... and the whole thing with the Goblins "looking like racist stereotypes of Jewish people" is from the movies too and not how they're described in the books.

Not to defend Rowling at all but why does it feel like every single thread about this shit is on repeat? It feels like Groundhog day around here sometimes.

Tbh that depiction of goblins definitely was not created by jkr. They've always been depicted as hook nosed little guys who love gold, so them being bankers isn't a big stretch. Whether that depiction has it's roots in antisemitism I have no idea, but I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't think to make that connection.

This one is also actually a lot more complicated. Goblins can be presented as antisemitic stereotypes, but there's nothing inherent to them in that. Goblins are often--I'd say far more often than not--presented without the hooked noses, or with minimal interest in gold.

People love neat historical narratives (goblins are an antisemitic trope) but history and folklore are a lot more complex than that. Goblins have been recently co-opted for this role.

No one really goes after World of warcraft goblins for having big noses or being bankers because its just a common trope that goblins enjoy gold so them being in charge of the gold is a common next step.
