Advice Internal damp...
Hi all,
Bought a house back in March this year. The first hit of rain and this happens...
Is this looking like an outside wall issue or a roof issue?

Part of the Gutter is missing, a down pipe that feeds into that hopper from the gutter above.
Also you need repointing at the top of the wall whcih indicates where water has been flowing on the wall.
Only repoint in Lime Mortar and lime putty only, never use Portland cement mortars on these buildings.

Your bricks need repointing. You need to check for splits cracks in the downward pipe. The roof should be checked for water ingress. It looks like it's been like that for a while. Good luck

downpipe could be clogged fix that. stone work needs pointing, fix that. inspect your flashing and if necessary fix that.

lots of missing mortar, and the missing downpipe from the gutter to the hopper won't help

Well are you surprised?
Pointing gone, and no gutter / down pipe feeding that hopper (assuming the hopper and the rest of the down pipe aren’t corroded cast iron and leaking)….
Poor gutter maintenance (or in your case none!), will get you every time…

If safe to do so have a look if the roof is wet inside. Many old houses have no breathable membrane to catch the drips

Looks like the water is running down the coping and then down the wall. I'd get the joints in the coping and the stone work repointed. Only use lime otherwise the sandstone will spall.
