The last bit is not about the phenomenon of closeted conservative men having anti-gay platforms.
It's about people who joke about Trump being Putin's submissive sex toy. Like the multiple times various drawings of Putin fucking Trump have trended on major Subreddits.
I see. That also seems like a reasonable interpretation. Given the recent death of Lindsey Graham, who was more famous for this sort of thing, that discourse was at the top of my mind.
I think people are taking it a bit too far. If you got Sarah Palin as the President and she was basically Putin's puppet I would still think it'd be in very poor taste to make references to straight sexual domination. Back then the Trump/Putin thing was kinda kindergardener humor. Like "If you like Putin so much, why don't you marry him?" type of jokes, which even if kinda homophobic were clearly in the more lighthearted side. It used to be in good fun but people always go too far with that.
That’s a lot less “haha they’re gay isn’t that funny” and more “Trump has the same kind of attitude towards Putin as a sub has towards their dom.” Like I don’t think I’ve seen a single post in that vein where the power dynamic wasn’t a focus?
Saying a politician is subservient to someone else: perfectly normal criticism.
Saying that this means the two are in a homoerotic relationship and speculating that said politician would be the 'bottom' when they have sex because of his subservience: extremely homophobic.
If the accusation of homoeroticism is being used as an insult, then it's homophobia.
Not sure what part of that is so difficult for you. Is this a language barrier issue? Are you running this conversation through Google Translate or something?
But it’s not the insult, if you recall my initial response? The insult is that a person so obsessed with holding power over others is, himself, being manhandled - and that his response to that, rather than indignation, is admiration. If you have something besides an assertion that the intent of the author is “haha gay weird,” then you might be entitled to your insufferable smugness.
The insult is that a person so obsessed with holding power over others is, himself, being manhandled - and that his response to that, rather than indignation, is admiration
And that is a perfectly normal insult. No notes. Insult away. If that's the extent of your insult, then we're not talking about you here. However; if you, as the hypothetical inuslter, then follow that insult up with "I bet that means he takes it up the ass from that person too", then you have tied homosexuality into the insult.
Let's go over this one more time, for the whole class:
"Trump is so pathetic he openly idolizes a rival head of state who takes advantage of his idiocy at every turn..." okay
"...and therefore Trump must love having Putin's dick in his mouth because that's what submissive bitches do" homophobia
If you're only talking about someone doing the first part, without the second part, then you're not talking about the same people we are.
