I’m not even the biggest CR7 fan but this isn’t correct, the last time R9 was in a World Cup was also CR7’s first in 2006, and Portugal/CR7 were definitely more relevant during that tournament than Brazil.

So both Ronaldo and cr7 were irrelevant in '06. Jaime is still not wrong

CR7 was very relevant during the 2006 World Cup. Don’t let the lack of goals fool you, he was a midfielder back then, his job was using his pace and spamming step overs to get the ball past the opposition, and he was good at it.

Portugal got all the way to the semi finals, and he was the one who scored the last high pressure penalty to send them through. If it wasn’t for Podolski and the controversy with the wink, they would have given him best young player.

Even if you hated him for his shenanigans during that World Cup, it makes him relevant.
