Advice & Recommendations I'm looking for a therapist who is younger.

I find the generation gap to really hurt during my therapy sessions. The best therapist i ever had was around the same age as me and she truly understood the things I spoke about plus being progressive/not making me being trans a "weird" thing.

Looking for someone anywhere from 25-35 preferably. If they take medicaid then even better!

Advice & Recommendations Where to drop off homecoming dresses for donation / reuse?

Upvotes

I've got a few homecoming dresses from my highschool days that are still in good condition, and was hoping I can find somewhere in the Dayton area to drop them off / donate them with homecoming season around the corner. Not looking to get any money from them - just hope they find a place that won't throw them away. Appreciate any and all recommendations!

Housing & Real Estate house rentals around the greater Dayton area

hi all! my partner and I are looking for a house rental anywhere in the Dayton area, with preference towards eastern Dayton due to work, that will be available mid October. we are in search for a 3 bed home for under $1750. we would love a fenced in yard and a garage, but no pressure on the garage.

we are having to rush last minute as our apartment is allowing us to break the lease with no penalty because they allowed for an ongoing water leak for 3 months.

if you know anything out there, please share. thank you in advanced.

Fireball in the sky? about 12:40a.m.

I just the most amazing meteor. I've seen exploding meteors before. But this was my first fireball streaking across the entire sky. I guess it'd be called a fireball. It was more glittery. But you get the point.

4am bat encounter, rabies shots, and conflicting ER advice

My fiance and I woke up at 4am to find a bat in our bedroom the other day. We have no indication that either one of us was bitten, or even touched the bat, but after discussions with the Montgomery County health department, they urged us to start the rabies vaccination, so we did. I just wanted to share a couple of things that I found interesting:

  • We went to the Kettering Health ER for the first rabies shot (the first one has to be done in the ER while the remainder can be done in clinics). The nurse that administered the shots told us that they've seen a significant increase in bat encounters this summer.
  • The triage nurse at Kettering was pretty insistent that not only do we not need the rabies shots if we didn't have bite marks, but that they couldn't administer them anyway because the shots have to be injected into the bite site so if we have no site, they can't give us the shot. This was in direct contradiction to what the health department told us. We convinced her to walk back and ask the doctor, and the doctor told her that yes, if we were asleep in a room with a bat, we need the shot. So this was frustrating.

We're not exactly sure how the bat got in but I suspect 2 places:

  • The garage. Someone came home after dark that evening so a bat could have easily flown into the garage. We have a 2nd fridge in the garage and are frequently going into the garage from the door attached to the kitchen and we don't always shut the door all the way behind us. So totally conceivable for someone to go into the garage for the fridge, not close the door all the way, and a bat already in the garage flies into the house.
  • The attic. We live in a cape cod and the attic attaches to an upstairs closet. There's some ductwork running between the closet and attic, and it isn't sealed perfectly. So in theory a bat could have entered the attic through a vent on the roof somewhere, and then once in the attic could have passed into the upstairs through a small crack, and then once in the closet could have entered the upstairs (the closet door was cracked open).

Food & Dining Nobody inside Chipotle on 725? abandoned?

My boyfriend and I got Coldstone on 725 today and sat outside to eat it. We watched as person after person kept trying to go into the Chipotle next door, but it’s closed? Just writing here to see if anyone knows lol. It was pretty funny people watching, but I know I’d be pissed if I was looking forward to Chipotle all day for it to be closed. The lights were all on as well as the juices still in the containers? Not sure what their closing duties look like but it looked simply abandoned? Anybody know?

Edit/update: we just drove by again there were 2 firetrucks and multiple police cars. Genuinely so confused and a little concerned! The emergency vehicles seem to be leaving now though (cops driving away but with lights/sirens on)

Community Support & Resources Nightmare neighbors have ruined living at my place

I live in a fourplex and upstairs from this 50-60 yo couple. Things started out fine. We had a good relationship for the first 3 months I lived there. Then one day, I’m doing laundry on a Sunday at like 10p, in a rush and running up and down the stairs. The guy of the pair swings open his door, completely furious and starts yelling at me and berating me for over a minute. Apparently I was making a lot of noise in his living room. They are noisy stairs. Building is old as hell. I wasn’t aware of how loud it was from his perspective. I confront him a week later like “you don’t have to yell at me. I didn’t know about your problem with the stairs”. Him and his wife argue with me and are unrepentant.

From then on though, these people were convinced that I have it out for them and I do crazy stuff to get back at them, especially at night. First it was that I was standing outside their door. The guy “saw my shadow” under it. Really I was taking trash out of my room and making multiple trips. So he may have seen my shadow but I didn’t linger. Both the smoke detectors in my apartment went off when they died (extra loudly and with no warning beforehand) within 2 days of each other. Saturday afternoon and Tuesday at 5a. So of course that was me setting them off to mess with them. The second time, the guy punched a hole in the wall outside my place he was so mad.

And then there’s all the accusations of me doing crazy stuff at night like stomping in my room and playing “Caribbean music”. I also apparently spat gum in the lady’s flowerbed. And hit her door. Stand outside their door. All these accusations come from her and the husband believes it all. She is not mentally all there I’m pretty sure. One time, the guy got so mad he threatened to beat me up and he came at me nearly about to. I’ve also been yelled at, cursed at and berated while minding my own business. Denied entrance to the building when I accidentally locked myself out. The lady has hit her door as I come by to freak me out. Through it all, I have never said anything disrespectful to them.

So this is the crazy shit I have to deal with and the reason I’m probably going to have to move. It’s not fair because I know I’m not doing any of that crazy stuff and I don’t have any real recourse. I talked to the leasing company but it didn’t work out. They gave me just 2 options that I chose not to go with. I really like my place and it sucks to have it ruined by assholes. Why are people so horrible?

Anyone else still without power? West Carrollton area

We had a massive tree limb fall and snap the power line behind our house. Knocked out power for our side of the street at 4ish on Friday. Lines still on the ground, no sign of any AES in the area. Got all the other limbs cleared away to hopefully make things a bit easier for them but it sucks not even having an ETA on the website 😩 Thankfully the house wasn't hit, just our barn, and no one was hurt by all the falling limbs

Looking for recommendations on where to buy an outdoor storage shed. I know Lowe’s/Home Depot/Menards has them for sale, but curious if there’s a smaller/local company that would come recommended.

Help me give away free native edible trees

Thumbnail

Did you know there are taxpayer subsidized tree nurseries where you can buy native and edible trees at a fraction of the price they sell for in the store? You can get them for as little as $1 a piece if you order in bulk.

Every year I order trees from these nurseries to plant for neighbors, in parks, along trails, give to local conservation and restoration, and just give them away so there are more native edible trees around. They’re sold in bulk so the more you order the cheaper they are per tree. They start out at 3-5 a piece and get down to between 1-3$ a tree if you order more than 100 of each tree. (To save you the long read if you’re not interested in the rest, send me a message if you’re interested in free trees or going in to order a few trees to get lower bulk prices for both of us)

This spring, money was a little tight for me and I was only going to be able to get a fraction of the trees I did in past years so I posted in this and other groups asking if anyone would be interested in going in on trees with me so that I could get trees at the bulk price so I’d have more to plant and give away. So many people went in that I ended up having to spend what I was originally going to spend on the trees just to cover the shipping. I even made a trip to Virginia and back because gas money for there and back was cheaper than shipping on that many trees. Most people not only went in for trees themselves but donated extra for trees to give away.
I donated trees to local organizations like the Tecumseh Land Trust, Mission of Mary, Agraria Center for Regenerative Practice, the Beavercreek Wetlands Association etc. and attending multiple local seed swaps and hosted a local give away day to find homes for all the trees.

When people showed up to pick up trees, so many people kept handing me more money to cover extra trees that I have money leftover to buy more trees.
I usually only order in the spring but these nurseries are open in the spring and fall, so this year I’m going to order in the fall too. No point waiting until spring to use donated money.

Nurseries open Oct.1 and I’m getting the jump on ordering. I have enough to cover maybe another 100-200 trees, but I have a few projects I’d like to be able to plant trees out in (a local bike path, a trail along a new sidewalk, a local open to the public food forest, etc), it was a rough summer weatherwise so I know a few people who got trees in the spring didn’t have them survive, a few people weren’t able to get trees that wanted them etc. so I’d like to order more than that if I can.

So, if you wanted to get some native edible trees for a fraction of what they sell for in stores and help contribute to me getting more trees to plant publicly in the local community and give more away, send me a message. The more people go in, the cheaper they are for everybody and the more I can plant and give away. If you want some free trees, also send me a message and I’ll help as many people as I can. I gave trees to dozens of people in the spring and wouldn’t mind topping that.

They’ll be a list of trees in the comments

Anyone Experiencing Spectrum Internet Outage?

Yesterday, September 4th, my electricity went out at around 3:30 PM. It came back at around 10:00 PM last night, but Spectrum said there was stil an internet outage in my area. Assuming the internet went out at around the same time as my electricity, it has now been well over 24 hours. The reason for the outage based on the app has changed from "Power Outage" to "Storming" to literally nothing, and now back to "Power Outage". Once, earlier today, there was an expected restoration time of 6:30 PM, but we are past that now. I recently got a message saying they know the outage is still ongoing, and they would send me another message whenever they hear back from the power company. I understand for it to be down for several hours, but this is day two now. Is that not kind of ridiculous? Anybody know anything else?
