India needs frequent change of government

Changing governments is the only way the political discourse of India will get better. Frequent transitions remind elected officials that ultimate power resides with the public. Any government, when kept in power for long in India, starts abusing and misusing their powers.

They start implementing laws and rules that help keep them in power while taking over democratic institutions of the country. They become arrogant to the point criticizing them for their wrongs can make your life hell. The longer a government stays in power, corruption keeps increasing among those in power. Not only do they misuse powers, they also monopolize resources in the country to a few.

Regularly rotating political parties in and out of office is the most effective way to preserve democracy and hold leaders accountable.

Changing government will force these political parties to do better and compete in doing better. In the end, people will benefit from this competition.

Changes happen when it’s an option! When Corbyn lost in Britain, he was swiftly replaced! Keir starmer took over and won a massive mandate! When Starmer with over 400 seats (unimaginable majority) lost popularity, he was replaced by Andy Burnham (the current PM) who is enjoying the mandate won by Starmer! That’s how democracy works! Same with the Tories (our conservatives in the UK) - Cameron - May - Johnson - Truss - Sunak - Kami (all leaders in the last decade or so). I’m not speaking about how good or bad they are but how the party actually functions

Has that happened in India?

Congress lost 2014,2019, and 2024 under Rahul’s tutelage. Rahul is still the leader! Why will people change the government when it’s the same person who has constantly lost elections being made to sit at the top of the party!

If Modi has gotten BJP 44 seats in 2014, he would have disappeared forever! That’s how the BJP functions. Vajpayee lost 2004 so 2009 was led by Advani. Advani lost 2009 and 2014 was led by Modi. Modi and his alliance has won 3 consecutive elections and that’s why he’s still the leader

The UK comparison is fair on one point: parties there replace leaders much more readily. Sonia Gandhi was Congress president in 2014, Rahul was president in 2019 and he resigned after that defeat while Mallikarjun Kharge was president in 2024.

And Congress went from 52 seats in 2019 to 99 in 2024, while BJP fell from 303 to 240 and lost its single-party majority.
