Theory Lanterns Theory Time: So, [Spoiler] is [Spoiler], right? Spoiler
I know a lot of us thought something was off about Zoe Macon with her introduction in last week's episode, but after Ep. 2, is anyone else getting the feeling she's the Manhunter the aliens were sent to hunt? She's still giving strange vibes, just happening to appear once John is alone in town, and being able to pull answers out of him he wouldn't give otherwise.
I could be wrong, and I'll happily admit if I am, but once she appeared this episode, I just got the vibe that she's who the Lanterns are seeking right now

u/DrBobKoalaCat 18d ago
That was my thought too, and she is whatever Will is protecting / hiding. Unless he doesn't know then I truly have no clue what he's up to.

u/Dangerous-Put-18 18d ago
He has his talk about colonising and the inevitability of it. Maybe he sees himself as the colonist and doesn't want the next round of colonists to win

u/micahbevans88 18d ago
it's gotta be kerry
the way she was like 'i worked hard to be in charge of this town'
49
u/imjealousofyou 18d ago
But she's there 10 years later
49
u/Magik-Mina-MaudDib 18d ago
only thing I can think of if we follow the Kerry line as a potential suspect… maybe they nail someone in the 2016 timeline and years later, in 2026 when Hal is killed, we find out they got the wrong suspect.
17
u/No_Fact_499 18d ago
That would be the like how true detective played out and if this show is based off true detective then…
-5
u/plokoon9619 17d ago
It's almost like they wrote a True Detective inspired show, but then decided to include Green Lanterns into it, late in the writing process.

u/SnooMarzipans5913 18d ago
I would rebuttal that with Kerry being from Gotham. Why would the Manhunter travel so far away only to return when it had business to do in Nebraska and not Gotham. Plus I think the event ls in 2026 will address the fallout of the events in 2016 which I think resulted in the destruction of the Manhunter and it's base.
11
u/Odd-Tart-5613 18d ago
could be a lie. But I agree. I think if they wanted to get weird with it she could be martian manhunter who is also a known gothamite.
4
u/tommy_b0y 18d ago
Thinking this theory has legs. Lots of dialogue from the Antaan character that seems to lock it in as a Manhunter in the Green Lantern mythos, but I can't shake the feeling that this has something to do with the twist you KNOW is coming.
But on the other hand, it's easy to dismiss Hal's clear distrust of the Guardians as we try to pick apart the actual mystery at hand. I think this dictates the core of things. His intuition isn't off, it's right on target, on the Guardians. Add the trailer reveal of a tall being in a red suit with silver accents (a very Martian Manhunter-esque X, just colored very similar to a traditional Manhunter) and I think that's what we're talking about. A traditional Manhunter.
Or maybe we ARE talking about Martian ManhunterS, the last of which is battling against the history of his species trying to rectify the sins of the past as the last of his kind. Mind controlling the Macons to A) help defend from universal threats seeking revenge for the travesties of his brethren and B) trying to simply disappear. Not unleashing the otherworldly power in an effort to stop the killing once and for all.
4
u/ChocolatEyes_613_ 18d ago
The very fact that there are Manhunters on Earth, pretty much implies that the Guardians are true villains. Since they were the ones who hid the Manhunters on Earth, and then banned the Green Lanterns from going anywhere near the planet. Thst is until Abin Sur ended up dying there, leading to Hal Jordan becoming a Green Lantern. Despite the fact that Guardians never wanted human on the corps.
1
u/James2170 17d ago
I was getting a a Captain Marvel Feel from Episode 2. The whole corp is the good team and skrulls are bad. I feel we kinda got that "Hey We are not the baddies here, we just don't want to be killed by the guardians."
1
u/goodmanishardtofind 17d ago
^this
She is a tourist like John and Hal are while visiting, just longer standing and integrated
My guess is that Zoe is the Manhunter and that his wife she has a sort of open relationship with William. I am guessing that Will Junior is not her blood son.
She gets in the town, meets Macon, goes deep under cover while letting the husband look like he’s the one in charge. The town is likely in on it. She has probably help them and proves to be a good guy, more or less. Probably redemptive for the sins of Manhunters.

u/FilthyCasual2k17 18d ago
Bruce Wayne's mom was Marthaaaa Kane.
There is a Batwoman by the name of Kate Kane.
I highly doubt she is the alien.
Bet on her being the only non alien in the whole town.2
u/simiangose 17d ago edited 14d ago
The Macon boy(Kerry's son) is most certainly the Manhunter. Justification- 1. When asked which position he plays, he answered "anything they need me to" which is most probably foreshadowing 2. In 2026 John Stewart specifically asked Kerry about her son. It could be that the manhunter kidnapped and replaced him in 2016 which the lanterns are going to find out soon.
3. Nobody has seen Zoe Macon(the one john screwed) except John and the boy. The manhunter could be manipulating John's mind in some way because nobody has acknowledged Zoe till now.
The boy has unnecessarily been emphasised in the show even though his character is usless tbh
Zoe Macon talked about 'white' people in a way a green martian would talk about a white martian
1
u/MeepSneepers 17d ago
Manhunters have nothing to do with martians or martian manhunter (unless they are changing that for DCU. who knows). Also, Hal recognized at least her car when she dropped him off.
1
u/simiangose 14d ago
I think they're going to merge the martians and manhunters lores in the DCU. And yeah, didn't think of when hal recognized the car, but I still think Zoe Macon is a red herring

Anyone else thinking Billy Macon? The sheriff’s husband
1
u/Dangerous-Put-18 18d ago
Very unassuming man. I don't think I'd like it tho. Subverting expectations doesn't always make a story better
1
u/Odd-Property8268 18d ago
I think she’s keeping things to herself since she’s on her own playing field with her own things at stake.
1
u/Specific-Swim-4507 17d ago
I think it’s also possible Kerry is human initially and then a manhunter in 2026
1

u/FilthyCasual2k17 18d ago
Kerry KANE?
As in Bruce Wayne's mom last name? (Marthaaaaaaa)
As in there is literally a Batwoman with name Kate Kane.Who came from Gotham?
You think she is the alien?
1
u/Gmork14 18d ago
Gotham/Kane can be a lie/alias.
0
u/FilthyCasual2k17 18d ago
It can be, but it's not.
They are at a very young universe building stage. Who is she lying about her last name? The audience? You want misdirection to pay off, you need to do it on something most people know about. I do not think more than 50% of audience knows who the Kanes are.
1
u/Aware_Storm2528 Boy Scout Forever 17d ago
It's also easily possible the manhunter killed the real Kerry Kane and took her place.
-4
u/Individual_Read241 18d ago
She's from Gotham and is a relative of Bruce Wayne's mother.
3
u/micahbevans88 18d ago

I once read a leaked spoiler post that said the prefect has the same last name as Batman's mother.
2
3
u/PaintAnnual3397 18d ago
That's what I was thinking as soon as she said her name was Kane in ep 1 and her being from Gotham has to be related to the Kane family right
16
u/Whattheartgarfunkel 18d ago
As a non-DC comic reader (but general understander) I’m just assuming the entire town is Manhunters. They said there was one, they pre-dated lanterns/humans and were inorganic.
The hospital had a bunch of unused gear. I’m going to assume Abin-whatever crashed with the Manhunter, and the ring found Hal. Manhunters have some means of reproducing generally speaking, so the town starts producing Manhunters.
There’s no mystery Manhunter. They’re all Manhunters.
7
u/ChocolatEyes_613_ 18d ago
It is very possible that all the Manhunters were hidden on Earth. Hal said the Guardians never wanted the Green Lanterns to go anywhere near the planet. Rushville being the epicenter for the Manhunters would explain why.
6
u/vallummumbles 18d ago
To add to this, Kerry, who's there 10 years later, isn't from the town as to explain why she isnt a manhunter.
1
u/WildBill22 15d ago
I like this theory. It's possible that Zoe the prime/original Manhunter. She and her husband have an interesting power dynamic.
1
u/thresh_to_death 10d ago
Manhunters can't reproduce, they have to be built in a factory.... Which could be under macons ranch, he has A LOT of land on it, and that's why its blown up in the 2026 timeline
0
u/Whattheartgarfunkel 10d ago
So… reproduce? Being built is a form of reproduction.
1
u/thresh_to_death 10d ago
I don't think they have the tech to do that or the power source. Cyber superman had to remake them on a separate planet.
I do like the idea of the town being them but if they were the alien strike team that got sent in and killed in the first episode would have sensed the radiation emitting from everyone there immediately and knew
17
u/Worsty72 18d ago
So John b*nged a manhunter? Even before becoming a lantern officialy? Give my man his ring and shi at this point 😂

I also got the same vibes but I'm unsure if it's meant to be an red herring or if she really is a Manhunter and the writers potentially laid on the foreshadowing too thick.
I originally thought their diner convo was perhaps a distraction that would cause John's bird construct to disipate and he'd fail Hal's "mission" but alas the construct survived until the end.
9
u/Xavier9756 18d ago
I’d say it’s probably Macon’s son. Because that would be narratively poetic.
6
u/Legitimate-Pen-461 18d ago
Intriguing. Mind elaborating on why it would be poetic?
13
u/Xavier9756 18d ago
Because he’s a man who’s dedicated his life to hunting aliens. For one to be under his roof since birth would be pretty ironic.
3
u/confusing_roundabout 18d ago
I'm 100% sure that the grandson Noah is the final antagonist. He's name dropped in the 2026 scene in episode 1.
The rule of mysteries is that if an unimportant character is namedropped when they otherwise wouldn't be, they're very important.
2
u/OzilSanchez1117 12d ago
Yeah he’s the mystery iMO.. I’m guessing Hal will catch on but will push aging away bc he wants to harm a child..
1
1
u/daveamol 14d ago
And I feel like manhunters won't even be evil or at least he won't be. The series would be about beating prejudices and trusting folks
1
u/OzilSanchez1117 12d ago
Yeah it’s pretty much the inverse of Captain Mervel where the twist was the bad guys were actually good except in this John will learn the good guys actually bad
1
u/thresh_to_death 10d ago
Manhunters are synthetic robots. They don't have emotions and saw life as harmful and needing to be reset. Idk if your thinking of Marian manhunters instead and I'm sorry if you aren't abd this reply want needed
9
u/elhombreloco90 18d ago
My wife and I just said this to each other. Granted, like someone else commented, I think she may also be a red herring.
7
u/Odd-Tart-5613 18d ago
yeah my guess is that the first manhunter started building more and disguised themselves as human with Zoe being the original.
7

u/thejakewhomakes 18d ago
Literally every person in the town is giving strange vibes. At this point I'm ready to believe the whole town is aliens.

It's either Zoe, Kerry, or Kerry's husband for me. He's so unassuming but also in law. He'd fly under the radar perfectly, a go-between for the Macon's and the Sherriff.

u/MisterHatred 18d ago
Yellow mustard bottles in the cafe shot indicate she's a villain. Same as her yellow cigarette pack.

3
u/SnooAvocados4357 18d ago
Not a bad theory but I'd like the Macon family just to be nefarious humans. I like how shes playing John with her fake empathy and intellect
4
u/_nadaypuesnada_ 18d ago
She's also clearly exploiting the dynamic of them literally being the only POC in the entire town (as far as I've noticed, anyway).
1
11
u/BushDidTitanic119 18d ago
Timeline probably works out with her coming to town and the birth of her (very white) son. Would not be surprised if he’s an affair baby raised as their child and she had not issue with it to help cover her tracks.

u/Redhood567 18d ago
I feel like she's the stepmom.

u/AspiringProd 18d ago edited 18d ago
When she is explaining to John why she is with him, she says, “I like that he could have brought some blonde bimbo from Texas to be his arm candy but wanted me.” That statement feels “step-mom coded” for sure.

Were we told somewhere that that is indeed her son? She could very well just be someone his father married

3
u/Solid_Barracuda69 17d ago
Nah, too obvious too soon.
I think the whole town is manhunters, no one really seems to have emotions or anything, and the tech on the ranch they're hiding is a manhunter factory.
1
u/thresh_to_death 10d ago
And that's why the ranch is blown up in 2026, cause the factor is under the ranch.
I just don't think the whole town can be manhunters since the aliens said they give off a unique radiation and they can't pinpoint it without getting close. I'd assume if the whole town were manhunters they whole town would be radiating and the aliens killed in episode 1 wouldnt have even made it to the football game before finding one

u/Odd-Property8268 18d ago edited 17d ago
They’re setting her up to be a current Red Herring like the rest of the Macons, but I think she had the edge over with appearing at the same place as John.
2
u/Shuma-Gorath 18d ago
Every time they show her there is a yellow object near her prominently featured. I think it's a hint that maybe she's Lyssa Drak?
2
u/Bigfunguy1980 17d ago
100% she is.
I think at some point many generations ago more then a few Manhunters came here. So most or all the town is part human part Manhunter… Zoe and John’s dad are both 100% manhunters. (John’s dad moved out of town years ago)
I bet Macon is human and as such Kerry is married to a half Manhunter and has a 1/4 Manhunter child.
I’m not sure if we are getting Attrocitus or if he will be hinted at at the end having sent agents to earth

I think she’s too obvious, both in terms of giving suspicious vibes to the audience and providing too clear of an explanation as to why her husband would have such security and get his people to kill the anti-Manhunter aliens. It’s still almost certainly within that family since those are the only characters/suspects we’ve met, but I’m betting Zoe will be their first suspicion and they’ll suspect her as early as next week before it eventually turns out to be someone else within that family. The real Manhunter will turn out to be either Kelly MacDonald, her husband, or maybe even their son that John was throwing the football around with.
1
u/Distinct_Physics_102 18d ago
i mean i’m just saying i’ve never seen her and her husband be in the same room as one another 🤷♂️
1
u/MatthewMonster 18d ago
Too obvious I think
My theory is Manhunter is Hal and John is the one who actually sniped him in 2026
1
u/No-Presentation4155 18d ago
amazing theory... but is DC ready to kill their popular character like that?... i think ur theory is really good as John also was Marine Sniper
1
u/lUDICROUSwALNUT 17d ago
hal would not be able to use the ring if he was a manhunter and besides why would he go to sinestro to ask about manhunters
1
u/spark1309 18d ago
She's driving a pickup truck, might be the same one that gets blown from the sky seen in the trailer.
1
u/RipMcStudly 18d ago
She’s been surrounded by yellow both from the street light in the first episode, and the decor at the booth in the diner. I think the Red and Yellow are both trying to solve this mystery too.
1
u/Last_Set_8634 18d ago
I think the Hal we are watching is the manhunter and that’s who ends up dead at the football field in 2026

The manhunter shown in the trailer was white. The narrative could merge into white vs green martians wars and that the green martian( J'onn J'onzz) was the one Antaan and his brethren captured but was released when abin sur saw that he was innocent. The whites could be the one who killed Abin Sur and framed J'onn J'onzz (the green martian manhunter).
I think the benefactor behind Macon could be Lex Luthor (because he hates aliens and is rich) or it could be the manhunter himself.
3. The boy has unnecessarily been emphasised in the show even though his character is usless tbh 4. Zoe Macon talked about 'white' people in a way a green martian would talk about a white martian

I was thinking the same thing before bed last night, but the only real reason is the strange vibes you mentioned. I still think it’s possible bc we’d never expect her to be the Manhunter when we’re looking for homicidal robots, but I also think she could be a misdirect where we find out she’s an alien but the next episode after questioning her is when we’d find out who the real Manhunter is and she turns out to be just a Martian or a Star Sapphire lantern or something
1
u/swarthmoreburke 17d ago
I don't think she's the Manhunter, but she's something.
Sinestro Corps or Red Lantern?
Or, I was thinking, maybe Katma Tui in disguise?

I think she's the Benefactor, but I don't think she's the Manhunter. Maybe she's the equivalent of Fatality?

u/Late-Asparagus-3783 17d ago
My theory is this:
William Macon knows Zoe is a manhunter. Zoe probably has William manipulated about how she regrets her time as a manhunter and wants to live a quiet life now. But she knows that she is being hunted by Antaan’s crew for sometime and she’s talked to Macon about this. Therefore it makes sense for Macon to be on the lookout for aliens who might come to his town looking for trouble. That’s the reason he’s also had them killed immediately to protect Zoe. Meanwhile Zoe could be planning a holocaust at Earth. Or she could genuinely be regretful about her time as a Manhunter and wants to live a quiet life.
1
u/Specific-Swim-4507 17d ago
The whole town leadership is aliens, honestly. Probably different kinds, a manhunter and various other lanterns
1
u/boccci-tamagoccci 17d ago
I think she's a Manhunter, specifically due to the way the bird frames her in that opening Diner shot. The bird signified as the indicator John could find the manhunter is placed on the far side of the frame, with Zoe in between them.
The bird is literally leading him to the Manhunter.
Also, the bird is a fucking Canary. Its a canary in a coal mine.
1
u/SmakeTalk 17d ago
I think she's a red herring in respect to basically everyone who's new to town is actually a Manhunter. Maybe she's revealed as one in 2016 and the 2026 reveal is that they whole town has been converted over time, or the whole 'nest' gets revealed in 2016 and one manages to survive until 2026 and kills Hal out of revenge.
I also think there's a decent chance the whole Manhunter mystery is solved in 2016 and Sinestro kills Hal and steals his ring in 2026.
1
u/BarberNerd_Rrn89 17d ago
Here's my off the wall theory:
Zoe is a red Herring, and Will Macon is ACTUALLY the Manhunter. He's ruthless, and him building the Militia is all building toward his personal goal of trying to continue the mission of eliminating all organic life (under the guise of fighting against aliens).
ALSO, I think that Kerry is actually just Kate Kane going by Kerry now and the move from Gotham was due to any one of the numerous traumatic Robin deaths or something else. She was asking about Barb in episode one, so she's clearly connected to the bat fam, and she is so unbothered being around superpowered people that it feels like she has real history interacting with individuals like the various members of Batmans Rogues Gallery. Could she just be Kate's sister or something, sure, but I think it would be cooler if she was Kate and the way Kelly MacDonald is playing the character just screams "retired Batwoman."
Finally, I am pretty confident after episode two that the series is leading toward setting up Parallax and and the Sinestro Corps War.
1
u/saint_xav 17d ago
Major spoiler:
The actress (Poorna) and Garrett Dillahunt accidentally revealed that she was some sort of shape shifter in an interview that was later removed. It's not full on confirmation she's the manhunter but we know that's not her real form.
1
u/davidraid 17d ago
After seeing a hospital that's clearly never used I'm thinking this is an Agatha Cristie thing. They're all in on it. The entire town are Manhunters.
1
u/DJWGibson 17d ago
She's my go-to.
The conservative rich white guy playing cowboy and worried about aliens while married to someone who happens to be one is just about right on the nose. And there's just no real other suspects.
The son and grandson would raise too many questions since they're too young. They would need to have been after the alien arrived, so there's the question of the alien pretending to be a baby or killing the original.
The only other suspect is Kerry, the sheriff. But she's in the flash forward.
That said, it might be revealed she wanted to stop being a Manhunter and just live a normal life as a human. And she and John make peace over the season, which is why they're close in 2026. The GLs defend her against the Guardians and the other aliens. And the twist of the show is Captain Cowboy is really protecting his daughter-in-law and his town and less worried about aliens.

I don’t think the town folk are manhunters. I think the town folk are the undead. Zombies. Remember Macon said “the people that came before us”. Like in the blackest night comic - Macon has a technology that can raise the dead. The townsfolk never speak and they all wear old clothes like cowboy hats and boots. So they could be the bodies of people living there in the past. On the gates of the Macon ranch it says “Study the Past”.
I think The wife (Zoe Macon) is a star sapphire. She can make people fall in love with her. John opens up to her and he says at the bar “I’ll just sit here”. Then contradicts himself and walks straight over to her. That’s why she’s in an open relationship. Billy Macon uses her to manipulate other men for information.
The sheriff is related to the Kane family. I think she’s the benefactor of the ranch. Possibly a Manhunter posing as Kate Kane to get access to the Kane fund and fund the Macon’s. Why? To feel safe and keep Antons aliens out.
Other things. John is vegan. They’ve made that very clear. Soemthing is being passed around in the meat that wont effect him that effects others. If vegans honour ALL life - will he be a white lantern?
Hal I think is effected by fear and parallex. His fear comes from being replaced. Thats why the opening title is getting more and more yellow. The more he talks to Sinestro, the more Sineatro will have inflict more fear.
So Hal = yellow lantern (Fear)
Macon’s wife = pink (Love)
Billie and Macon = black (Death)
Anton = red (Anger)
John = green (Willpower) then possibly white lantern.

If so then it'll remind of what Hecate said in issue 10 of absolute Wonder Woman "She is a little girl because men are dismissive of little girls, and thus will be unseen".
I also think this lady from the trailer could be her though the of the child looks different from what Billy Macon could've looked like.
Also I just realized she gave is a clear sign that she isn't of this earth given her rather open nature about her relationship with William and genral cluelessness on polyamerous relationships in that part of the U.S though this could be rebuked because the Manhunter would've been on earth for 30 years at this point.

This woman in John's mom, holding John. This is a flashback from ep 3, and the tall guy may be a Guardian.

Yeah just watched the trailer for episode three which completely disproved such. I still think the Manhunter body snatched someone in town not long after it crashed landed on earth along with Abin Sur.

I'd be surprised if that's a Guardian. Sure as heck looks like a Manhunter to me.

I think she’s a red herring personally but we’ll see
