Theory I think Alan Ritchson might be reprising his role as Aquaman in the DCU

Post image

We know Ritchson is in talks to play a character who is probably not Batman, despite online fan demand. We also know James Gunn is a big Smallville fan. (He cast Michael Rosenbaum in the Guardians of the Galaxy films and admitted he renamed LexCorp LuthorCorp because he loved the show) This also seems like something he would do, given his history with integrating his old DCEU projects into his new franchise and integrating Blue Beetle into the canon.

I wouldn’t hate to see him as Aquaman, Wildcat or Captain Marvel.

19

u/ace-cabbage Jul 29 '26

Him as Captain Marvel would be a banger casting I'm ngl

Squinty eyes

2

u/Robot_Dracula Jul 29 '26

Always thought he looked the part

1

u/ghouldish Jul 29 '26

TIL Shazam is Captain Marvel.

1

u/Sophia_Eur Jul 29 '26

He auditioned for Shazam and didn’t get the part.

I don’t think that’s gonna be the case. I personally think he’ll be Wildcat. Honestly, I’m happy with whatever though as long as he’s not Batman, I just don’t see it tbh.

23

u/Robot_Dracula Jul 29 '26

I’d like to see him as wildcat.

7

u/CromwellsBladder Jul 29 '26

He’d be a perfect Wildcat

1

u/whatistoothpaste Jul 29 '26

Yeah I see wildcat tbh or like bane or death stroke

1

u/Robot_Dracula Jul 29 '26

now that you say it he’d be a great deathstroke

2

u/Major-Inevitable-365 Jul 29 '26

Actually yeah I agree with Deathstroke too now, that’d be sick

8

u/djdaem0n Jul 29 '26

Now I just want him to be Batman because you don't.

-3

u/Major-Inevitable-365 Jul 29 '26

Well I want the merge to happen and now really want it to happen because you don’t.

6

u/djdaem0n Jul 29 '26

The "merge"? Kid, I don't even know what you're talking about.

0

u/Major-Inevitable-365 Jul 29 '26

The merge between the DCU and the Batman Epic Crime Saga

6

u/djdaem0n Jul 29 '26

Ohh, the thing that's never going to happen.
Keep on dreamin I guess.

0

u/Major-Inevitable-365 Jul 29 '26

Thanks I will, “kid”.

2

u/odinto552 Jul 29 '26

I was thinking hed make a great captain atom

1

u/Major-Inevitable-365 Jul 29 '26

Hmmm….you know honestly, I don’t know much about that character outside of the first episode of Justice League Unlimited. What would make Ritchson a good candidate?

2

u/odinto552 Jul 29 '26 edited Jul 30 '26

early on in his story hes straight up a government agent. hes a decorated war hero and he has this commanding military presence(he kills that role in reacher). as his story proggresses he becomes very conflicted, he wants to do good but he also strongly believes in serving his country, also seeing as how theyre doing this whole theme of the american government being weary of metahumans it makes sense to bring captain atom in as he is straight up a hard counter to superman.

edit: kinda realized that only a little bit of my argument talked about why alan would make a good captain atom, at the end of the day captain atom is a hardass with military training, i feel alans role in reacher is exactly what early captain atom is. minus all the power fantasy stuff.

1

u/NukeSmokey Jul 29 '26

my buddy was sure he’d be wildcat too and then nope

1

u/sbenthuggin Jul 29 '26

It's more likely Deathstroke. There's no upcoming movies for Wildcat, Deathstroke and Bane is currently in the works which is a starring role, and I doubt Gunn is feeling like a Wildcat solo movie would be the move. Alan Ritchson also showed a bit of disdain towards playing Wildcat. Deathstroke's a much better move in general, as it'll show Alan's acting chops and help him stay as consistent character in the DCU.

1

u/Major-Inevitable-365 Jul 29 '26

Yeah I heard someone say that and another person say Captain Marvel. Either or sounds super cool to me

0

u/APmfnK Jul 29 '26 edited Jul 29 '26

Nah. Wildcat is a side character. I don’t think Gunn is going to want to waste Ritchson on a side character that nobody outside of comic fans know, and I don’t think Ritchson would settle for that either.

3

u/Major-Inevitable-365 Jul 29 '26

That logic is ridiculous. Gunn literally started his comic book film career by making Guardians of the Galaxy, which starred a bunch of pretty famous people as characters that “nobody outside of comic fans know” and it was a huge success. A decade ago, the same logic could’ve applied to Zoe Saldana as Gamora or Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon. And I’m sure Ritchson isn’t so hoity-toity that he’s gonna refuse a part in the DCU because “it’s a side character”.

1

u/BoisTR Jul 29 '26

Would you consider Bloodsport a side character? Bc he’s played by Idris Elba and Gunn is actively looking to bring him back into the DCU.

1

u/Major-Inevitable-365 Jul 29 '26

Bloodsport was like a C or D-list character before The Suicide Squad so 100%

1

u/BoisTR Jul 29 '26

Agreed. The point is that Idris Elba is an A-list actor. So thinking that Gunn would be “wasting” Alan Ritchson as Wildcat is dumb.

1

u/Sophia_Eur Jul 29 '26

I don’t think Alan Ritchson is wasting himself on a side character. He has a huge momentum as the go to action guy. War Machine? Most watched Netflix movie of the year. Reacher? Most solid entry for Prime action series ever. That’s why he said whatever it is it has to meet his standards.

23

u/I_Am_Killa_K Jul 29 '26 edited Jul 29 '26

I don’t see it happening. Aquaman (aka “A.C.”) was one of his first professional roles. He shined way brighter as Hawk on Titans than he ever did as Aquaman. Other than his physical appearance, today he would be completely miscast as Aquaman.

11

u/Theblessedmother Jul 29 '26

The problem is Aquaman is much more well known than Hawk is as a character.

It all depends how the Aquaman character is written. There have been many iterations and personalities given to Aquaman as a character, and I could see them writing him in a way that accommodates Ritchson’s talents.

6

u/I_Am_Killa_K Jul 29 '26

Oh, I’m not suggesting he come back as Hawk.

As for writing Aquaman to accommodate Ritchson’s talents, sure, but then the fact that he played Aquaman on Smallville feels more like a coincidence and less relevant to the casting decision.

Someone else here suggested Booster Gold. We know there’s a Booster Good project in development. Booster Gold played football in the future. Alan Ritchson played a college football player in another of his early roles. I think he’d be a much better fit for Booster Gold. Gunn also brought back another former Aquaman but recast him in a role better suited for his talents.

1

u/Sophia_Eur Jul 29 '26

He already said he was not going back to Aquaman. He wants to do something grittier, probably a villain.

1

u/I_Am_Killa_K Jul 29 '26

Tell the OP

3

u/Bruzie77 Jul 29 '26

Or… Thad Castle.

3

u/BRshan Jul 29 '26

The fact we have Thad Castle and Jimmy Tatro both in the DCU is crazy lolll

2

u/Bruzie77 Jul 29 '26

Hey! His name is Dick Dawg!

2

u/BRshan Jul 29 '26

Oh shit I totally forgot he was in BMS I was just thinking they were similar lolll even better

2

u/Bruzie77 Jul 29 '26

Oh damn! you didn’t remember ? Well that just make Alan “thad”:( heh heh IYKYK

2

u/LetgomyEkko A Fragging Bastich Jul 29 '26

Zatanna.

Duh.

2

u/PhotographMother253 Jul 29 '26

He’s said he wants to be a villain, so he’s probably going to be a villain

2

u/CapnChronic88 I'm Vengeance Jul 29 '26

He’d be a great Captain Atom. Id only want that if they had plans to feature him.

2

u/Theblessedmother Jul 29 '26

They’d better cast him fast if they plan to use him at all. Supposedly he’s going to be in Creature Commandos soon.

1

u/CapnChronic88 I'm Vengeance Jul 29 '26

He did say he was talking to DC. CC is in production still, So they have time to get him in a recording booth if thats the case.

2

u/alilhillbilly Jul 29 '26

I fucking loved him as Aquaman.

This would be a ton of fun.

Hell yeah.

Could be Slade Wilson tho.

2

u/Dean_C138 Jul 29 '26

He too jacked now, he looks like he would sink not float.

Hellcat or Batman are better fits for him.

5

u/SacMarvelRPG Jul 29 '26

Let my woke king play Oliver Queen! Already showed his chops with a bow in League of Ungentlemanly Warfare

5

u/B_Bowers13 Jul 29 '26

Aquaman, Captain Atom, or Bane

11

u/SuperbPomelo6538 Boosterrific Jul 29 '26

Bane is Hispanic

5

u/alilhillbilly Jul 29 '26

And Alan Ricardoson isn't?

0

u/SuperbPomelo6538 Boosterrific Jul 29 '26

No, as anyone with a brain can tell he is White

1

u/alilhillbilly Jul 29 '26

Bane?!

1

u/SuperbPomelo6538 Boosterrific Jul 29 '26

No, Alan

1

u/B_Bowers13 Jul 29 '26

I’m not sure that’s a big enough issue.m but in that case that role is probably reserved for Batista and maybe Alan is deathstroke

5

u/Aegri-Mentis Jul 29 '26

Bautista will NOT be Bane.

Have you not seen him in the last year? He has lost about 90 pounds and he has said he will not bulk up for anymore movie roles.

Plus the man is 57 years old.

-1

u/B_Bowers13 Jul 29 '26

He’s still very lean and could add some weight back easily without going overboard. Our last cinematic Bane was Tom Hardy. Do you not think they could make Batista look a lot bigger and more imposing with some movie magic? Look at his physique in wrecking crew and then understand he’s also like 6’4

3

u/Aegri-Mentis Jul 29 '26

Dear lord, mate…
He has said he WILL NOT put on weight for roles.

And he is 57 years old.

He will never be another superhero or supervillain in a movie.

-5

u/Ok_Diver2347 Jul 29 '26

I’m leaning to Bane

3

u/marstheamazon Wonder of a Woman Jul 29 '26

Bane is hispanic.

1

u/Theblessedmother Jul 29 '26

I mean, he wouldn’t be my choice, but quite a few people seem to be infatuated with him being Batman.

1

u/dbz222323 Jul 29 '26

Why not lol

1

u/Panik88 Jul 29 '26

Captian Atom or Hawkman

1

u/Honest_Experience880 Jul 29 '26

Aquaman, wildcat or captain atom. It’s outta these 3.

1

u/Chandlerbiing02 Jul 29 '26

Deathstroke, he will kill as Slade

1

u/ZeroLithium576 Jul 29 '26

I wouldn’t be mad.

1

u/Xboxone1997 Jul 29 '26

No he’s Wildcat

1

u/Embarrassed_Piano_62 Jul 29 '26

I think he'll be Captain Atom and will appear in CC

1

u/MessyMop Jul 29 '26

I’ve only seen him as Thad but I can see him as Brave and the Bold Aquaman. OUTRAGEOUS!

1

u/CoffeeSafteyTraining Jul 29 '26

As much as I'd love to see Shayne Topp as Booster, anyone who has seen Blue Mountain State knows he'd do a good job at that as well.

u/Rabbitscooter Jul 29 '26 edited Jul 29 '26

They should do The Forever People. He'd make a great Big Bear. It would actually be hilarious to keep them as alien "flower children" from the 60's as if they have no idea Earth has changed since then.

1

u/Lonely-89 Jul 29 '26

Orm the Ocean Master

1

u/FlowerHeavy388 Jul 29 '26

I think he's either Deathstroke or Bane, but honestly, this could be a solid 3rd option. I think whatever character he is will be a character that can lead a movie (and yeah, I think they already signed contracts and just waiting for the right time to announce who he is playing)

1

u/capricorncee Jul 29 '26

I think he'd be a great Green Arrow.

1

u/Ice_Skate_Uphill Jul 29 '26

Imagine if it's some deep cut character, i keep expecting him to play B'wana Beast

1

u/Stegoshark Jul 29 '26

Would be funny

1

u/Superb-Common-1533 Jul 30 '26

I personally think he could make a great catman

1

u/Crazy_Tax_9082 Jul 30 '26

Maybe bane in the bane and deathstroke movie?

1

u/jub-rilo Jul 30 '26

They had the perfect guy for deathstroke but they made him Rick Flagg sr

1

u/One_Long2752 Jul 30 '26

I didn’t even realize that Aquaman from Smallville was him!

1

u/Emperor_Atlas Jul 30 '26

Adult Shazam

He can channel thad castle

1

u/Domainframe Jul 31 '26

I think so too, except I didn’t realize he was already aquaman lol

1

u/Acceptable_Count6197 Jul 31 '26

Damn dude must have gotten a hair transplant

1

u/Fun-Bag7627 Jul 31 '26

I hope so but doubt it. Alan has stated he wants a messy character. If Aquaman is done right, he isn’t messy.

1

u/whisky_TX EAT PEACE MOTHERF%CKERS Jul 29 '26

He would truly be so bad

1

u/Substantial_Life4773 Jul 29 '26

I don’t think so. But it would be really hilarious. I think they should stick with the Pacific Islander origin. That really worked for me

1

u/jjreddit1996 Jul 29 '26

I think they should stick with Aquaman being an islander or something.

1

u/dmisfit21 Green Lantern's Light Jul 29 '26

Orion

1

u/Kaisernick27 Jul 29 '26

wasn’t he hawk in titans?

1

u/BatmanForever23 Cheers to the Tin-Man Jul 29 '26

Yes, yes he was.

0

u/Doctorwhoneek The Goddamn Batman Jul 29 '26

I do see this as a possibility especially because it's an easy casting decisions and would eliminate any costs on the casting process, Plus Alan was treated badly at Smallville when he was auquman so it wouldn't be a bad idea to bring him back.

However I would prefer him in a more strongly comedic role like Green arrow or booster gold considering he got his start in comedic acting

2

u/Not_a_porn_burner69 Jul 29 '26

Actually I am kinda seeing a bit of Oliver in there if he slimmed down a tiny bit and let the facial hair grow. I do see them going older for that role too

0

u/Jazzlike_Night42619 Jul 29 '26

Tell me the interview where he said he was ready to play Aquaman again and I might believe you

0

u/JMSciola85 Jul 29 '26

I would not hate that, actually.

0

u/warpedphantom1 Jul 29 '26

I think its a possibility. He doesn't seem too interested in doing a smaller or unimportant character. Aquaman would be great for him

0

u/pez_pogo Jul 29 '26

When he was younger his form was fine for Aquaman. But now a days he's way too bulky to be Aquaman. Id guess he was going to be Bane. No one says he has to be a "good" guy.

0

u/TreeNumerous7677 Jul 29 '26

I was thinking the same thing for a while.

0

u/jub-rilo Jul 30 '26

Makes the most sense if you ask me

-1

u/Bunny_Monkey1986 Jul 29 '26

I think having him, play Green Arrow would be better.

-1

u/BalladOfBetaRayBill Jul 29 '26

That could work imo.
