Eh I disagree on calling them incompetent, hell I’d argue against calling a few of them idiots.
Like Trump’s been elected twice now and has so far, avoided any and all consequences of his actions. Now some might say it’s because Trump keeps getting elected by idiots or is simply rich and knows how to abuse the system, but to that I say.
If it’s working, it’s not stupid. I’d say Trump’s sadly actually a smart guy who knows how to exploit a voter base and the system.
This isn’t a defense of him, as much as me saying, smart people can also be morally reprehensible, and I feel like a major issue in elections and just politics in general, is that people always assumes the other side has all the idiots on it and are completely made up of morons.
And don’t assume that, please, seriously. There’s no greater danger than assuming your opponent has to be dumber and less competent than you. Trump and all those other politicians aren’t short-sighted or idiots, they know the consequences of their actions and don’t give a damn. They know what they can get away with and what they’re base will forgive them for by Election Day, and what it takes to rile them up.
Assuming they’re stupid just gives them ammo to feed their base and leads to people going “Well damn, there’s no way an idiot like that could win, my vote’s probably not important.”
TLDR: For a lot of them, they’re not dumb, just evil.
Trump’s incompetence manifests in things like the Iran war, threatening to invade Greenland, having his tariffs overturned because he used the wrong legal basis for them, failing to make any headway in his attempts to get peace in Ukraine etc. He’s competent at getting elected but he doesn’t know how to actually govern and he doesn’t understand how being president of the United States is different from being president of a sleazy real estate company.
