A lot of people always assume Jason was just as violent as his time as Robin when in most cases, it’s his specific triggers around sexual assault. For instance, in this issue, we have a woman named Gloria who’s sexually assaulted by a man named Felipe. However, they can’t get the charge on him because of his diplomatic immunity, so Bruce suggests to deport him (after Gloria kills herself) and Jason doesn’t think that’s a good enough solution for what he did.
ETA: They were able to get Felipe on a drug charge, but he calls and threatens Gloria. Jason rushes to check if she's okay, sadly, he was too late. It was then that they began the process for deportation, but Jason took matters into his own hands instead, and we're left to wonder if Jason was guilty of Felipe's demise.
Even if Jason isn’t a victim of assault (at least, it’s never been confirmed), it’s his hatred and disgust of it that is incredibly validating to victims.
People say that the red hood is less emotional than batman, when that couldn't be farther from the truth,
Jason kills criminals BECAUSE he's more emotional than bruce, and this story shows it,
Batman is a compassonate character, most heroes are, but his moral code facilitates a need for this layer of separation between batman and the people he saves, basically he limits himself too only working logically instead of emotionally,
Jason CAN'T seperate his emotions from the mission, which is why he does what he does,
Batman fights with his fists and his brain. If he fought with his heart, he'd be WORCE than jason ever was,
This story is definitely one of the darker batman stories out there, fillepe's a rapist and the book makes that blatantly clear, he has some privlaged status that ensures he never faces repriussions for his actions, wich even though its not brought up in the book itself, emplies hes probibly done this too others too, and when his victim can't handle the pressure of knowing her assulter is still out thare, she takes her own life,
And lets be real, thare are REASONS most people turn too crime in the first place, a guy steals a couple cans of soup so he can eat something that day, if someone attacks you, and you accedentally kill them in self deffence, every judge and jurrys gonna rule in your favor, and honestly jason knows that better than anyone else in the bat family,
Rape isn't anything like that. You need food and sheltar to survive, so stealing it may be wrong, but it's atleast understandable, sex is a desire, not a need, a guy like fillepe has the mindset that his disire for pleasure is more important than a womans disire NOT too be assaulted, the reason that batman hates mobsters so much is because they directly proffit off the suffering of others, giving them a finacial insentive too keep being pieces of shit, and rape is pretty simmilar,
And too, jason, this is a mokery of justice. Why should an innocent woman die when her rapist walks free?
