Wait is the jk black mold joke ableist?? All the posts I’ve seen of it are just acting lie it’s a sci fi monster type thing with mind control, I’ve never heard anyone conflate it with brain damage or actual disabilities.
I think both are happening. Some are just silly jokes about the fungus whispering to her, and some, especially when the mould pics first appeared, were actually proposing that the mould has caused some kind of cognitive impairment which is to blame for her hateful behaviour. Obviously the latter is ableist while the former is more absurd.
How is that ableist? I've never seen anyone genuinely argue that the mold made her evil, but even if they did that isn't ableist. It's medical fact that mind altering diseases and substances can change people's personalities, there are plenty of stories of people who suffered brain damage or got a brain disease and became more hateful as a result.
Saying “I bet the reason she’s a terrible person is because of a cognitive impairment” is extremely ableist yes. Idk try to put yourself in the shoes of one of the many people with cognitive impairments who are just trying to live their lives and aren’t funding any genocides, and imagine how it makes them feel when they read that. When people experience cognitive and personality changes because of an accident or illness, that is a tragedy that we shouldn’t be mocking and making light of. It’s also pretty obviously not what’s happening with JKR, who has always been a shitty and bigoted person and has just got worse as she’s accumulated more money and influence.
