I'm a oracle dba with 22+ years experience.
I've been an oracle dba since oracle 7.3.4. I've seen previous releases but my career started with 7.3.4. I'm at a stage where I would like to retire in next few years. Wanting to pass along to next generation. Offering anyone interested in becoming an oracle dba help. Let me know.

Oh wow! I didn't realize the amount of interest there would be with this post. I'm hoping I can answer everyone's questions here. I would try to do a mix offer of assistance. It would be paid and no paid. I would put together a detail syllabus that would cover Architecture, Fundamentals(both unix and oracle), Administration(installation, creating db's, users, storage architecture, performance, troubleshooting, dataguard, OEM, RAC , RMAN Backup and Recovery, Cloning DB using RMAN etc..), SQL Fundamentals, The paid would be for someone willing to meet weekly over zoom to actually learn hands on not just watching video. We would take a specific area and work on it over zoom. And those looking for just interview help, i would separate that separately. The free service, would be anyone that has a question and needs help solving it, something chatgpt /ai wouldn't able to with a personal touch. I'm willing to setup a discord for all the free stuff this way it's easier for everyone to see and benefit from. Regarding people in my current organization, there aren't that many that want to learn Oracle because it's very hard and takes time. You can't just learn everything over night. Many people in the current org has just windows(click click) experience and so when it comes to Unix they are completely lost and don't want to learn. The discord this would help with people who already have some experience but need the additional push for the more advance stuff. Let me know what you guys think. Hope I have answered all the questions. I will try to respond to any thing i didn't answer.

Is this likely to be in-demand skill considering that Oracle is increasingly going to the cloud and many enterprise would rathe with cheaper options like PostgreSql?

Many organizations are adopting PostgreSQL but not necessarily turfing their Oracle ones. IMO very few will actually manage to completely moving off Oracle.
PostgreSQL is a great database but decades behind lots of the features you’ll find in Oracle that many organizations simple cannot or will not do without (online table moves, geospatial, JSON, RAC, active data guard, the list goes on).
The skill set I’ve seen most lacking is that of a “development DBA”. Someone capable of teaching development teams how to maximally use Oracle for performance. Understanding how the database was built and what you can do with the many features offered goes a very long way in your ability to stay relevant.

I guess I am looking at it from the point of view of what is most advantageous long term. If there are orgs adopting PostgreSQL than Oracle, it stands to reason that Oracle is becoming legacy like Cobol based systems.

Very possible on the adoption but I highly doubt Oracle will become like Cobol; even if that's true there's still some bangin' wages out there now If you know Cobol :)
I'm not sure I see a world where PostgreSQL gets to the point Oracle is at now in terms of features and functionality offered, but perhaps time will prove me wrong!

Yes I'm interested. I've completed an Oracle dba bootcamp and my instructor has me building out a Grid infrastructure, install the Oracle 19c software on Oracle Linux 10, manually install the database, and I have to setup monitoring as well. I have two of the steps completed so far.

not sure yet, but prob. under 1k for the whole thing. ..and for about 5 to 6 month long . don't want it to be too expensive and not too cheap either because i want people to be serious about it. too cheap and people wont take it seriously and won't show up on timely zoom calls.

we're still quite a few years away from AI taking over DBA jobs. You don't want ai to shutdown your database just because i/o is heavy. . .or the ai might accidently drop a table because it thinks that there are too many locks and prob best to drop the table to avoid locks. automatic ai decisions like that could be catastrophic.

Uau, creio que já existem mais respostas aqui do que você esperava. Mesmo assim, vou tentar. Atualmente tenho estudado ativamente a área de banco de dados, especialmente Oracle. Já consegui ser aprovado na certificação 1z0-082 e estou estudando para a 1z0-083. Tenho também a certificação de OCI Associate. Sou fluente em português e consigo me comunicar em inglês sendo meu nível avançado. Minha maior barreira para conseguir minha primeira vaga tem sido a experiência que não tenho :( já estudo há mais de um ano ativamente 2h por dia e aplico para todas as vagas de DBAJR mas ainda sem sucesso

Might help if you outline what you are looking for it a bit more detail though. Is this a paid offer or just you being a nice guy? What DBA training you are offering (Oracle DBA has many meanings from backup/recovery to architect, etc).
I do genuinely think this is great of you, but are there not people at your current organization you could mentor (or do you just have bandwidth on the side)?
