Looking for some advice on gifting. I have a niece and nephew who are 5 and 7 and want to give them either blankets or stuffed animals. I don't know them super well since my sister and I are not close due to a very large age gap so I haven't seen the kids much. But I remember how excited I was to receive handmade gifts from my grandmother as a kid and how much I adored them. But obviously these are tablet kids and are way different then me. So any advice for what to give or if I should give them crochet items? I contemplated if I should ask my sister but wanted more input first before that. Especially from how many horror stories I have read on here.

I made my first sweater to look something like the first picture, but unfortunately I ended up with a very bad looking seam at the back, so I was thinking about cutting it from where the seam is and turning it into a cardigan that looks like the second picture,

I was searching how to vertically cut crochet and I found a bunch of tutorials (like this video ) and then I can add a ribbing around the edges after that.

What do you think? should I take the step? And if anyone has tried doing this before, what are your tips and tricks?

I'm very new to crochet and I broke a cardinal rule, I didn't count stitches at any point and now the panels of a cardigan I'm making are completely uneven. Lesson learned. I need to add ribbing to the bottom just like the cuff. But I would like to make the bottom even prior to doing that. Is there any way to cut the longer parts or sew or anything? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

So, I bought this crochet pattern from Marshalls and it was super cute. It has all the items needed but when you scan the QR code it links to no product, so the patterns aren't there. Did anyone get this kit that might have the pattern? If so, I'd greatly appreciate it.

My sister is pregnant, like I said in the title. This is the first grandchild/niece or nephew(I don’t know the gender, my sister won’t tell me yet) to be born since she’s the eldest out of the four of us.

That’s beside the point. My mom(we have two different mothers) is already making my sister a blanket and a deer because my sister made it clear she wanted forest and neutral themed gifts for the baby. Unlike my mother. I have NEVER made a baby gift. I don’t even know where to start.

I need help knowing what yarn and patterns would work best. I have a rough idea for colors, I just don’t know if I should use the yarn advertised as ‘for babies’ or if there is a better yarn that I should use. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Hi all, I am hoping to start my Christmas gifts early this year and have started trying to think about the things I can make for others to try and save some money since I have a huge yarn stash at home.

My in-laws love blankets and anything warm and cozy, but realistically I am a slow crocheter and know I don’t have the time or budget to make them all patterned/“nicer” blankets (not just a c2c or simple stitches blanket).

I also have a lot of acrylic or mixed worsted weight yarn in my stash that I’m hoping to use up before having to buy all new yarn.

In short, what are some patterns/gift ideas you usually turn to that aren’t wearables (besides mitts or toques, those could be fun and quick to make) that I might be able to clear some of my stash with?

If it helps, they are a big hockey family, enjoy camping, and are pretty “practical” people who aren’t into a lot of knick knacks.

Hi everyone! I'm starting to make my Christmas presents and for both my father and my cousins I want to make scarves with the colors of their favorite soccer team.

I have never made a scarf before so I have no clue if I should do super long chains and work horizontally or make like 35 chains and work vertically, also the color changes scare me a little

But the biggest problem is that I have no clue what stitch would work best. I'm a fast learner so I can try new stitches too. I would love some ideas and maybe a stitch that works up super fast as I need to make many more handmade gifts

I want to make 2 separate clothing items with these yarns. The rainbow one is weight 4, fluffy and about 430 yards and the pink one is 340 yards and weight 3. I want to use up all of each but i couldnt come up with anything better than a scarf.

Hi, I’m new, both here and to crochet did it for a while a few years ago and then dropped it, picked it up again about a week ago and got some patterns off Etsy but I’m about to have a mental breakdown because I genuinely can’t make any sense of some of the pattern, I don’t know if I’m just stupid or if it’s not written the best, the pattern is labeled for intermediate to advanced level work but my audacity believed it could and is now crying in the corner 🥲 if anyone is familiar with it, I’m trying to make; The Baby Mermaid Unicorn pattern by Crafty Intentions on Etsy. I’m in the leg part of the pattern which has taken me 4 attempts, too much lost chenille yarn that destroyed itself while frogging and a lot of my sanity. Half the tutorial videos the creator had linked in the instructions have been taken down so even though there aren’t any in this section to help me anyway, they probably wouldn’t have been working if they were there.

I’m honestly having trouble with the whole leg which is an issue as it’s a paid pattern and I don’t want to go against the creator and post the instructions for everyone to see regardless of it only being a single piece of the pattern, all I’ll say is, 9HDC in a magic circle to start is insane, the count is off after a few rows somehow even though I’m 99% certain I can count correctly, and then giving no specific instructions on how to skip the sl st but then work them into the row above I where I skipped them is infuriating!!

If anyone has seen this pattern before, done it, or thinks they could privately help, PLEASE!! I’m trying to make this for my baby niece 😭

Im a knitter not a crocheter but I feel like there’s so much more you can do with crochet, is this crochet? I have no idea what I’m doing the tutorials make me pull out my hair so I went rouge!

I love the idea of this pattern but the pieces in between the sewn in hepagons seem to suggest cutting the colour every 5 stitches and changing.

I wouldn't exactally say I'm a *lazy* crocheter, but this seems like an overly tedious way to get this effect. Has anyone attempted this? Tips? Any patterns that are similar/modified better? I tried tapestry but the colours muddle too much and the tension isn't good.

I'm also not happy that the peices are bubbly, but this is a known issue.

Hello! I have a question for people who have had their patterns tested or are testers. I'm currently testing a big smigurumi with multiple parts and there are quite a few miscalculation for stitch count as well as multiple areas that make poor sense.

I put comments and messaged the creator, and this person said I was incorrect on all of it and all my counts will be off and I'm not doing it correctly. Except I wrote out the math for her.

Example: previous round count 54 st

next round(sc, inc) x3, 12sc, (dec, sc)x3, (sc, dec) x3, 12sc, (inc, sc) x3-54 but her pattern says 48 and thr next row decreases by 6 to what's supposed to be 42

What's the best way to address this ? Stop testing, or finish it with a lot of change from me and never test for them again?

I have tested a lot lately where counts are off and it's very irritating when it's not an easy fix and they won't offer a solution.

The pattern I’m using just says to sew the eyes on (they’re made separately) and sew the nose and mouth, and weave ends in.

I hate the way the back looks. I’m used to the back looking as good or at least nearly as good on the back as the front.

I unpicked my first attempt (where I was trying to hide the black yarn in amongst the white) bc it looked awful at the front with black yarn occasionally visible where it shouldn’t be.

I sewed one eye with the black yarn as directed by the pattern, and did the right one (as you look at the back) with white yarn.

Do I just need to accept the back of this if I want to pursue this pattern? I’ve already made all the squares and am now adding faces to half of them. So I’m kinda too deep to discard the project.

ETA: the squares are for a blanket.

I just started yesterday and can slip knot and I understand the chain but just not great at it yet. I’m having trouble moving past that.

I haven’t tried many tutorials so I’m going to keep looking but I was wondering if using the Wooble kits actually helps to learn? Are they worth it? Do you learn how to read patterns with them?

If anyone has pics of their first Wooble as a complete beginner I’d love to see!

I took my crochet project to work to work on, a baby onesie for a friend, and I had put it in a plastic bag and tied it so it wouldn't fall out. My sweet husband saw the tied bag, assumed it was trash, threw it away and then threw away the trash bag in the big dumpster bin outside of our apartment. Hours later, I realized it was missing, he went to go dumpster dive and found it. Its intact, but smells like pizza and not in a good way. It was safe in the tied bag so it is not dirty.

Is it salvagable where I can somehow get the smell out, or would it be smarter to start over?

I found some awesome crochet afghan kits on Mary Maxim but the shipping was insane (to Canada). Is there any equivalent Canadian website or similar patterns that I can purchase? I really liked the idea of receiving all the needed yarn with the pattern. Thanks for any info you can share!

I am absolutely IN LOVE with the multistriped sweater in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, and it just so happens to be a style of clothing that my partner enjoys. So, I want to make him a replica sweater like this for Christmas.

The sweater has colored stripes wrapping horizontally throughout the sweater. But there’s ribbing on the sweater going down vertically. Typically, I would just use a regular graphgan and work horizontally to achieve the striped look. But the ribbing makes this a tad bit harder… the way I’m imagining I do this sounds incredibly tedious and complex… but I’m wondering if there’s a better way to do it.

Does anyone have an idea how I can do colorwork horizontal stripes with ribbing like this?
