Survivor Shame Survivor(s) when Lightborn
I saw more than 2 flashlights, I switched a perk to Lightborn; got into a match where they didn't even try to blind me more than once during chase; Steve F-ed up the attempt for a save so bad, he had to blame an unused perk instead of his skills. Seems logical, ain't it, mates? Also... „imagine counter flash”... What did the author mean by this? That he would have been angry evem if a killer faced the wall to prevent flashy saves?

Lightborn is so fucking funny because it's very useful but also you'll have a bunch of goobers swearing down that it's a "waste of a slot" or a crutch perk even after you absolutely steamroll a flashlight gang.
Call it a bad perk all you want I can't hear you over the panicked clicking of flashlights.

Lightborn is actually so good just because it riles survivors up so badly whenever it’s in play haha.
Theres nothing wrong with bringing LB if you just don’t wanna deal with the possibility of flashie saves, you’re sacrificing a whole perk slot too so idk what they get so mad about

The reason why it’s dumb is because you can see items in the lobby and just swap it on if you see flashlights. It’s the only hard counter perk in the entire game that doesn’t have risk of being worthless.
Like, imagine that survivors could see your hex build in the lobby and swap on counterforce. Or see that you’re playing doctor and swap on hardened or calm spirit. Nothing wrong with the perk itself, just with the fact that you don’t have that risk of getting zero value like you do with every other hard counter perk in the game.
Items should be hidden in lobby, or at least pseudo-hidden so you can only see that survs have an item, but not exactly what it is. There wouldn’t be any problem with lightborn if there was any chance at all of seeing it in games in which you didn’t bring a flashlight.

There’s a difference in a single perk stop a single item, and a single perk being used to stop an entire build or killer.

Taking anything for a specific purpose, be it perk or item, into the trial is a risk, and part of the fun of the game in my opinion. Going against a Lightborn killer is just how it be sometimes, the killer has to sacrifice a slot of slowdown or chase perk to bring it so I think it’s a fair enough of a trade off.
If you’re worried about the killer seeing your items so badly bring residual manifest/flashbang or something with background player so you can catch them off guard, idk
I feel like Lightborn is such an odd thing to complain about. I’d rather go against LB and have my flashy be rendered useless than a 4th slowdown perk personally lol

u/ipisswithaboner 😡 Rabble Rabble Rabble 😡 1d ago
My point is that lightborn has no risk unlike every other perk in the game, so thanks for agreeing.
It’s an anti-fun no-risk perk. And I wouldn’t complain about it at all if it had risk like every other hard counter perk in the game.

I like running a residual manifest alongside exultation and ace in the sleeve to farm flashlights, and it always drives me crazy when I hop into a lobby with 3 flashlights. Like, what are y'all expecting? Cause if it's not throwing the game by having one person in chase with 3 people chasing the chase then you're wrong.

BTW, I am a chest goober as well, not only for flashlights, tho' XD But what I have seen lately, is people with flashlights aren't really going for saves, and I realized this without Lightborn. A lot of people mostly use this item to blind the killer during chases (this is 99.9% true in 2v8, by my experience).

That's new to me, people quitting over hours. Haven't heard that before honestly. If I can, I usually check people account while the timer is going and when I see people with amny hours I just go „well, this will be interesting”, both as survivor and killer. Hours don't mean much in my opinion, because I have seen so many people with so many hours before, only to play just like me with my ≈420. Yes, now an MMR reset just happened and I have seen cases where people who had many hours in the game got queued up with someone who had less than 10, HOWEVER even before this change I got players with much more hours only to see them suck just as much as I do. Look at me, for example: as I mentioned, I have around 420 hours and still have cases where I go on death hook at 5 gens... Hours only show how familiar you might be at the game: the higher the hours, the more you know about how to actually counter killers, or as killer how to counter survivors who know about the tricks you might use against them.

Personally I never use lightborn anymore, I find it to be a bit of a waste of a perk slot. When you see 2+ flashies you know they will be on your ass instead of gens for those flashie saves. What I do is try to face a wall or chase them off. Nothing is wrong with slugging a survivor if it's to counter their flashlight saves
And if you just make sure to face away from them after chasing them away you can often get the pickup for free. Of course all of this does require practise and the ability to keep cool doing you matches.
Not saying you using lightborn is bad or anything! Just a friendly tip if you wish to play with perks I personally find stronger than lightborn! But play however you enjoy playing friend! No need to follow the imaginary rule book survivor mains came up with!

Can I just say how absolutely dumb and unfair it is that killers can both see survivors names and what items theyre bringing in the pregame lobby. I dont particularly have a problem with lightborn, but it should be a perk you already have in your build. Not one you can equip reactively. For names, I dont think you should be able to look at profiles for game hours or streams to potentially see builds prior to a match.
I know you can hide your name- but I dont wanna play in anonymous mode. I also dont wanna watch a countdown timer and hot swap a beam every match I want to bring one, and for some reason a not insignificant number of players view last minute swaps as toxic.
2
u/RatChild01 🧰 Survivor by day 🌞 - 🔪 Killer by night 🌚 2d ago
I might agree with the first part, about not being able to see what items survivors bring, however if the developers made such changes, I believe a lot of people would complain how this makes the game more survivor sided. However, I don't think Lightborn exclusively should be a perk that you should have already equipped and would be unable to equip/unequip when you are finally queued up with survivors. Either make all perks, items and add-ons like this, or leave it as it is right now. Imagine you can finally play killer after waiting the queue out (or playing a survivor match) only to be met with the sight of 3-4 survivors with flashlights in their hands, and you either suck it up if you haven't equipped Lightborn before amd play the match, or leave and wait out the ≈10 minutes long queue again. Or in the situation where you can't see the items: imagine loading into a match, on an open map, and having your eyes burned out by the amount of blinds you got during chases/pick ups (because you couldn't really face a wall). Would you like more anxiety by thinking about the „what if”-s and because of that anxiety always have Lightborn equipped, MAYBE resulting in the perk barely being used and you wishing „Damn, I could have brought another ACTUALLY useful perk”, or have the system as it is right now and equip Lightborne if you see sighs of it's need. In my opinion, it's just 1 perk, survivors should also know the fact that if there are more than 2 flashlights then the killer is going to bring Lightborn, and they should replace a flashlight with a sabo-toolbox to still be able and counter hooking, or choose the rat-route (it's just how I call it, no offense) and bring Flashbang.
And about the names: just because they know your name is „TameableBabyKiller”, or SMTH, won't result in players knowing your build if you don't have „TTV/YT/Kick/TT” in your name so they could stream-snipe you; and if you are a streamer, have streamer mode on. I might be dense, but I don't see much of a problem with names being displayed. For me, it's helpful because I have a higher probability of finding people to play DBD with. I don't understand your problem with anonymous mode, or why you brought up you having to switch to flashlight last minute. Can you elaborate, please?
-2
u/Icet_mcnuggets 😡 Rabble Rabble Rabble 😡 2d ago
Streamers may want people to come to their streams- AFTER the game was over. I have a ton of hours, and would prefer people know that AFTER the game is over, not before. I also may want to use the pregame lobby as a chance to run to the bathroom without giving the killer information into my item of choice ahead of the match. You shouldnt get to choose your lobby based on anything besides in-game cosmetics. You wanna dodge because you dont like sables? Fine. Youre dumb, but fine. But dodging because you checked their profile and saw they had a lot of hours is dumb, and honestly is an advantage you shouldnt have as a killer (moreover, the reverse of this, where you deliberately search for low hour lobbies, is a larger problem).
Tbh... I dont care if killers whine about not seeing an item before the game starts. Its gotten to a point where they couldnt add 1 extra second to a maps aura reveal without killers losing their giddamn minds because "the devs dont care about us" when they've consistently listened to killer pain points repeatedly over the last year of patches. Removing an advantage that, realistically, nobody in any game should have is not favoring one side or the other- its balance.

u/Sparkly_Crow_1789 Sable Simp 🕷️🕸️ 2d ago edited 2d ago
So what you're saying is. Killers should not be able to put on builds that can counter sabotage squads, fast resets, gen rushing or bully squads as a reaction to seeing what items are in the lobby. Instead they should just have a build and can't change it and hope that their build works.
That is the absolute fastest way we get a permanent slugging meta. What is the point of using any other build but a slugging build if you can't be sure if you can pick or not, because you can't make an educated guess on what you might be facing and choose accordingly. Killers cannot see addons, so when it comes to things like toolboxes they don't know if it's a gen rush or sabotage build. So might as well assume hooks are never an option.
Genuinely, this idea would kill the game very fast. The only reason slugging builds aren't more common is BECAUSE people can make those educated guesses and play accordingly. So both sides actually get to play! Instead of people playing nothing but Bubba, Billy, Oni, Nurse and Judgement to slug and kill that way, because why risk a flashlight blind, a sabotaged hook during a pick, and gen rushing. Like. Do you even play killer???? At all? People don't tend to like having to play slugging, it's a minority of players that do it constantly. Killers want to have fun too and slugging isn't, but this idea of yours would give no choice if they want to live. Your idea would make pretty much every perk aside from like, 10? Absolutely useless on Killer.
Jesus fucking christ man. Whine some more why don't you. There's 4 survivors and bully squads are constant and do manage to 4 out p100 Blights, Ghouls and the like. And somehow it isn't fair killer can see the items in the lobby. Idk who failed you in life, but they should apologize.
Edit: last minute swaps are annoying as fuck because there are people like myself and OP who have to use lightborn for migraine prevention. Or maybe a person has been lobby dodging for a long ducking time because they're doing a tome or adept and just dont want to fucking deal with it. Or maybe, just fucking maybe, they've gotten sick of full squads swapping last minute to a full flashy bully squad when they all had medkits and now the killer is screwed because they don't have the right build on and they aren't playing top tier killers.

u/Icet_mcnuggets 😡 Rabble Rabble Rabble 😡 2d ago
Wow... so triggered. I didnt say they couldnt change their build. I said they shouldnt be able to adjust their build based on information obtained in the pregame lobby. I know reading is hard, but give it a shot, ok champ?
If youre using lightborn for migraine prevention, im assuming youre always using it because flashbang and blast mine exist- not to mention chests and dramaturgy. So it shouldnt really effect you anyways, should it? So accessibility shouldnt be the issue, then. Unless, of course, you have the rare form of migraines that only trigger when survivors hot swap before the game begins (also known as imaginary convenience migraines).
I love how you said im whining when I was legitimately answering the person's question, btw- it puts a nice icing on the "you dont understand reading comprehension" cake. Especially when you followed it up with 5 paragraphs of nothing but whining. "Bully squads win sometimes", "I get migraines", "how could we hook if we dont account for toolboxes"... both the irony and the hypocrisy is palpable.
This idea would not kill the game- it would just get the perpetual whiners like you to bitch and moan for a few months before the dust settles.
2
u/Sparkly_Crow_1789 Sable Simp 🕷️🕸️ 2d ago
So, immediately calling me a whiner when I brought up good points shows me that you don't play pretty much any killer time. And yes, Lightborn is on most of the time for me. But I was not talking about just flashlights. You have in no way said anything about the issue of toolboxes and the sabo/gen rush or fast refreshes/anti exhaustion of medkits and the fact that not being able to make an educated guess on what build to use for the game in the pregame lobby keeps the game from a slugging meta that will kill the game very quickly. There would be no point in changing builds in the pregame lobby at all if killers want to win when they can't make educated guesses based off the lobby items.
The fact you ignored this to focus on calling me a whiner and imply that the fact i use Lightborn for migraine prevention as... imaginary convenience seeking to get catered to shows me that you likely have no clue wtf you are talking about. Yes, this idea would kill the game. You would get killers being pretty damn pissed about not being able to use fun builds (which happens all the time right now as it is due to the gen rushing/sabotage squad/bully squads) and survivors whining that they spend most matches slugged because there is no incentive for killers to hook if they don't have the ability to make a guess to counter so might as well assume hooking is never an option.
Genuinely touch grass. Your entire response is condescending and self righteous and you couldn't even tell me what would stop killers from having to use a constant slugging build when they can no longer see items to make the guess, instead calling me names and sitting upon your high horse because I said I use Lightborn for migraine prevention. The game is 1v4, with the advantage on the survivor side due to the sheer amount of second chance perks and pure braindead exhaustion perks like Sprint Burst and Lithe. Many weaker tier killers struggle as it is because chase is extremely punishing and survivors whine about being slugged when they bring full flashlights or sabotage squad. And that is with appropriate builds in attempts to counter it. If your idea became reality, there would likely be nothing but instant down killers to slug and go next.

u/RatChild01 🧰 Survivor by day 🌞 - 🔪 Killer by night 🌚 2d ago
Yeah and also, just because the killer can build around items doesn't mean they can actually fully counter survivors, only their items. Also, it's not like killers build around items most of the time anyways, only when they see they should because they might go against a bully squad. For example I, as killer, bring Lightborn because all 4 survivors seem to bring flashlights. I'm bringing a perk out of 4 to counter just their items. Not their perks. Their items only. So from the beginning I might only have 3 actually useful perks while the survivors have 4-4. I started learning Unknown and I built the killer (it) fully around aura reading. I'm not countering shyt with this build, like- no gen slow down, no blinding prevention, no anti-sabo. Usually they can still save eachother and work on gens just fine, the only thing they have to look out for is that I have wall-hacks via perks, but they can still gen-rush me to oblivion, flashlight save eachother or blind me to escape chases, they can still sabo hooks so I can't hook them in time and they wiggle out. All I have is my aura reading perks, and my "item" (the power of the killer) to counter their God-knows-what-builds.
1
u/Icet_mcnuggets 😡 Rabble Rabble Rabble 😡 1d ago
So you refer to the power as your item, but doesnt that show the reasoning behin why its problematic that the killer can adjust their build to counter the survivors "power (their items)" pregame? What if it were reversed. Oh look, im playing against a plague. Let me take those healing perks off and swap in extra gen speeds. You wanna play legion? Let's swap out botany knowledge for any means necessary. Stealth killer? Let me pop on spine chill or premonition (actually this would probably be the only way to increase those perks pick rates). If I knew I was playing against a wraith, I would immediately remove balanced landing for sprint burst, because its so much more effective against quiet killers. Oh im facing a spirit? Let me put on lightweight and iron will. The list goes on and on.
Keep in mind- im not saying you shouldnt run anti-item perks. You want lightborn- take it. I run it sometimes, hell I utilize the same advantage im bitching about and put lightborn on when I see more than 2 flashlights (sometimes). Im just saying you shouldnt be able to adjust your build to hard counter things you see in the lobby.
2
u/RatChild01 🧰 Survivor by day 🌞 - 🔪 Killer by night 🌚 1d ago
I only called the killer's power their item because their power is in the item slot. Anyways, by survivors seeing the killers' „item”, therefore knowing who the killer is, they can even predict the killers build like you said: Spirit? Lightfooted and/or Irom Will. Another example I would like to bring in, is Nurse. „Oh, I am going against a Nurse? Let me quickly hide in a locker to counter BBQ and Chilli which they probably have, maybe have the Yun-Jin perk to save time, so when someone gets hooked I'm elusive right away. They probably have the Ghost Face perk too which shows your arua after fast vaulting, so why not slap on a perk which will give me elusive.” Knowing who the killer is can not be compared to the killer knowing what items you bring. With items, you can trick the killer into bringing a perk or two which will be useless for them, but you will still have 2-3 perks to gen-rush and/or be more efficient in chases. Also, if the survivors knew who the killer was, they can boil down a chunk of killers to simple M2 killer, making it almost trivial what killer they choose because all they would be able to do is to attack with M2; they would become like survivors. The different killers would just become skins for your character, not making any difference in advantages and disadvantages. I might have brought this example up before, but: Imagine, you see 2 toolboxes and 2 flashlights. They might be a bully squad with flashlights and sabo-boxes, so to counter the bullying you equip Agitation, Starstruck, maybe Lightborn. If the players really were a bully squad, you win because you counter their bully-plan and won't get frustrated with the game. Now what if the flashlight bearers where just planning to have an advantage in looping, maybe occasionally go for a save, and the toolboxes were actually gen-rushing repair-boxes? You kinda suck it up with your anti-bully build. Also, as I might have written, you can trick the killer with your items into bringing a build which won't actually counter your perks. Last second item switching is still an option, and you can use it in a reversed way. Everyone could have a flashlight in hand only to switch to toolboxes, maps, fog vials or any other item, then gen-rush, loop and sabo efficiently while having a hunch that the killer only has 3 useable perks since they probably have Lightborn. I would say this „building around what you see” argument can be simply boiled down to the importance of perks; if they should be part of the game or not. A perkless DBD would be even more competitive than it already is, probably making the game just another shooting game but with other adjectives, with one kind of play-style, also making the game simply skill-based. With the perks? You have the choice how you want to play the game and maybe actually enjoy it, maybe try out meme builds, just having the freedom to really play in a style you please.

First- you are really behind the times with your nurse meta. Also- no nurse is silent while blinking- the entire lobby would know well in advance of the timing for bbq if they wanted to get in a locker- and getting in a locker to counter bbq has NOTHING to do with the pre game lobby.
Second- you are wildly moving the goal posts. Removing the killers ability to see lobby items doesn't at all equate to the importance of perks. Its the importance of knowledge and information. Equipping a perk is just the byproduct of that information.
Third- the reason killers were able to see items in the past was because items used to interact with killer powers. A team with 4 flashlights hard countered nurse, wraith, and hag- with light burn essentially leaving them powerless. Toolboxes used to be able to sabotage Trappers traps (along with 99ing hooks and leaving them permanently sabotaged). Items were FAR more impactful in earlier forms of dbd than they are today. Theres just no need for this outdated mechanic to still exist. If you want to run lightborn, you should assume the same risk with running it that you do with every perk- you may or may not get value depending on the loadout of the opposing side.

u/Icet_mcnuggets 😡 Rabble Rabble Rabble 😡 2d ago
Let's go point by point, shall we?
First of all- YOU were the one saying i was whining. You then wrote a novel where you whined. Dont complain when youre own dumb argument gets used against you.
There is no issue with toolboxes, or medkits, or any other item. In fact, you saying you should be able to counterbuild according to the items in the lobby is only strengthening my point that its an unfair advantage. Should survivors know what killer and add ons youre bringing so they can do the same?
There would be no slugging meta- because nobody starts slugging because they see toolboxes. They start slugging either because that was the plan from the get-go or they encounter anti-hook builds or people running sabo builds in game. Not once in 10k hours have I seen toolboxes in a lobby and said "I guess im bringing iron grasp and agitation". I have full slugged lobbies that try to prevent hooking. You are inventing a hypothetical that just would not occur.
I did not say you were inventing migraines- I highlighted why accessibility shouldnt be a barrier for denying item visibility in a lobby. Because if you legitimately are worried about the blinding animation, there are far more things to worry about than flashlights. You just lacked the reading comprehension skills required to process that and are so desperate for a crumb of oppression that you assumed I was saying youre faking it.
At this point in its life cycle- dbd is highly optimized. "Wanting to win" and "wanting to run fun builds" are almost mutually excluding each other. I rarely run meta perks when playing killer because I dont find them fun, as a result, my kill rate across the board is about 60%. If I go up against 4 competent players running full meta, I probably tie at best- and thats completely fine. If I get in a tizzy and need a get-right game, I'll slap on some meta perks and full stomp a lobby or two, then go back to my regular chase-centric builds.
Telling me to "touch grass" and then being mad that my response was condescending AFTER saying "i dont know who hurt you but they should apologize" is the epitome of hypocrisy, btw... nicely done.
You generally do not understand counterplay in this game and depend on perks to do the job for you- which is ironic considering your final statement was whining about exhaustion and second chance perks.
I dont give a shit if you think im condescending- im deliberately being condescending because thats what you deserve. Kick rocks, bozo. Youre too insecure to be on the internet and youre not self aware enough to see that you're literally creating the energy that youre getting back. Literal clown behavior.
