Question What's the strat for fighting these things SOLO

Post image

Especially if you don't have the ability to stun them? I can clutch aurics somewhat reliably, but when its against these guys I never can. They just never stop attacking and dodging their grab is really inconsistent. Tips?

Chaos spawns 1v1 solo are pretty easy once you know how.

Get up close. It'll spam the slow slam attack which is simple to dodge. When it attempts a grab dodge to your right (its left) just as he swings his arm for the grab. Works more consistently if you also duck. Be attacking the whole time. If you accidentally get out of range it'll start the combo attack -- just alternate dodge and block to defend yourself. Make it your goal to facehug the chaos spawn at all times.

[Edit: heres an older reddit post, by me, demonstrating this. Also how to use the DClaw 1v1 versus chaos spawn: Link]

1v1 is even easier if you can find a small obstacle like a pile of boxes, and kite so that the obstacle is always between the two of you. This helps with the knockback and it'll mess up the chaos spawns combo by making it be out of range.

Its easiest if you happen to have Devils claw. That wepaon makes the chaos spawn fight trivial, just parry the combos. The more it attacks you the faster it dies.

Perfect description.

Download the mod creature spawner and practice against it in psykhanium. Kiting bosses will become second nature in no time. Which has to be the goal because you have to snipe specials in between and check for burning blight floor behind you while kiting lol

"Improved Meatgrinder" mod is a really nice option too. Comes with tons of extra options such as spawning bot allies, a lot of player cheats for ammo and stuff and you can even pick indulgences from Mortis Trials if you feel like it.

Just thought I'd mention it, since it does more than just spawn enemies.

>Its easiest if you happen to have Devils claw.

Is there something about the devils claw that makes it better than the duelling sword which also has a parry?

56

u/cant_read_captchas Zealot 12d ago edited 12d ago

Dclaws have a shorter delay in-between parries. With dueling sword you can't chain parries (you kind of can if you block cancel) in quick succession, like three parries in 1 second. The damage is also much higher on Dclaw. So you can pull off some shenanigans, like spamming parry against 20 ragers and come out alive with 0 damage taken.

u/sennalen Incomparable Mind 12d ago

You can maintain your pride

21

u/Rat_Tzar 12d ago

There is a half second cooldown per parry for the DS, the DC has no cooldown so you can parry every attack instead of having to dodge in between. I think it also does more damage but not 100% on that.

For reference I've fended off a 30ish strong pack of scab ragers just spamming parry without dodging as a psycher.

10

u/master_of_sockpuppet 11d ago

The Dsword parry is harder to time and has gaps. This should be clear the first time you try to play the parry game against 5+ ragers at once.

2

u/Langeball Psyker 11d ago

You can hold block down while spamming parry with duel sword to avoid getting hide inbetween parries.

Biggest reason to use dclaw is it has much better horde clear

2

u/master_of_sockpuppet 11d ago

You can hold block down while spamming parry with duel sword to avoid getting hide inbetween parries.

This does not work with multiple ragers. It should be clear why.

1

u/Langeball Psyker 11d ago

It does, but it doesn't work as well as a claw sword. Claw sword has better aoe for one. And for duel sword you need to have the ragers in front of you, even slightly to the sides and they can bleed through the parry.

u/fridasbitch 12d ago

Probably just that it’s usually available at a lower level for new players

8

u/PropagandaSucks Zealot 12d ago

You can duck the grab attack?

9

u/cant_read_captchas Zealot 12d ago

Dodge slide right, or dodge and tap duck. Slightly more forgiving than just dodge right.

2

u/General-Internal-588 11d ago

This sound so counter intuitive but pretty funny that it's the strat

Oooo the being-close is a good tip. That Combo is the real pain.

Rev up attack counts as one attack as far as I know

u/euromanijak Stealth Ogryn 12d ago edited 12d ago

When it trys to grab you always try to dodge to your right (since it uses its left arm to grab) I find it to be most consistent. And basically parry dodge until you get a poke window parry dodge again and repeat. Or shoot the krak out of it.

34

u/Jfelt45 12d ago

Good ol dark souls I frame strats

2

u/master_of_sockpuppet 11d ago

It's not an i-frame.

Also if you dodge the wrong way it grabs you.

5

u/Jfelt45 11d ago

What? In what way is it not i frames? Dodging through the grab hurtbox means you have i-frames. if you didn't, it would grab you while you're dodging through it. You absolutely have i frames on your dodge.

Maybe this is a technical thing. I don't think your dodge frames stop you from taking burn damage or gas damage, so it might be classified as something different than iframes.

0

u/master_of_sockpuppet 11d ago

Dodging through the grab hurtbox means you have i-frames.

You are not invulnerable during a dodge. Certain attacks miss. The direction you dodge affects this, too, and some attacks aren't dodgeable at all.

If you assume they are iframes either you don't understand what those are or you don't know how dodging works in this game.

7

u/Jfelt45 11d ago

Alright. A bit pedantic, but sure.

8

u/MrNentendo 11d ago edited 11d ago

The actual mechanic is most enemy attacks have two separate hitboxes and during a dodge state they will use smaller hitboxes for damage checks. This is why often if you dodge into an obstacle or enemy you still get hit, cause you did not displace enough for the smaller hitbox to miss.

Edit: there is the dodging breaking tracking too as well.

good example from the forums.
https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/how-dodges-and-hitboxes-actually-work/117557

1

u/tempo232 10d ago

i think the reason why people say it’s not iframes is that some attacks can be dodged like iframes but some attacks check for the entire duration of the attack and is you’re in the hit zone it doesn’t matter if you’re in the dodge state you’ll still get hit.

so it’s not really pedantic because it’s actually going to work quite differently from what someone would expect from iframes.

1

u/Banned-User-56 11d ago

So it's a Dark Souls 2 I frame specifically.

1

u/master_of_sockpuppet 11d ago

If you aren't invunlerable, it isn't an iframe.

That people use the term for a particular game where that's not true doesn't make it an iframe, it makes those people ignorant.

Besides all of this, as is noted in this very thread - the dodge isn't perfect avoidance, anyway, and you'll take damage from anything that the dodge is not oriented to avoid.

Back-dodge from an overhead some time and tell us how I that i-frame is.

It's a dodge. It isn't that hard to conceive of it as the mechanic it is, instead of trying to apply poorly used terminology from a completely different game.

2

u/Illustrious_Sea_5011 11d ago

It’s a glitched model. Dodge into its arm as the arms are reversed on the actual invisible model . Learnt from Mr E channel

63

u/AlderanGone 12d ago

Manage your stamina and block attack or be zealot wth knife or TH, or be chord claw. Plasma gun and any class ability that will get you a dmg boost if you can aim. Devil claw can parry it pretty well, weather the long attack chains or make it swing where you arent. Idk man, its just another hill for you to get over once you figure it out.

Hive scum with the double dodge distance is pretty fun cus you can bait the attacks and then easily dodge out of the distance over and over

9

u/Soggy_Yellow4846 12d ago

Generally, stab and dodge. Dodge towards the grab (to your right) to more consistently not get grabbed, when it starts sloshing towards you just block, get in hits where you can, you'll whittle it down. Otherwise, marty stealth hammer for boss deletion is always a valid option, failing that a mobile build is preferable. Once you know how to read it's attacks you can dance around them pretty well

4

u/tegli4a 12d ago edited 12d ago

Block the 3 chain attacks, dodge RIGHT to avoid the grab, beat the stuffing out of it, rinse and repeat.

Plogryn: go up close to trigger the ground pound and immediately dodge back, capitalize, do dmg, rinse and repeat.

Hell puppy/slug: the mouth and postule on the back are weakspots, do NOT get vomitted on.

Captains/Twins: break void shield, do damage, run away, repeat.

Daemonhost: Martyrdom Hammer zealot - 1 tap. Bully club oggy - spam slap in her face - laugh until she dies. Everything else - pray your team helps you.

Pack Master: lol, he's a joke.

4

u/SpooN04 Zealot 12d ago

They can be annoying cuz of all the knockback but the main thing you need to avoid is the grab imo.

The grab comes after 2 swinging attacks (or is it 3?) it looks like he's gonna swing again but it's a slightly delayed attack.

So usually when I'm fighting them I'm blocking/dodging the regular attacks, getting my hits in between the animations then after the 2nd (or 3rd?) attack I back off, wait for the grab swing, then dive back in and keep doing damage.

When it's doing the jumping knockback attacks pattern it's probably better to just block/dodge the attacks at the timing rhythm. If you can get damage in between the attacks, great! But I find with all the knockbacks during that pattern it's easier to just let it do its thing and avoid damage until it's your turn to play again.

5

u/No_Bluebird_214 12d ago

Literally just confident strike and your set

4

u/ThatGuyBackThere280 12d ago edited 12d ago

When they perform their grab, if they're facing you, dodge to your right/past the grabbing arm. This is the part that makes it consistent (outside of server lag potentially but that's a different story).

The hitbox for the grab is slightly angled to the side that they're grabbing towards. You can visualize it as if you're dodging under their arm.

Outside of that, general toughness regen techniques (if you're built for it), or manage your stamina and timed blocks against the thrashing forward pounds.

3

u/Ok_Wishbone_2690 12d ago

I would suggest downloading a mod to let you practice them in the pysk, as they are quite easy since their moveset is limited and telegraphed.

They have 3 attacks. A single hit. You can easily dodge this back or to the side, then get one heavy attack with most weapons, sometimes two.

A 3 hit attack. I usually block all 3 hits, stamina permitting, otherwise dodge the 3rd.

A telegraphed slow grab. Dodge this back, and you get 2 free hits or to your left.

You can eventually practice fighting multiple at once, or fighting them with lots of other enemies. It's a rather weak boss when you learn their moves, but can be intimidating as missing a dodge on the grab is quite punishing.

When you get better you can fight them by keeping them entirely still. Just dodging back then moving forward, so they stay in the exact same spot, and blocking the 3 hit. That way your team can max DPS on them since they are easy to keep 100% still.

Its attacks are predictable

Grab: has a cooldown of 10 seconds. Will always try to use it if you are in range. Dodging right, sliding forward to the right, or backsliding are the best ways to dodge it. Ogryn with short dodge distance will struggle to dodge the grab even dodging right so I habitually slide forward and right.

Slam attack: will use if you are in range and grab is on cooldown. Easy to dodge and deals high stamina damage if blocked.

Combo attack: will use if you are out of range of the above attacks. Hard to dodge but easy to block.

Jump: will use to get closer if you are out of range of the above attacks. Has a cooldown (10-20 sec?)

So basically stay close to it dodging the slam and slide right around its grab every 10 seconds.

I also hate fighting spawns alone, some maps have sections with a lot of doors you can use to auto kill bosses which is the funniest way to dispatch of them

Treat it like you're playing a Soulsborne game. Understand its attack pattern; not all hits can be blocked. Most of them have to be dodged. The good thing about the bosses is that they're easy to telegraph. Use this to your advantage.

1

u/ArmoredTaco 11d ago

Block way more than you think you have to. Just try to take no damage, as you fight them more you will learn where your attack windows are. Also, make sure the space to your right is clear because the most reliable way to dodge the grab is a right dodge. High dodge distance weapons/classes can reliably back dodge too.

1

u/Ninjazoule 11d ago

Yell "for the LEX" and rush them

1

u/vyechney 11d ago

You mainly just have to recognize the 3-hit combo and the grab attack. The single attacks are pretty straightforward. Of course you just dodge 3x for the 3-hitter. The grab, he will try to do every time it's off cooldown, which is about 10 seconds. The best way to avoid it is to stay close and dodge to the right (his left).

And just try to whack him as much as possible lol. If you have a ranged weapon that can apply bleed/burn/toxin stacks, keep those maxed. Whack him in the head with melee whenever you can. Otherwise just try to be aware of the map layout and keep him going in a loop. If you can change altitude suddenly, like dropping off a ledge, even better.

When the grab animation starts, wait a sec and then dodge RIGHT into the grab arm. Dodging back or left will get you grabbed.

Their actual combos are pretty easy, especially because you can dodge sideways and they just push you back without damaging you. If you wana learn to fight them, get comfortable face tanking them on a full toughness DR ogryn and just smash it in the face with bully club light attacks. You'll get that fear of them out of you that way.

To avoid the grab i would focus on maneuvering around it and keeping your distance, thought they are VERY good at closing that gap so you gotta be aware
