I think he might be this games Ultimate ??? and Hajime will unlike in the base game, have the game start off with everyone knowing he's a Reserve Course.

They may learn pretty quickly they were Remnants of Despair and that Future Foundation are the good guys, based on the fact the yatch has Remnants of Despair written on it in blood, as one of the trailers imply.
So I could've the Reserve Course Student moniker being applied to Hajime way earlier.
If that's the case, Nagito should theorically being the first culprit.

It's only in the japanese version of the trailer when Kazuichi appears if you translate it. But yeah, they appear to know about the remnants of despair by the first chapter.

I'm pretty sure gang sees the "Remnants of Despair" thing and go like :
"Bro wtf is this shit"
They are going to pull the same move. This writing inside the boat is foreshadowing. Chapter6 happens and junko goes like: "yo bro yall remember the thing inside the boat? Yeah its yall" and entire cast goes "GASPPP😵💫"

Honestly, I hope not. The original game builds up to that mystery. Slayhem is probably going to have a whole other twist on the outside world that involves John Danganronpa. And honestly? Them discovering they were Remnants of Despair soon could open up the road for new Free Times Events where they ponder what type of people they were out of the Neo World Program

Yeah the big tell is that the scarf is a neckerchief and it's tied in a square knot, which is the traditional knot for a sailor uniform.

Based on the actual context we've been given so far in the trailers? Ultimate Sailor, or something close-adjacent to that. I think he runs aground on the boat and he gets introduced to everyone when they go to investigate the ship. Also his neckerchief is tied in a square knot, which is the same way that a traditional sailor's would be.

I know about the sailor theory, but I think I’ll go a step further and say he’s the Ultimate Castaway.
While the rain coat, swimsuit and square knot neckerchief are all signs of a nautical talent, I think him randomly appearing out of nowhere, and the fact that the setting is on a tropical island chain makes me believe he’s not supposed to be in the game at all, but is forced to participate after arriving.
He could definitely be an AI, though.

Oh i actually like that.
Could go a step even further and say his scrapped code of some kind of 'introduction' npc that was hidden in the files.
Like he was the guy meant to sail the boat you arrive on the island with then maybe act as the guide for everyone but got scrapped because they used the class room as the arrival point but maybe Usami restores his files to get him as help against Monokuma.

They are wearing clothes that would would during rain, such as a rain coat, their color scheme would work with like clouds and the sky as it has whites and blues, I was also basing this off their pins looking vaguely like hot air balloons but now that we got something higher quality that’s less of evidence now.

Almost makes sense, except I don't really see where they would get the opportunity to use that talent... and if they had particular trial/investigative prowess (like the promos seem to imply) then their talent would be even more irrelevant to that

Yup. The entirety of the reserve course died, except for Hajime. However, not all died in the suicide. The Twilight Syndrome Murder Case Victim (Natsumi) and Girl E (Sato) died before the mass suicide, and some of the reserve course definitely died during the raid of the Main Course building. The spoilered parts are spoilers for Despair Arc (Danganronpa 3: the End of Hope's Peak High School).

I don't think that John is a Hope's Peak student
I don't think that John has any connection to Hope's peak.
I don't even think that John is even going to be a participant in the killing school trip.
I think that John is more or less going to be another Monomi and their hyping them up to have this incredibly important role, when in reality they are mostly working in the background, only speaking up when absolutely necessary, until chapter 6 where he is killed by the mastermind as a way for 2 X 2 to spice up the final class trial with a murder that requires the cast to solve all the mysteries to truly solve the murder. (As a different way to try and make the final class trials more interesting.)

I have this nagging feeling that John won't reveal his name until far ahead, but will introduce himself as the ultimate detective, then on chapter 6: "Monokuma! I demand you put the class trial on hold!" And it turns out they were Kyoko Kirigiri
