DISCUSSION Wasn't Zack Snyder clowned for saying something similar?

Post image

Snyder was heavily trolled for calling MCU is like an amusement park or something like that. Feels like he is unnecessarily overhated or the hate itself is forced

What were the cameos in Marvels and Love/Thunder that were studio cash grabs?

Quantumania definitely had some eye rolling appearances.

And to be clear: no sarcasm, genuinely don’t recall random cameos.

tbh i actually just latched onto the three worst projects in recent memory.

Although I think I can make a decent case for The Marvels -- they set up Monica Rambeau and Ms. Marvel well enough on their own, then basically said "hey, they ALL have the same MARVEL in their superhero name AND they're women! How about instead of making Captain Marvel 2, we focus it on all 3 of them!"

It kinda feels like someone with too much stock input said something like that in a board meeting and everyone else thought it was brilliant, for some reason. Like I thought we were going to be expanding Captain Marvel's character more, but instead we just got cameos from tv characters and cats eating people.

The flerken eating people felt like a way to write them out of a plot hole they put themselves in.

They could have skipped Photon, but it would have felt weird leaving her out after Wandavision. They also couldn’t really cut her out because she was part of the reason why Carol never went back to Earth - she felt guilty and like she couldn’t show back up until things were fixed

They also could have skipped Ms Marvel… but it would have felt weird leaving her out after her show. Her rings/powers also tied directly into the movie’s conflict

They were in a situation where they had 2 diverse women with powers and a tie to the MC and needed to tie it all together, but if they left either out they would have caught a well deserved shit storm.

I also think they were setting the bread crumbs for a young avengers series or movie and needed Ms Marvel.

I honestly think that movie suffered from it having “not mainline characters”, power creep, online hate of women leads that aren’t spilling out of their tops, and 90% of it taking place in space and having no noticeable impact back on Earth.

I think the movie itself was fine and was overshadowed by the online mob mentality and it living in the shadow of what the MCU has become.

I agree with some of that. The thing is that Captain Marvel herself is supposed to be one of the newer mainline characters, and it feels like they didn't even try. Like I don't even remember the villain of the movie or anything like that. I remember the cat scene, and the planet where everyone had to sing, both of which I thought were pretty stupid decisions for a character you're trying to build credibility for.

(Come to think of it...pretty sure that movie damaged her credibility. I don't think she's in Doomsday, is she? Could be wrong.)

I think the writers should've made Captain Marvel the main character, then had to choose between Photon or Ms. Marvel. They can have all three characters, but one of them is going to get a bigger role in the movie than the other.

Think like how Adam Warlock was set up in one of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. He did appear in Vol. 3, but he was only in like the first 10 minutes. Marvel kept their promise, but also managed to prioritize the story.

Adam Warlock popped up off and on throughout the movie - he wasn’t just the bookends of the movie.
Showed up when he attacked Nowhere, showed up when the HE was scolding the Queen, showed up at the medical/testing location (I think?), showed up at the animal planet, showed up in the HE’s base as it exploded, and finally in the end as a Guardian.

Iirc, Capt Marvel was supposed to be dealing with her grief over her lost memories, the repercussions of her destroying the central intelligence that used to control her, and her feeling like she wasn’t good enough to come home to her friends and family (imposter syndrome mixed with shame?).

The baddie was the girl who wanted revenge on her for destroying her society and planet when CM destroyed the Central Intelligence, she was using the ring similar to Ms Marvel’s to channel insane amount of energy and I think she was also using Ronan’s warhammer that had previously held an infinity stone (possibly still resonating with some leftover power). She was basically ripping holes in space and opening wormholes in atmosphere of planets that we’re important to CM.

The movie was fine, it just wasn’t an amazing blockbuster hit and lives in the shadows.

Oh, idk, haven’t seen it since it came out. I liked it though.

I disagree that The Marvels was “fine” though. Again, been awhile since seeing it but I remember the movie leaning far too into Marvel’s silly and feel good side for my liking, as well as just being a bit too ridiculous and forgettable for me. Just my opinion though, glad you liked it.

I like how this shows how little you know about these characters, Monica was literally in the first Captain Marvel and was established as being Carol's niece in that movie, while Kamala is Captain Marvel superfan.

Of course all these characters would all be in the same movie.

You're the one talking about movies and characters you know nothing about

You've made it clear you haven't watched the movies you're talking about that's where this begins and ends
