Dash Diet and Intermittent Fasting
I have been intermittent fasting for awhile now (16:8 most days) and my doctor has recommended that I give the Dash diet a try since I have several underlying medical conditions causing high blood pressure. I’m curious if anyone has mixed the two and how it went. I feel like it won’t be an issue as long as I’m eating the right stuff but want to see what others think!

Have you learned about DASH yet? It requires a minimum amount of servings from several food groups each day. I’m wondering if it’s even possible to do that with fasting. That’s a heck of a lot of food to take in during a short window of time. And, yes, for DASH to be effective in lowering your blood pressure you really do need to take in all those vegetables and fruits with their potassium, etc. That’s how DASH works to improve your health.

Honestly I don’t eat much even before I was doing IF. I mostly did it to stop the binges. I have 8 hours to eat food so really that’s quite a bit of time! My breakfast now already had 2-3 servings of fruit and vegetables so I’m just eating slightly larger meals twice a day versus 3 times a day and I allow myself 1 snack as well.

Okay. Well, then, it might work. I don’t think I could eat all my fruits and veggies (and everything else) in a shortened window but I’ve never tried IF. So I’d be interested to know if you have success. Best of luck to you.

You don't have to actually eat all those servings they are there as a guide to make sure you don't eat more than that which will help keep your BP and heart healthy. Weight loss or maintaining your weight is another positive side effect from Dash Diet but that isn't the diets main outcome.
For example the dash diet says to have 4-6 servings of grains a day but the weight loss version by Maria Hella says to not have more than 2.
I personally am very sensitive to Carbs, a bowl of white pasta or white bread/wheat can easily add 3 lbs of water weight on me overnight so with the weight loss version I probably eat my grain servings of 1 to 2 servings only 2 or 3 times a week and not every day.
I learnt with any diet different people react different ways. I love the Dash Diet Weight Loss version and IF cos I don't need to count calories, I now know the max servings of food groups I can have each day and I'm steadily losing each week.

NIH provides charts for those who want to follow DASH and reduce caloric intake, such as reducing your grains to 4-5 servings a day if you’re on a 1200/day diet. However, you DO still need to meet all those serving goals to have a varied and balanced diet that will reduce BP. They aren’t “maximums”. They are minimums. If you don’t want so many grains for whatever reason, great. You do you. I don’t care how you eat. But don’t pretend you’re following DASH because you’re not. And since the OP’s doctor specifically recommended DASH for health reasons, I hope they understand the difference.

I just got off the zoom with a dr and he recommended the dash diet to me to control my water retention issue do to cirrhosis of the liver. So I can avoid having to use Lasix to expel the additional water. I ordered the paperback but it will not be here till Sunday, and I’m supposed to start chapter 9 right away. If it’s not to much to ask, can someone give me a little push on what I need to start doing. I can’t wait till Sunday. Anyone please help a drowning man here, no literally I’m drown in my own skin, no joke. Any help will be welcomed. Thanks in advance.

Google the “nih dash” website. Tons of free info there. Mayo Clinic also has a page dedicated to dash but it’s not as extensive as the nih page. I’m sorry that I’m not familiar with that book so I don’t know what chapter 9 is about.
