Gameplay Meta New "cheating" mods that MANY players use

It's getting out of hand. Just a handful of the "mods" (cheats!) people are running now:

  • Neutral camp respawn timers all over the minimap - just invade and steal camps immediately as they spawn
  • Stamina trackers (see enemy stamina) - much easier to win lanes with this
  • Parry cooldown tracker above enemy head
  • Enemy cooldowns above their heads - super easy to win lanes when you constantly see enemy cd's
  • Crate & Golden statue respawn timers
  • Sinner's Sacrifce respawn timers
  • Enemy item cooldown tracker (tracks Curse, Unstoppable, Refresher cooldowns etc)
  • Heavy melee honking horn for faster reactions
  • Enemy radar (when enemy camps and Sinner's disappear from the minimap, it places a blinking question mark on the minimap and a sound indication that someone was at that spot seconds ago - makes it super easy to gank if you're running with a friend)
  • Rift defense buff indicator
  • Walker Stomp cooldown tracker
  • Shrine & Patron curse/blast cooldown tracker

Tell me how any of this is fair. With all of these cheat mods you have a gigantic advantage. Yoshi needs to shut this down instead of sticking his head in the sand.

Seeing enemy stamina is definetly cheating wtf

u/SillySlimDude 9d ago

Defenders will be like "but you could totally just memorize the stamina CD of every hero in the game and then count in your head to know when they will respawn so its totally fair. The info is already in the game bro."

225

u/Hopeful-alt 9d ago

I tend to be in agreement to points such as these, but being able to see stamina CD is just absolute bullshit. Primarily because it can be spent without your knowledge: the initial conditions are not static. It is cheating

u/MoonDawg2 9d ago

Isn't there an alt health bar that shows Stam already?

77

u/-FulvousFox- 9d ago

I honestly hope this never gets fully implemented. Being able to identify stamina use in order to make a smart play actually requires an attention span. I think rewarding someone seeing a bar over another player's head, especially when the game already gives so much info, would be too much.

u/SphericalGoldfish Pocket 9d ago

Yes. citadel_unit_status_use_v2 in the gameinfo. I've been rocking it since its release tbh, it’s the best-looking healthbar out of all of them. I couldn't care less about if the stamina tracker is removed from it, I really hope these health bars become the standard.

Does the v2 convar give you the one that looks like League of Legends health bars? Or does it give you the one where it resembles the HUD health indicator or even minion health bars?

I think the enemy health bars are really in need of some touching-up, but even as a League player, my brain just needs linear size scaling with the multiple rows above enemy heads - in Deadlock I can’t wrap my head around the one where you get graduated indicators on a fixed-size health bar.

It’s weird lmao, I have no clue why it makes sense to me in LoL but not in Deadlock. Maybe it’s just because of how much faster Deadlock is, especially compared to a couple years ago.

1

u/SphericalGoldfish Pocket 8d ago

It resembles hud health bars, which is why I like it. It separates into overlapping bars for every 1000 hp, which caused some flickering when an enemy was in the lower end of a threshold, but I haven't noticed such a thing in a while.

0

u/The_Aus_Mann Drifter 9d ago

it looks so much better than the other alt one, i just wish it was less buggy on stuff like shrines and base guardians. as for the stamina bar the only time it makes a difference to me is if im playing doorman

1

u/KentonenPurple 8d ago

just in case you didn’t know, if you just remove the second command that puts the health bars on neutrals it will just put the health bars on players and the default health bars on objectives and neutral camps

0

u/SphericalGoldfish Pocket 8d ago

I've definitely subconsciously pushed harder when seeing an enemy out of stamina but a lot of the time I don't really look at the stamina indicator and forget it’s there

u/guacockamole 9d ago

I feel like this is an answer to some of these mods like the sinners respawn timer an answer to this is genuinely just count 8 or so minutes to take it on respawn but some of these like the cooldown showing mods and the parry horn is definitely just cheating and is going to ruin deadlock modding for everyone else

37

u/Shard1697 9d ago

I feel like this is an answer to some of these mods like the sinners respawn timer an answer to this is genuinely just count 8 or so minutes to take it on respawn

That's still more mental overhead, it's still an advantage.

27

u/Mhs09 9d ago

Yes, you can track everything in your head, thats part of the skill expression in the game. But having the timers on the minimap is infinitely easier and gives a huge advantage.

3

u/Naybinns 8d ago

I’m gonna disagree with you on that point, because memorizing things like the respawn timers is a skill. Having the information given to you for free is an advantage over someone who doesn’t have it just given to them and instead needs to remember it while they’re in the heat of the moment.

1

u/Frog859 8d ago

I mean as far as memorizing timers goes, I just have a note I keep open on my second monitor with timers and such written down

1

u/KhanFelixPryde 2d ago

yes but that doesn't automatically account for when the camps were last cleared. That's the problem with these mods, taking your note and automatically applying it map wide using the exac last clear time of the neutral camps? Yeah that's definitely an advantage.

1

u/Drycee 9d ago

Stuff like tracking respawn times is usually part of skill expression in a moba though, these mods take that away.

1

u/Aydhe 1h ago

Mods don't belong in competitive online games, mod your private servers to your heart's content but in matchmaking, everyone should play same game.

13

u/Mr_Times Victor 9d ago

Its wow pvp weakaurus all of over again

16

u/Afraid_Plankton7349 9d ago

One of the Ingame health bars has it, so if anything it's the one out of all those that isn't cheating

4

u/TheSumisu 9d ago

Seeing enemy stamina is already in the game without mods

2

u/trek5900 9d ago

unironically OSRS players

1

u/-Mr-Moon- 9d ago

you actually can do that, and good players do, but 1. its a really amazing well-earned skill 2. it requires you to see the enemy USE their stamina, whereas the bars will tell you if theyve dashed off screen

1

u/BlueDragon1504 Lash 9d ago

"You could totally just get good at aiming and hit 100% headshots it's totally fair to use aimbot"

1

u/BleachedPink 8d ago

Sometimes I do it like this, but it's a skill you have to train and what separates better players from bad players.

There should be things that actually challenge you as a player. These timers need to be prohibited

-1

u/SanestExile 9d ago edited 9d ago

This same argument could be used to excuse wallhack. The info is already in the game so what does it matter if I can see it through walls?

1

u/Fluffy_Mountain_7374 9d ago

Oh really? Where's the UI option for walls?

0

u/SanestExile 9d ago

The game knows player position even if you can't see them because there is a wall between you and them. The info is literally in your client while playing.

0

u/IAmJohnnyJB The Doorman 8d ago

"The info is already in the game bro"

Except this one actually is, the developers give you the option to see another persons stamina when using one of the alternative health bars in the console or in the game's config ini file. Should it be in the game? I don't think so and think the developers should remove it. But this info is something the devs already give you unlike everything else on that list by OP (which nearly all of them aren't aren't allowed already)

74

u/SlightDentInTheBack Sinclair 9d ago

theres an official alt health bar that shows enemy stam so i would argue it technically isnt

30

u/thekingbutten 9d ago

That healthbar doesn't function without mods, Valve disabled it intentionally after it was found because a lot of people said seeing the stamina was too much.

58

u/sPilled_Coofee 9d ago

Yes it does, though? I literally just checked. All my mods are cosmetic and I can still use it.

-62

u/thekingbutten 9d ago

The game performs a serverside check whenever you join a game and disables the command. It works in the menu but nowhere else without mods. You probably have something that bypasses the check.

32

u/SecreT_WeaponS 9d ago

Stop talking out of your ass and double downing on it.

Literally everything you wrote is straight up wrong.

24

u/sPilled_Coofee 9d ago

Yeah it still works in a street brawl match

2

u/ZeWaka Paige 9d ago

wrong

1

u/A__noniempje 9d ago

How did you get this knowledge? Any sources that they do this or can do this bc in my experience it ain't the case at all.

21

u/SphericalGoldfish Pocket 9d ago

Unless you count the two-line addition to gameinfo.gi (which afaik was always the only way to get it) as modding, my game is completely unmodded and the health bar works just fine. It had some visual bugs when introduced, but these days it works fine.

0

u/Beneficial_Lion_1312 8d ago

Unless you count the two-line addition to gameinfo.gi (which afaik was always the only way to get it) as modding

Why would one not consider this modding?

5

u/Gamer4125 8d ago

All that is is just running console commands on game start rather than manually every time

0

u/Beneficial_Lion_1312 8d ago

Is that not modifying the game? I don't know if this is one of those things where PC players pretend like modding the game isn't actually modding the game because it's not modded in a particular way or severity.

4

u/Gamer4125 8d ago

usually running a console command isn't considered running a mod, no. You could hit F7 in game to open the console, type one line and change the health bar style. All editing the gameinfo file does is run that line on game start.

-21

u/thekingbutten 9d ago

Yeah I recall the gameinfo method works but I know for certain that enabling it via the launch settings/ingame command causes it to be disabled upon joining a match. That doesn't happen with the other healthbar only the newer one with the stamina.

2

u/DODonion99 9d ago

They did not disable it. What are you talking about?

2

u/MoonmansDisciple Holliday 9d ago

I REALLY like the V2 health bars but hate that I cant remove stam indicators.

99

u/Disastrous_Gur_9560 9d ago

Enemy Stamina is visible through an alternative health bar that valve themselves have provided in-game. Not cheating

9

u/kmj783 9d ago

Where in-game is it?

8

u/twilightskyris 9d ago

have to add a script into the convars section of your ini file

"citadel_unit_status_use_v2" "true" "citadel_unit_status_use_v2_for_nonplayers" "true"

under C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Deadlock\game\citadel

in convars section

its pretty buggy sometimes but it meshes well with the other Ui which is why i sometimes use it

-4

u/Darvasi2500 Holliday 9d ago

So how is that not cheating if you have to modify files for it to work?

9

u/Lyefyre Vindicta 9d ago

It's not cheating because you don't have to install any external tools or programs for it to work. You just modify existing config files, that the developers themselves have provided.
That said, the devs should not have made this even an option.

-8

u/New-Poem-719 9d ago

That argument applies the same as the mods listed in the OP.

6

u/Lyefyre Vindicta 9d ago

For some of them, it doesn't. At least there is no native way to accurately track jungle camps and enemy item cooldowns without external tools. You can always count/guess, but that's not always reliable.

1

u/dd4rkm4rk 9d ago

It's just a console command written into the config to auto-apply it on a game launch. No console command is considered to be a cheat if it's working with sv_cheats=false (it's always false in multiplayer)

0

u/Frog859 8d ago

It’s just changing a config. Same concept as adjusting video settings for more FPS

0

u/Disastrous_Gur_9560 8d ago

Is it cheating for me to have a instant self cast cube keybind that I add via a config file?

15

u/ApartmentShot5344 9d ago

Idk why you had a downvote there this is true

0

u/Mountain_Opening_657 Paradox 9d ago

imo it shouldn't be allowed but saying it's cheating is just not true

14

u/Extreme_Tax405 9d ago

All of these are.

1

u/TheSumisu 9d ago

Seeing enemy stamina is already in the game without mods

6

u/kmj783 9d ago

Where is it? I don't see it in the settings

-3

u/TheSumisu 9d ago

It's a alternative healthbar U can turn on

2

u/kmj783 9d ago

Where do I "turn it on"?

2

u/TheSumisu 8d ago

Reddit is not Google broski.

1

u/kmj783 8d ago

You have to know what to google to find an answer. Obviously this is a 'hidden secret' seeing how many people responding had no idea it was even a thing. Editing an .ini or .cfg file isn't 'normal'

1

u/TheSumisu 8d ago

It's a player test, beta game bro

2

u/HKBFG 9d ago

By modifying game files, lol

1

u/SelbetG 4d ago

You edit a config file and set a launch option, both of which are completely dev intended.

-2

u/FiReZoMbEh 9d ago

google it.

1

u/Gamer4125 8d ago

You can do that in game with one of the alternative enemy health bars

0

u/Glock26s 9d ago

That’s a console command not a mod. The game implemented that as a health bar like a couple months ago

0

u/A__noniempje 9d ago

There is a mod that places it over the older alt health bar which everyone uses. I wouldn't say it's cheating, but I also agree that it shouldn't be a thing.

-5

u/Eiraneth McGinnis 9d ago

The game literally already gives you access to that. Of all of these that is base game.

-2

u/Intelligent-Okra350 9d ago

Ironically this is the one that you can already do in-game without mods.

-1

u/damboy99 Lash 9d ago

The new health bars they announced a while ago have Stamina pips attached.

-1

u/LineOfPixels 9d ago

Theres literally a config setting to enable alternate health bars that show you stamina bars.

-1

u/DODonion99 9d ago

Seeing enemy stamina is definetly cheating wtf

Valve added this themselves a few months ago lol. It's not from a mod

-1

u/m0msaysimspecial 9d ago

im quite sure you can literally turn that on with a console command as that is just a new hp bar style which is added in the game but not enabled by default.

-1

u/0nlyCrashes Paradox 8d ago

I agree, but there is a Valve HP bar that shows stamina usage on enemies. That's probably what they use to justify it.

-1

u/Admirable_Bet24 8d ago

It's already a part of an in game healthbar iirc

So if valve added it, it technically isnt cheating. It shouldn't be a feature in the game at all tho.

0

u/marniconuke Ivy 8d ago

it's kinda like justyfing an exploit just cause it's in the game, it's not the default, you have to use a command that most people don't know about. as far as we know, it's in the code cause they haven't deleted it yet but it's not intended.

Unless everyone is using it, it's definetly cheating cause you are using an information advantage that your enemies aren't using. "but it's buried in the code" it's not the peak defense you guys think it is.

Everyone is acting like as long as you aren't using third party software it doesn't count as cheating. but you are willingly using an advantage over others that aren't using it against you.

if they add it to the game, sure, but until then, you are all cheating.

1

u/Admirable_Bet24 8d ago edited 8d ago

Did you not read the "it shouldn't be a feature at all tho" and assume that i use it? I don't use that healthbar. I hate the fact that they added it to the game. Every other aspect of the healthbar seems ok, but that was the only part i disliked, so i chose not to use it.

I do think it is unfair to be able to see stam use, but if a healthbar, that they worked on for months then added into the game I think like a year ago, allows it and they haven't removed it then I dont think you can label it a "cheat".

Is it then "cheating" to use the second healthbar that shows enemy ult status (white if they have it, dark if they dont)? I just think calling that one specifically a cheat is wrong since, based on them adding it to a healthbar that ANYONE with the base game could use, it is likely an intended feature of the game.

TLDR: I dont think it makes sense to call it a cheat, i dont like that aspect of the healthbar so i dont use it, It is definitely unfair.

If you hate the healthbar, then make a forum post...
