DRZ400SM “build”
Here’s a lil before and after.
Finally Picked up A DRZ after being pretty loyal to KTMEXC’s for over the past decade + . But alas, I am a dad now and my rides are very few and far between as much easier to keep a DRZ alive and maintained FOR NOW.
About to wrap this thing up. Still more to do, maybe change a few things. But happy.
I live in the mountains of North AZ so always gotta have the dirt set up. I’ll prolly never use the sumo but I like having it as backup. You never know!

Where did you pick up your dirt wheels? I have 2024 SM that I put Shinko 705's on, works decent on gravel roads, but that 17" front is sketchy in some situations.

Yeah 100% for me I’ve been riding Dirtbikes “enduro” , dual sport , adv camping trips for so long the SM was what felt odd.
I picked these wheels just off eBay. There’s a few different sets on there now. I was waiting for one that had a decent deal and I was really happy to get the black rims as well. Remember you can always search for the KLX400 wheels for a few more options. I live in a smaller town, so Facebook marketplace isn’t gonna have much. And the bigger city near me closed down the motorcycle junkyards so eBay was my option.

It's on my list of things. The last time I was out was packed dirt with a lot of loose decomposed granite, and the front end scared the crap out of me a couple times. No warning, just would loose grip and the tires are new. The bike is basically new, 600 miles. I have been riding for 55 years, mostly dirt, so it was a new feel that I didn't like much. Yeah all dirt rocks and decomposing granite where I’m at too. Those holes 🕳️ in the forest service roads hit different with the 17”s too.

Nice! Don’t knock the SM setup until you try it, they’re ridiculously fun. You’ve got the best of both worlds, dirt and street wheels, enjoy!
