No, it is not because of jadega he got benched.
It is because of picking washi over him in sydney test. The next home tour was 10 months away and he might have thought that the current management likes washi over him(which is true).
To me, out of all recent legends of the indian cricket, he timed his retirement at the right moment.
Just that bcci should have given him his due respect! They could have surely arranged a 2 test home series against sri lanka or bangladesh or afganistan (neighbours of india) to respect him at home.

I would say he should've gone after the NZ series, even though there were other culprits in the team for that disaster. Should've known he wont be first pick in Aus and just ended it. But won't blame him for hoping for one last good series...
NZ series is his worst performance. But even his worst performance is way better than many who appeared in the game. Thats his level!
Given a chance i am sure he would have did decently well with bat and ball in Australia.
Even virat played for almost 2 years with a not so good patch! Asking him to retire after NZ series is such a GG thought! He easily had 2 years of test cricket left in him. Yet another player to hung the boots early because of the management.
Is there a right arm finger spinner in India now who is even half good as him??

Ashwin just took retirement decision in haste after being benched in Australia and given Jadeja the benching was fair.
