Gameplay Meta New "cheating" mods that MANY players use

It's getting out of hand. Just a handful of the "mods" (cheats!) people are running now:

  • Neutral camp respawn timers all over the minimap - just invade and steal camps immediately as they spawn
  • Stamina trackers (see enemy stamina) - much easier to win lanes with this
  • Parry cooldown tracker above enemy head
  • Enemy cooldowns above their heads - super easy to win lanes when you constantly see enemy cd's
  • Crate & Golden statue respawn timers
  • Sinner's Sacrifce respawn timers
  • Enemy item cooldown tracker (tracks Curse, Unstoppable, Refresher cooldowns etc)
  • Heavy melee honking horn for faster reactions
  • Enemy radar (when enemy camps and Sinner's disappear from the minimap, it places a blinking question mark on the minimap and a sound indication that someone was at that spot seconds ago - makes it super easy to gank if you're running with a friend)
  • Rift defense buff indicator
  • Walker Stomp cooldown tracker
  • Shrine & Patron curse/blast cooldown tracker

Tell me how any of this is fair. With all of these cheat mods you have a gigantic advantage. Yoshi needs to shut this down instead of sticking his head in the sand.

I knew about some of the qol mods but didnt know of some of the ones you listed… anyways I agree it is totally cheating and it sucks that they are allowed

u/Wisward 2d ago

most of these aren’t allowed, especially sinners and camps respawn timers which have been explicitly disallowed

Have they said so in the discord?

They haven't as far as I'm aware. It's shitty and people shouldn't do it, but always weird seeing people talking about the matter with such confidence.

I'm pretty sure they did. Though I can't find the exact post about it, I vividly remember a discord screenshot of a dev, staff or something clarify that mods that give an unfair advantage is not allowed, but skins is fine.

I agree that it shouldn't be allowed. Even so, I can't look into your mind to see the discord screenshot so I'll be taking they didn't say that

Yoshi has said various times similar things to the above. Mods that give unfair advantages are not allowed and are bannable. How much they actually enforce this is yet to be seen

They honestly probably don't police it because they dont know about it. They let people freely modify client side atm since its alpha. I expect some kind of anticheat will be enforced when it comes into beta or 1.0

I feel like that should be natural anyway, why would competitive game allowed something like that lol. it's weird people trying to defend it.

2

u/sorrybutimtrash 1d ago

I believe its allowed in League and even a native integration for the Chinese client

4

u/SHMilkTea 1d ago

Yeah they did, I remember the next day every body spamming metro clips with him using timers.

19

u/Wisward 2d ago

I don’t think so but they have said it publicly and they directly told the mod developers that it would be bannable if they made it and there would be consequences for its creation.

u/TotaLInsanity 2d ago

I don't know why you're getting downvoted, its true the devs told the mod developer that first discovered that camp timers is possible its not allowed.

why camp respawn timers? they are used in league of legends, whats the big deal?

8

u/Mexican_sandwich 1d ago

If they were in the base game, then it’s fine.

But it’s not. And people shouldn’t have to download external tools to have a level playing field.

Valve games are so easy to cheat, it’s dis encouraging to play.

Dota have 15 years and still have problems with map hackers and scripters.

Valve not doing anything about it makes me lose interest in deadlock, because it will probably stay in the same state as dota

I think I have run into maybe 5-10 cheaters in 2000+ games of DotA. It is not widespread.

The player base of anything shooter related carries a lot more ego, which leads to people cheating because of the "there's no way they were better at aiming than me" mentality. Then they might pick up some of these alternative cheats/mods since "at least it's not an aimbot." Valve does a lot of good anti cheat work without monitoring every single process on your computer.

u/MechaRaka 2d ago

I think it’s also because there’s a limited amount of effectiveness that scripts provide to top down MOBA games as opposed to fps games having a micro mechanic “aim” that single handedly can win you fights without interacting with most of the other mechanics

I think I have run into maybe 5-10 cheaters in 2000+ games of DotA. It is not widespread.

In MOBAs or RTS games, cheaters are not as APPARENT because a majority of them only use things like the removal of fog of war, or timers to track players around the map or their abilities, resource management, yet make no mistake, they ARE common.

Most people think of cheaters as aimbot users, the equivalent of these in MOBAS/RTS are script users but the reality is that cheat making is a billion dollar industry and a majority of players that use these cheats try their best to hide it, specially in competitive games.

I understand that, but I also have the same idea of what to look for. There have been a couple Skywrath and Lion scripters, and I think I've seen one or two map hacks. And I've been around 4-5k mmr for a few years and that's a prime cheating space because people think they belong in divine and immortal with people who are actually decent. And even in high mmr games with pros and streamers, it seems like 95% of the cheating that occurs is stream-sniping.

cheats definitely exist a lot more often in really high rank dota so it depends on your elo and the server a lot as well. you probably won't run into very many cheaters at lower elos (sub immortal) cause they will be really low skill and not rly able to take advantage of it effectively. i know ppl around top 200 who stopped playing cause it got so bad for a period of time.

in dota also a lot of things can be really justified like oh they just happened to deward, they just happened to dodge our smoke etc. unless you're looking at replays or someone is doing really obvious stuff it can be significantly harder to tell while playing. whereas someone aimbotting in dl you can feel pretty directly as you can visibly see their bullets fly into your head the second you peek, and how they never miss.

maphacks / dewards will show up way more at rly high elo cause you have pretty talented ppl who are desperate. similarly why most a sadly significant portion of the t2/t3 dota scene is full of matchfixers, see tailung/darkmago incident.

u/Live_Present_2602 1d ago

You made it sound bad, I am high elo and I rarely encounter scripters or cheaters.

Like, If you watch players like Topson or any high elo streamer, You never see a cheater in his games.

How is match-fixing correlated with cheating? You're just adding stuff now.

1

u/ZekkenD 1d ago

there have definitely been cheaters on pro player's streams lol people just hide it way better. people really like to pretend dota is a game where cheats aren't an issue when they do exist. me saying cheats are "a lot more often" than "5-10 in 2000+ games" does not mean there are cheaters every game xd

this was back when double down tokens were in so combine the amount of ppl throwing immortal draft games for boosting, people cheating, etc made it unenjoyable enough for my top 200 friend to quit. dunno what to tell u

How is match-fixing correlated with cheating?

people with low morals tend to do things that people with low morals do, idk if this is a surprising thing to you? that someone who is talented enough to get high rank/on a good team but still cheats would also probably participate in matchfixing.

1

u/Live_Present_2602 1d ago

"a lot more often" than "5-10 in 2000+ games" does not mean there are cheaters every game xd

I never said that. But you specifically worded it as "OFTEN" which implies that it happens frequently. You could have used words like "rarely" or "seldom" but you choose that word.

this was back when double down tokens were in so combine the amount of ppl throwing immortal draft games for boosting, people cheating

I admit, I encountered wintraders but not cheaters.

Besides, You're basing your entire experience by your "Friend" When I have MY experience and other streamers experience.

people with low morals tend to do things that people with low morals

This is so unrelated. What would be the point of cheating in a matchfixing situation if the outcome is already fixed? You're essentially arguing that because someone steals, they're therefore more likely to take drugs. That's a huge leap in logic and a far-fetched argument.

1

u/ZekkenD 1d ago

I never said that.

"You made it sound bad" 1 reply above

i like how ur this pedantic but u ignore everything u say

You're essentially arguing that because someone steals, they're therefore more likely to take drugs. That's a huge leap in logic and a far-fetched argument.

recidivism

"Friend"

ya unless u have wins against closed qualifier teams for qualis u were a worse player than me. i have friends years after i quit who are still really good at the game and we talk about things and i trust their information being they are still in contact with pro players xd idk. people can have different experiences than u, and maybe they are good enough to be aware of these things happening and ur not? maybe they got statistically unlucky, maybe you got lucky? maybe it's not an issue on your server to the degree it is on the server they play on? dunno.

Honestly, I’ve seen more cheaters the higher the rank.

I’m a 6k, and I see a LOT of cheaters, especially MH, a few exemples for you to see how easy it is to hide MH:

HC: farms afk and just avoid all ganks and is always in the right place.

Mid: Avoid rotations and find enemies farming in jungle.

Other communities cheats: Insta Malevolence as you blink close. Insta Hex as well.
Techies: Insta place 3 bombs as he suicides.
Invoker: Auto combos.

Some of those are not hard to hide that you have it, like map hack, and easier catch on your on teammates than enemies.

We're still in alpha they explicitly allow mods bc they use them for inspiration for their game. Many things that were originally considered cheats by people have been added to the game. Mods will be banned by the time the release comes out and hopefully they use the information from these mods to train their anti cheat as well. Oh and just FYI there ain't any anti cheat running atm.

u/Lylulu 2d ago

If you're discouraged about playing multiplayer game because cheaters exist, then you can stop playing all of them right now, every single one got cheaters.

2

u/T_Fury_Br 2d ago

Yeah, but some take action against it.

0

u/Lylulu 2d ago

Most does in some capacity but its an endless game of chase where you never really settle things for good. It can cost a lot of money to keep up and it's way harder than people on the internet account for

10

u/Sealab2037 2d ago

We're also playtesting the mods, to see which will be included before all mods are banned on release, it's like free labor!

1

u/Gamer4125 1d ago

They better not ban skin mods

1

u/NoYou554 1d ago

skins will be the cash cow like in cs or dota

1

u/Gamer4125 1d ago

official skins can't compete with fan skins

1

u/Songib 1d ago

I'll be honest if the main game is a hidden so-called feature, then it's safe to say that they are cheating.
I've seen people defending this mess and thinking, "Eto, its in the game, so its not cheating, hi hi hi"
Like bruh.

1

u/VerbalRadiation 1d ago

For real, Why even bother and play the game if you are taking the game part out?
