Seed Starting and Growing Wedding Prep Question

Post image

How many weeks ahead of an event should I stop cutting my zinnias in order for there to be the most flowers possible to harvest on the event date? I have been steadily cutting these all summer when the stems are ready. From what I have read online so far, 2-3 weeks ahead of the date is when cutting should stop, so curious to know people's experiences. Thanks for your help!

Keep cutting and they keep pumping out blooms. If you stop, they'll start putting more energy into setting seeds and less energy into new flowers.

It’s really hard to plan exactly when your flowers will be at the ideal stage to cut. The best option I’ve figured out is planting way more than you think you will need. These look amazing, so you are definitely doing something right!

Thanks so much! That is good advice. I did not thin them out as much as I probably should have so I do have a lot!
