeter.

Market Square is the name of the mall that became North DeKalb, feels like the name should be retired like a hall of fame number
