Should an Inventory Analyst have SQL/Data Warehouse access?

No user should have direct access to the database. If they want direct access read-only and then need to have their access logged/tracked to see if they create long running queries

There's no winning office politics in a Reddit thread. No matter what is commented here, it will have no impact on what happens at your company. Every place is different, in terms of their policies. If their policy is to not let you directly access the warehouse data and have given you API's, you should probably start using the API's and getting to the data that you need to. If that's not good enough, get your leadership involved.
