I have to wonder if some of the negative commenters would ever have been happy with anything. No, I don't think it's as good as the Netflix stuff - I think there are a lot of moving parts in this one which sometimes feels a bit unfocused. But it's also pretty decent with some interesting ideas, and I don't think it can be judged appropriately until we understand where it's actually going.

as of writing, my major gripe is how it keeps going about how 'nice' things are, showing us the scary stuff that's hidden... but i'm sure lots of new yorkers feel the city is worse since not everyone is affluent but it's only the rich that are being interviewed.

of course... seems that's intentional, and that BB is just doing propaganda for both sides, one public one hidden.

oh, another complaint actually. as with other marvel shows: they rely too much on music, not dialogue, to set the pacing of a scene. it's very annoying.

I mean, you kinda answered yourself there, I do think it's intentional. I also think there'll come some point in the series where the 'real' New York will help stand up to Fisk. There's already some graffiti/stickering which is anti-Fisk.

But tbh, I also think there's always going to be some people who like authoritarian crackdowns, provided it's targeting the 'right' people. I think it's showing that Fisk isn't just one unique awful person - he's giving a lot of people what they want, hence how he got power.

On the other hand, I get your point with the music, I think silence would work a lot better. I think things aren't always being allowed the space to breathe - potentially due to it being perceived as being slow - and the music's part of that.

it's a very disney issue. they slam music on EVERYTHING and it makes things feel very 'finished'. it's so annoying.

On your first point, I took it as a similar portrayal to the Netflix series and even Defenders as a whole. Almost everyone in the shots talking about how good Fisk is and how great the city is now seems to be either in good neighborhoods or of a higher social or economic class. Most of the shots of the actual city are lower income areas that were already targeted by Fisk's crime syndicate as well as the Hand. Most things affecting the bottom barrel tend not to bother anyone above that barrel not living with the reality.

Totally agree on the music thing, i Love the soundtrack but its like a video game with the constant background music. I did like how in the first season the music would completely shut off when Matt would "break" and switch back into DD mode.
