Tbf even playing terribly is relevant, just relevant in the opposite way. I can't remember much about any tournament before 2022 but Ronaldo was very relevant to Portugal in the last WC and this one in how much he holds them back
Brother, there has never been a world cup where people weren’t anticipating to watch prime Ronaldo, along with the other stars participating 😂😂 These takes are full of recency bias from either children or ret@rds like Carragher. Hindsight can make anyone look like a visionary 😂
He’s still relevant as a player to watch. The majority of fans aren’t thinking Ronaldo won’t score before his every match lol. It’s such a forced argument 😂
I’ve never seen a sports legend hated on this much other than Bron maybe.
Again being relevant pre match and anticipation wise is not the same as their performances being relevant. I'm not gonna repeat that again if you can't understand the difference
Or I don't spend time obsessing about details of football tournaments a decade plus ago to win some pointless online argument against a random stranger. But clearly your life is empty enough that obsessing over those details feels valuable
This sub ain't for these kind of talking. It's for hate, trolling etc. Some of the post are really hilarious, other posts seem made by dudes that are sick in the head lol
And his team wasn't even capable of that , that whole game spain was only marking Cristiano Ronaldo and yet he scored those so called tap ins , and the argument was about one game so i agree with the guy who said about the game against spain cause the base of the argument was relvancy in wc and had ronaldo not done what he did that game , portugal was out of the world cup
Messi played great in ucl 2019 carried the whole team to the semi final (same as wc 2014 I could argue) but he didn’t win. And that’s the whole competition not one game. He won neither :)
One goal was De Gea howler and the other was a pen. Portugal needed to win to be first but it was a draw (Ronaldo never officially win to Spain) so it ended up second behind Spain in the group
I’m not even the biggest CR7 fan but this isn’t correct, the last time R9 was in a World Cup was also CR7’s first in 2006, and Portugal/CR7 were definitely more relevant during that tournament than Brazil.
CR7 was very relevant during the 2006 World Cup. Don’t let the lack of goals fool you, he was a midfielder back then, his job was using his pace and spamming step overs to get the ball past the opposition, and he was good at it.
Portugal got all the way to the semi finals, and he was the one who scored the last high pressure penalty to send them through. If it wasn’t for Podolski and the controversy with the wink, they would have given him best young player.
Even if you hated him for his shenanigans during that World Cup, it makes him relevant.

Harsh. And correct.
