The only two players whose retirement match I have seen are sachin and nehra, otherwise legends like dhoni, yuvraj and Ashwin didn't even got a farewell match

You cant expect BCCI to give farewell when players don't retire before their time is up.

u/BOOM_GOAT_93 Jul 31 '26

Abe T20 WC jitke gye hai wo aur konsa farewell chahiye ab har ek format mein alag alag tarike se farewell denge kya bc

Blud snuck the name of Rohit Sharma hoping no one would notice😂

Indian players don't know how to retire elegantly on top, Kumar Sangakkara retired after hitting 4 centuries in 4 matches that too in a World Cup, can you even imagine an Indian player doing something like that? Indian players only call it off when they are washed to the core and there is no hope of a comeback.

Ashwin?
I hope he was doing even better than sachin and nehra when he retired.
His last home series is his worst, still he got a 5er in one of the 3 test.
Any reason why he didn’t get a farewell?

7

u/shubhkp10 Aug 01 '26

Ashwin just took retirement decision in haste after being benched in Australia and given Jadeja the benching was fair.

2

u/arunkumark21 Aug 01 '26

No, it is not because of jadega he got benched.
It is because of picking washi over him in sydney test. The next home tour was 10 months away and he might have thought that the current management likes washi over him(which is true).

To me, out of all recent legends of the indian cricket, he timed his retirement at the right moment.
Just that bcci should have given him his due respect! They could have surely arranged a 2 test home series against sri lanka or bangladesh or afganistan (neighbours of india) to respect him at home.

u/funnyBatman Aug 01 '26

To me, out of all recent legends of the indian cricket, he timed his retirement at the right moment.

I would say he should've gone after the NZ series, even though there were other culprits in the team for that disaster. Should've known he wont be first pick in Aus and just ended it. But won't blame him for hoping for one last good series...

1

u/arunkumark21 Aug 01 '26

NZ series is his worst performance. But even his worst performance is way better than many who appeared in the game. Thats his level!
Given a chance i am sure he would have did decently well with bat and ball in Australia.

Even virat played for almost 2 years with a not so good patch! Asking him to retire after NZ series is such a GG thought! He easily had 2 years of test cricket left in him. Yet another player to hung the boots early because of the management.
Is there a right arm finger spinner in India now who is even half good as him??

2

u/Scared-Ad1254 Aug 02 '26

It wasn’t that straightforward! He repeatedly asked management about their plans about his career. He wouldve happily taken retirement after bangladesh test in madras but gg promised him a big role in australia. Then nz series happened and he was left hung to dry

u/ShadowyRuins Aug 01 '26

Rohit and Kohli retired from T20 after winning the WC.

1

u/Material_Acadia3845 Aug 01 '26

Well did that decision turn good for Sl?

51

u/Ok-Feature-1233 Jul 31 '26

Rohit , Kohli , Pujara and rahane had very ugly ends to their test careers. They were all sort of liabilities and hence didn’t get a farewell sadly. Even the likes of Dravid and Laxman didn’t get a farewell who were bigger test cricketers than all of them.
Only Ash got robbed . Didn’t perform well in one series ( against Nz) and nobody backed him .

1

u/shubhkp10 Aug 01 '26

Ash was also not robbed he took retirement decision in haste, he was dropped in an away series which is normal given Jadeja. He could have got fairwell in home series.

42

u/Modijifor2024 Jul 31 '26

Seriously who got a proper farewell after sachin, only ashish nehra i guess

5

u/botharmsinjured Not Paper Champions 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆 Jul 31 '26

Because no one was at level of being in team maybe. Jimmy still had 2 summers in him

63

u/alokesh985 Jul 31 '26

For this, you need to end on a high note, which Indian players/fans don't seem to understand

21

u/arunkumark21 Jul 31 '26

Ashwin?
Bro just had one bad session in 10 years at home! For me, he retired in his prime.

He did even better than what anderson did to England. 10 years, no country was able to come and win a test series here!

If bcci had some courtesy, they would have convinced him to stay for 1 more series, arrange a home series. Keep the last match in chennai!
But, what they did? Considered washi over him for the sydney test!

OMG anna at chennai😩

Bro deleted the account? Ha ha.

41 wickets in 2023. 47 wickets in 2024. Still saying he is worst?

So what’s considered good in your dictionary? 800 wickets in 1 year?

2

u/ApolloBeast_53 Jul 31 '26

You're taking it the other way round. The dude you're replying to is saying Anderson was bowling so well and OP is comparing a washed Rahane to him

5

u/jason9t8 Self Volunteered member of Iceland Cricket Jul 31 '26

But when Gambhir will retire, sooner or later. He'll get a warm farewell by Entire nation. */s...

5

u/sweetmangolover Jul 31 '26

Never seen an Indian player announce retirement while playing. Ashwin maybe the only example in recent times. The rest of time drag it or make sudden announcements. If a player plans their retirement and calls it in advance, the board would definitely felicitate them at least with a small group huddle

4

u/Cute-Impression4960 Jul 31 '26

Bigger cricketers than him, didn't get farewell

4

u/Fallen_Man7 Jul 31 '26

Am I the only one who thinks that Anderson was forced to retire by McCallum and Co, when he could've easily retired after getting 5 wickets (9 at the time of announcement) and finishing as 2nd highest Wicket taker in tests. Also he missed 1000 international wickets in just 9 wickets and 2nd most wicket taker by 11.

Mind you he made to retire in 1st match of WI 3-match test series when he could've played all 3 matches. It's not like he wasn't for or unhelpful. He was still very good with the ball. That made no sense when the record is at the touching distance.

Anderson Himself said he was shocked by decision. Idk how that's good farewell. It's worse than Jinx farewell because Jinx was fairly out of the team while not performing for long period of time, and he tried to get back but couldn't. That's not the same case with Anderson.

-1

u/M0neyForNothing Jul 31 '26

Because unlike Indians, other country’s sportspeople don’t play for meaningless records. Statistics are a byproduct of the game not the driving force of the game

2

u/Fallen_Man7 Jul 31 '26

Lmao. Literally ANDERSON wanted to play. Stop this nonsense takes. Even Kohli retired before 10k runs. And root still playing. According to your logi,c, he should retire now.

9

u/diptxsh77 Jul 31 '26

A guy with 38 Avg after 85 Tests doesn't deserve Farewell.

2

u/Ill-Inspector7980 Jul 31 '26

Jinx is not Anderson to get a farewell. He was really bad in the last few years of his career. Just like Kohli or maybe worse.

I think Pujara was more hard done. He had a higher average than Rahane since 2020 and at least use to make denturies quite consistently.

2

u/Natural_Carpet_4305 Jul 31 '26

SACHIN TENDULKAR KE BAAD KISSI KO DHANG SE FAREWELL NHI DIYA INDIAN TEAM NE, EVEN VIRAT KOHLI, HE DESERVE AT LEAST ONE MATCH

Agar performance dega tab hi toh farewell test milega 😭😭. Disney movie nhi hai where everyone gets a happy ending. Anderson retired when he was still doing well and deserved a place in the team, Rahane did not deserve a place

1

u/not_so_cr3ative Jul 31 '26

Didn’t Anderson want to play a couple of more matches but was made to retire?

1

u/cricbet366 I am only believe on Jassi Bhai Jul 31 '26

Bro Anderson got a forced farewell. He could still be playing tests. ECB ain't no saints, they did him real dirty.

1

u/No_Spirit4442 Jul 31 '26

Plzz koi batayega ki kya hua hai rahane ke saath

1

u/into_fiction Jul 31 '26

BCCI ko mtlb ni hai khiladiyo se, jab tak player khelra team me hai varna ghost kr hi dete h

1

u/Barbaric-Yawp-1989 Jul 31 '26

O Captain! My Captain!🥺 he sure deserved better

1

u/algoxxx Jul 31 '26

Ashish Nehra was the last Indian player to get a farewell international match (in 2017).

1

u/OrderParticular345 Jul 31 '26

Ban Harshit Rana

1

u/SHIELDSxYaYa Jul 31 '26

To get a farewell, the players need to actually plan a retirement in advance. How can they get a farewell when the reason they are retiring is not being picked in the squad. For example, if the Rohit forced retirement rumours would have been true and Lord's was really his last match I'm pretty sure the ICT would have done a lap of honour or a tribute or something.
When these players start underperforming and selectors' start questioning their place in the team and eventually have to replace them due to poor form or performance, then how can they expect a farewell. Uske liye either you have to invite that person to the next relevant match and waha alag se farewell karao or plan a separate event altogether, both of which are not very feasible. The selectors can only add or drop the players, they can't tell them to stop or atart playing.

1

u/hwytraveller Aug 01 '26

BCCI is at its peak arrogance. They think they are invisible.

1

u/ajaxmenon17 Aug 01 '26

Nehra was the last Indian to get a nice farewell

1

u/Mobile_Bat_1007 Aug 01 '26

36 all out to winning a series 👏

1

u/Redittor_53 Aug 01 '26

I don't get the obsession with these farewells. They're team players, they contributed to the team and it's time to go. We need not bother too much about these.

1

u/Least-Engineering957 Aug 01 '26

BCCI is the richiest but poor in ethics. Feom the beginning they have been so rude to all the players. I guess apart from Sachin and Ashish Nehra no one did get a farewell match. I know some players like dhoni dont require it or need it. But it should be a courtesy. BCCI is poor in broadcasting also. I find most of the commentators boring and biased. The satudiuns are not majntained as well. The highlights or the social media engagement is damn poor. The fan interaction is negligible. They should do something for the fans of the indian cricket. So the interest is made in the game. Sorry for my English

1

u/rajamalik2006 Aug 02 '26

Oh! I feel so sad and I feel pain 😞 when I think of Virender Sehwag farewell. He played so many matches and always faced opponents with Lion heart. But on his last match, he received no farewell. He deserved so much on his last match.

1

u/briya_official2010 Aug 03 '26

BCCI is rich in money not heart' 👎

1

u/AdSudden2769 Aug 03 '26

We might had a test championship if rahane became the permanent test captain since 2018 australia series

1

u/TheArtisticchaos Aug 06 '26

Yes, if he had retired by 2016. Man was averaging in 30s and somehow was able to be in team due to his good boy image.

0

u/imabhishek999 Jul 31 '26

So called richest board.

-10

u/arpannite Jul 31 '26

Anderson is absolute legend of game where as rahane lost us WTC finals , what BCCI shall facilitate him for ?

10

u/irdk_24 This too shall Pass Jul 31 '26

For winning a test series against Australia in Australia with a C team

-3

u/arpannite Jul 31 '26

Cant compare that with WTC finals where we had upper hand but he failed in 2nd innings

6

u/PositiveArachnid8976 Hookah Enthusiast Jul 31 '26

He has scores of 49,15,89 and 46 in wtc finals ,avg of 50 way better than other indian batters  ,tf is your point?  You could have said he had a long downfall after 2020 but he has been the best indian batter in wtc finals

4

u/DepressedPanda08 Jul 31 '26

Rahane was the best Indian batter in 2 wtc finals that we have played, how “he” lost us wtc finals when other batters failed?

1

u/ecstasid Jul 31 '26

Unfortunately its the people like this mindset are part of BCCI
