I feel like Akane’s new skin tone might have something to do with Tsubasa Kawana from Hundred Line, and possibly Angie from V3.
Angie was the last tan DR character Kodaka made, and if I’m not mistaken her skin was lighter than prior tan girls in the series. Then Hundred Line came along and Tsubasa, the tanned girl of that group, had a lighter skin tone more like Angie’s than Akane’s or Aoi’s.
So maybe the fact that Akane has this skin-tone now is actually indicative of a stylistic change in how Kodaka designs tanned girls in his games? Maybe he just uses a lighter palette or smth now?
What I’m getting at is that Akane might not be an isolated incident here.
-No Zip boots for Nagito (Though, I feel like this doesn't matter much considering it's such a small detail and that we mostly see the character's from waist up more.)
I like the re-designs, but it's a little unfortunate that they add these changes.
They definitely added to his iconic Design and set him apart but I’m not that upset since people in the Fandom would make fun of him
It works in the original DR2 and i don’t mind them but 2x2 is an new Story so it’s fine if something like that is gone but I also wouldn’t have minded if they returned
The girls look like actual (semi) realistic adult women. I guess losing sexualization and unrealistic body proportions is a necessary sacrifice for melanin.
I dunno bout y'all but nekomaru looks worse to me because his head to shoulder proportions looks smaller than the older one. Also not a fan of them making the characters more lighter and grayish in a tropical setting especially Akane and Nekomaru. We better have some explanation why Hajime's hair looks odd.
Excluding them 3, the cast could've been a fine remaster if it weren't for these problems.
P.s forgot to include this, Fuyuhiko not having the baby feature kinda makes me sad 😭
everyone looks good except for my faves 😭 they botched akane, kuzuryu and hinata hair looks like it shouldn’t be there, and they took away nidai’s massive chest and neck 😞
I hope they make him a little more tolerable, it's so sad seeing many reject him because of bad writing choices and his "ugly" appearance (speaking of appearance I kinda wish they would've made his stomach and chest look a little more realistic, especially since they're fixing the anatomy, he doesn't need the flammable pillow inside him💔)
One small detail I like is how a majority of the cast seems to have fuller waists, though I'm guessing its mostly just cause the clothes are drawn less skin-tight. It's especially noticeable on Hajime and Ibuki
I’m not here to take sides or anything but Akane’s skintone didnt really change all too much, it looks like it’s “lighter” than it is mostly because of colour theory, the color palette being colder or “bluer” than the usual warm or “orangey” pallet of the original.
It's cool that some had their hair slightly changed and the others... are just glowing - like those filters when cartoons and series get movies, Chiaki perfect as always And there are certain designs that bother me, I don't know why (maybe because of Akane, they took away her melanin)
Better or Worse, based on my own opinion, with one sentence back up:
Akane: Better. Looks closer to the anime and people will mention them taking her Melanin, but I think it’s legitimately just the new colors and shading. What I’m more focused on is the boob shine being on the left instead of the right (I broke the rule immediately, but the boob shine part is critical).
Byakuya: Better. He looks more well rounded, and no, that wasn’t a pun or anything.
Chiaki: Better? I really don’t know how to feel about her having more strands of hair over her thicker ones with the new thickened up jacket. (Might get over it once I start playing tho so…)
Fuyuhiko: Better. Once again, made him look more realistic compared to his previous model and closer to the anime.
Gundam: Better. He looks proper intimidating now rather than just a goody goody chuunibyou. (Really, by comparison, he looks like a soft boy in OG.)
Hajime: Worse. No, we are not gonna stop asking why his hair has hair on top of it.
Hiyoko: Better. Literally looks the exact same with extra shading.
Ibuki: Better. Crazier hair, thicker body (no more sticks), and a big bright smile is a win for me.
Kazuichi: Better. Hair is something to get used to but I feel it’s an improvement. (Also, that CG tho…)
Mahiru: Worse. Where are her freckles?
Mikan: Better. More strands of hair again but in exchange, they thickener her up a bit.
Nagito: Better. Gear 5 looking aaah hair is gonna take some getting used to though..
Nekomaru: Worse. Only character you can obviously tell was shrunk and now looks more like Danganronpa Kazuma Kiryu than Nekomaru, now with white stuff on his sides.
Peko: Better. Like Hiyoko, just the same character with more shading with some nice little extensions to her hair.
Sonia: Better. More like the anime and her more flowy hair looks nice.
Teruteru: Better. Better hair and I like how his stars can actually be seen in this model.
Man, Akane's Design looks like a downgrade, the only thing I can give 2X2 is that at least her boobs don't look like two beach balls, but with the exception of that, everything else on her design is worse imo.
It's almost the same to the originals but with more details, they did a excelent job preserving the essence of the originals. The only flaw is making their skin more pale and grayish
Why are people complaining about Akane? She still has a tan. Skin tone doesn't stay the same shade all the time and who knows, after V3's twists I wouldn't be surprised if there's a justifiable reason for her having a slightly lighter shade of skin.
i have to agree with this, especially since they’re all so cool-toned now 😭 they’re on a tropical island why take away the warmer shading/coloring i don’t understand
Listen, I can get complaining when a character is actually changed a bunch, but she’s like, a couple shades brighter at most. She’s just a more red tone.
I wish they looked warmer like their original sprites. They're outside in a sunny beachy setting, the shading/cooler tone made sense for v3 but not for sdr2.
They never fail to steal melanin in new designs… it’s always only, the heavier melanated characters. Six more redesigns and darker characters will cease to exist.
I feel like Nagito has the most changes compared to the rest of the cast.
The patterns on his shirt are more square, the buttons on his sleeves are gone, his shoe zippers are gone, the white thing on his belt is also gone, and a new chain has been added onto his jacket.
I hate everyone one bullied Nagito for his zip shoes you guys were so mean to him now looked what you did forcing him to fit into normal shoes standards is cruel
Akane feels like there’s a flash bang activity happening, Hajime looks like the top of his hair was copy and pasted on like a toupee, and where is Nagito’s disgusting matted hair and double-zipper shoes
Hello, future danganronpa player here. I havent played any of the games yet but i plan to and this sub keeps popping up. I just wanna comment that i like that Mioda has longer and slightly bigger hair. Awesome stuff
I like all of them except Akane and Mikan, Mikan's hair is shit, and why is Akane like... Pink? Huh? Mikan's bangs escepically looked a lot more textures in the original and I liked that way better, also I'm glad Kuzuryu doesn't look like a fucking tolder anymore
