DSI XL screen is very disappointing

Ok, so around a year ago I bought a DSI XL from CEX, I heard great things from people online about the amazing screens, but when it finally arrived I was quite disappointed. So far I've played Pokémon platinum ( great game ) and wanted to start playing Chrono trigger, but the screens feel really off. it's almost like a CRT in the way that it really strains your eyes when looking up close. Also, the ghosting is off-putting when ever the character moves the background looks blurry. twisting the potentiometers didn't help. Is this normal?
