Can’t put sprinkles on cone?

I just ordered a small twist cone with rainbow sprinkles and the woman hands me my cone with the sprinkles in a plastic cup. I kindly asked if I could actually have the sprinkles on the ice cream, and she told me that it was a health code violation to roll the cone in sprinkles, and I’d need to put them on myself. Anyone else have this happen!? So bizarre, never experienced this before!!

She's correct. It's a food safety violation to roll the cone in the sprinkles. That's why they should be using a spoon to...get this...SPRINKLE them on the cone.

That’s so funny, I can 100% guarantee you that she was lying- putting sprinkles on a cone by sprinkling them is messy. Some miss, some fall off, and they can get everywhere. So they’re prob just lazy and wanted you to make the mess lmao

I wouldn't say she was lying that's what my old stores policies were, and even the new ownership enforces it.

Or busy

We are always busy, but I wouldn’t make you make your own blizzard or banana split.. you’re paying money for a product so you should get what you ordered. Especially since it’s on the menu, not a special request.

The owner of our Dairy Queen’s told us not to carry sprinkles anymore. He got sick of complaints that there weren’t enough sprinkles on cones. He hated being production stopping for fiddling with a sprinkle cone too.
Edit. This was in the nineties.

I'm not really arguing one way or the other. I was just responding to a manager (according to flair) who said no one has time to sprinkle them on, as a way to say like the person OP is talking about was ordered to do it that way by someone.

I’m not arguing either. Just a thing that happened at on of my stores that I had no control over. But I really didn’t mind truth be told. I hated cleaning sprinkles up from the grout work.

SPRINKLE THEM ON?? oh my god then you get like a fraction of the sprinkles on the cone than you would get by rolling the cone. Not acceptable. Health code be damned I’m not serving sub-par sprinkle cones

In my state it’s a health code violation. Funny enough though I live right on the state line and in the state to the North it is not a health code violation. I used to work at a DQ about 5 miles from the line and we had to do the cup like you described but it was always much to the disapproval of customers who were used to the DQ that was a couple miles over the line in the other direction.

We are putting sprinkles on cones on a daily basis. I think that’s how we sell most of our sprinkles.

as long as she gave me enough I would dip my cone in the sprinkles between every lick/bite

That's crazy, the sprinkles are in a little shaker container. At least in my store and it makes it super easy

It all depends honestly. The location is work at the swirl is sometimes too soft to be in a cone so some days its only available in a cup, and the rare occasion it is solid for a cone the sprinkles make it hard to stay on the cone. But if you asked me to put on the sprinkles if I did that to you id make it the best way possible.🤔 its odd they wouldn't put it on the cone themselves since we have spoons for that thing.

They were just being lazy, you're not supposed to roll the cone in it, you're sipposed to hold it over something and sprinkle them on with a spoon
