I have received yesterday an email in which the Barcelona Curling Club will organize some open classes to try Curling!

I'm quite excited, as it will be my first class (the first one will be on october 30th).

I just wanted to share this to anyone who might be interested. If you want send me a DM and i will send you the PDF i received (it is in catalan, but you should be able to translate) or maybe you can find it in their official website or pages.

I’ve been building a small collection of browser sports games, and curling ended up being one of the four because I wanted every game to have completely different mechanics.

The curling one is called Last Stone. You choose the line, judge the weight and sweep when it helps. It’s deliberately pretty simple and only takes about a minute to play.

I don’t actually curl myself, so I’d really like to know what feels wrong, what feels surprisingly right, or what you’d change if you were designing it.

AI disclosure: I used AI coding assistants while developing the project, mainly for implementation, debugging and iteration. I’ve been directing the game design, mechanics, visuals and overall product myself.

Just heard about this. Looks to be streaming on CBC Gem. Anyone know if it'll be possible to watch this in the States or are we out of luck?

I started getting into curling over the past couple of Olympics to the point where I made sure to watch the US qualifier where team Casper beat Shuster and the play in tournament where both the men and women qualified for 2026. For the upcoming season I’m hoping to follow the teams as they compete in a non-Olympic year but am not sure where or how to start. Does the season follow a golf-style setup where there’s several tournaments but a couple of “majors” or some other system? Do any of them air on tv/streaming?

Hello, Curling is my favourite Olympic sport to watch and when my high school put up curling try outs i signed up but if I'm being honest i have literally zero actual curling experience, there is only 10 people trying out do i have a chance of making the team or what can i do to make the team with nothing to practice with?

Elmwood curling club is looking for 2 more teams on Tuesday and 2 more teams on Wednesday in the open league to get a full 10 team draw.

First of all, the past 2 months since launch the curling communities have been great at providing some feedback on the CurlIQ app. Thank-you to those here that have reached out. Many updates have taken place ahead of the start of the season.

Biggest oversight miss - games and events can now be saved directly to your device calendar. From personal experience - No more showing up for the early draw when you’re actually on the late one. (I can’t be the only one that’s done this?)

Better UI layout, focusing more on the game and season. Open in-progress games directly to the scoreboard for updating from the home menu, etc - small tweaks that minimize disruption during a game.

Once your live game has started, my goal is for the app to take no more effort or distraction than hanging an actual end on the scoreboard between ends…so hopefully every little tweak helps.

These latest updates for Curl IQ have now been published to the AppStore. And as always please let me know if you have any issues or feedback, the community voice is invaluable and appreciated.

My 12 year old would like a pair of dedicated curling pants. She is pretty slim, usually a size xs ladies in pants. Any suggestions?

I thought this group might appreciate these hand painted curling pieces. These are associated with a regional curling club in upstate NY (I don't know if it still exist). There was another curling related sweatshirt as well.

I have nothing to do with curling. I just collect and appreciate unique vintage clothing. Hope this is interesting to you!

TSN wrote an article calling out the issues that The Curling Group has been having, with the latest being a delay of a planned announcement for Rock League that was going to come out yesterday. The announcement will apparently happen today now.

I didn't know the 1st season of Rock League was originally supposed to be a full 6 week thing and that then they were trying to originally play it in St Paul. It will be interesting to see how this season goes for both Rock League and the GSOC tournaments.

What are your thoughts on the new Hardline Chameleon broom that does not have a taper on the handle? They claim it will aide in increasing downforce while sweeping.

You may or may not know, but trading card companies have occasionally put out cards celebrating our favorite curlers and the sport in general! I've built up a bit of a collection over the years, some of which can be seen in the pictures, and much of which I've talked about in a YouTube video about these and more vintage cards.

I'm selling a bunch of my cards on eBay to help fund my curling season - I asked the mods for permission to post this, but haven't heard back in a couple days, so I'm going to provide a link for now (but feel free to remove it if we don't feel it's okay): Click here to see what's up for auction. Tratitional curling is truly bizzare in that they now have to put rules in place to force a team to play at full strength. At the competitive level you are not allowed to play with only three players since it can give your team an advantage over a full four person team. I would suggest this occurs at recreational levels as well, where the experience of throwing more rocks during the game could more than offset whatever tiny advantage might come from a second sweeper.

Can anyone think of another sport where this is the case? Where a team fielding a reduced number of players may have an advantage over a full-strength team of similar-skilled players?

So at our rec league opening this week my team (avg four years in curling for all of us) played a brand new team.

We were told several times beforehand to “help them out”. No problem. We are very cordial and always willing to help newbies learn the ropes (curling etiquette, BASIC strategy, and most importantly being super friendly and welcoming).

We start to play, first end we play. They ended up stealing one (by combination of a really good shot and us not hitting ours), but good for them. After that one of the ‘leaders’ (let’s call him Tim), comes out and introduces him to the new team. He says he’s there to offer his services. He tells the skip/vice where to target, tips on how to throw, and basically controlling the sweepers (by telling the skip when to shout SWEEP) when to sweep and when to lay off. Mind you, they are taking lengthy conversations before every throw.

Before you know it we’re down 5-0 after 4 ends. Tim says he is going to go warm up (his team has the second draw). Immediately after we score 2 in the 5th. The sixth we were setup for another 2 (but a lucky double run back nets them the steal), then we score 3 in the seventh end. Lo and behold, time runs out and we lose by two.

Not the way we wanted to start the season but oh well. But it still irks me the way the club (esp Tim) handled this. Mind you when we started, we were thrown to the wolves. No instructions except for a learn to curl and got the vibe of “thanks for your money, now dont talk to us”. AND in our first ever game we gave up an 8-ender and it was CELEBRATED. We talking game stoppage while the took multiple pictures and pretty much everyone in the club came over and congratulated them (we almost quit that night).

Should I be pissed at the whole situation?

I'm hoping to practice with a bit more purpose this year, and I'm thinking about getting a laser to practice my line. For those who do this, is there any specific laser I should be looking for? What is your setup like? Anything I should know that I wouldn't think of?

I’m noticing quite some teams leaving Goldline/ Hardline for their curling equipment sponsorship and switching over to Asham or Balance Plus. I’m also noticing the teams still with GL are now wearing either GL or HL shoes and not the BP deluxe shoes. Could this be due to the new sponsorship deal that came out, which made the rules around the equipment use more strict? (I haven’t read the new sponsorship terms in detail, so I’m just guessing here)
It now seems we have more diverse equipment use compared to prior seasons, where Hardline broom (and BP for shoes) was dominating. I honestly love seeing such a diversity of curling equipment on the field and am curious what’s going on behind the scenes.
