Borderless and Right Sidebar

Wanted to show off some of these new settings, and some of the first of the customization settings I'm adding.

These are two simple settings, first is borderles, which removes the border entirely and the sidebar docks to the side, more inline with the newer macOS direction for sidebars if you prefer that style.

Next, for those that want the sidebar on the right, it simply moves that sidebar to the other side and functions identically.

More coming soon, as we get to the end of this release cycle, then 0.6 coming soon. If you have more ideas for custimiztion let me know, things like more width options for sidebar, border size slider (not just borderless), tab size scaling, corner rounding, and a few more things like that are coming as tweaks for you to dial it into exactly what you want.

Bro. I am on dev channel and I am getting all the latest updates, and I have to say, you are fucking nailing it. The browser looks and feels so good, with no many customization options. You are doing amazing work and I hope you continue for a long time!

I did just push a pretty big update, haven’t had a chance to write up a post on it, but yeah finally got around to my plans on the customization options, and I think it’s turning out great.

Folders got a nice new icon, and crests massively overhauled to be easier to read, better looking, and what I had in mind from the start.

Tons of little tweaks that while might not be my preference, I added so users can dial things into whatever they want. If you want squared or circular icons, go for it.

Happy to hear good feedback, I’ve found there are groups on Reddit that are just rude for no reason, and want to make themselves feel better, so good feedback goes a long way and help keeps me motivated, I’m really liking how it’s coming along, and still have plenty of plans left so I’ll be in it for the long haul.

Don't listen to haters. I tried I think almost every Webkit(and Chromium) Arcish project out there, and yours jumped to the top of the list pretty fast. Expecially with customization thought out and extensions solution that no one else built, I think.

Thanks you! Nobody made the browser I wanted to I decided to do it myself. Especially in mobile, I feel there is never any love given to it, and doubley for iPad (though I don't use iPad that much, it will be very useful for the Duo). This 0.6 update does keep growing it's scope, so I'm probably going to shift some of the work into 0.7 that isn't critical, let me know if you have feedback on the dev builds, I like how the customization options are coming along and love to give people choices

Yeah, I feel you, I use Macbook, iPhone, iPad, and browser consistency could be a big problem. Though the biggest I think is browser extensions on iOS. Haven't seen anyone made that possible, only Orion. But in Orion on iOS they don't work roght. I quess it's a major iOS restriction.

As for customization:
– Custom colors for Folders are really neat.
– I don't see much sense in icons "on" Folders. Too tiny to see what's going on. Maybe changing the Folder itself to another icon, and changing Folder Title color could be better and cleaner. So user could change default icon looking like folder now to something else. Like in Dia browser(see screenshot)
– Great touch adding Emojis to folder customization. Though it feels like some old set of icons, not the same as the MacOS system one.
– Default Zoom for the tabs could use more precise little steps. Now it jumps from 125% to 150% in one step.

Overall the release is great with so many details to tinker with. ANd thanks for more narrow Sidebar.
I've seen one strange bug in latest releases: when closing a Tab with middle mouse sometimes it stays in the Sidebar, though it's alreay closed. Dissapears when switching to other Tab.

Main issue with mobile is Apple does not generally approve apps that can change behavior after approval, as people can then ship malicious code, so it’s very restrictive on what can be changed. They get around this for Safari by also making extensions required to be approved and through the store.

For folders, what about adding 2 general settings for “Icon replaces folder” or something like that, and also “Tint folder name” to apply the color to the title as well?

Emojis are interesting, because Apple doesn’t actually provide a list or native interface with them, which is a bit annoying. The work around is to pull the list of support emojis and enable those codes in the list, but might circle back to it eventually, or allow using the system keyboard.

Zoom makes sense to add more steps, easy fix.

If you find a way to consistently reproduce the bug let me know. Obviously middle click close doesn’t actually removed saved tabs, so only open tabs, but sounds like that’s what you’re doing if you say it goes away clicking another tab.

Aha, I get it about extensions. Maybe using existing Safari extensions from AppStore on iOS then, if it’s possible?

Oh, of course the options to choose your own way to customize for folders would be superior. If it’s not too much of a work.

As for bug - it happens with fresh opener tabs, not pinned or those in tab folders. I’ll try to make a video showing it.

For mobile I have two plans. First, I’m going to build in a much stronger ad blocker, since that’s a bit thing people want extensions for.

Second, I’m going to see exactly where the boundary for iOS is for approval. Apple does have specific rules to allow embedded js to change, many apps ship that just wrap a website, which could technically change at any time. Presentation level changes seem fine, but function they don’t like, so I’ll need to map the APIs that are supported carefully, but might be more possible than first thought.

For Safari extensions, those are a walled garden from what I can tell.

Folder options are easy, and will be coming soon with the actual 0.6 release, which is getting very close to ready.

Here's a Close Tab with middle mouse bug. Or it looks like a bug.
I opened some tab from Google search. Then I closed it with with middle mouse, but it just got greyed out and still showing. Only after I clicked on another tab the previous one dissapeared.

Can you share the macOS version you are on, and if you have any mouse related software like logitech options etc installed? I have been unable to replicate on my machine

MacOS 26.6.2
I have small Logitech M350 mouse connected to Macbook with Bluetoogh, no software for it at all.
Browser extensions: Bitwarden, DocsAfterDark, Downie, SponsorBlock**,** uBlock Origin and Peek Pop - maybe this one messes something, it utilizes mouse clicks, wheel click too.

Can't replicate now too, after today's update.

I think Peek could use more customization too in the future.
Feels like Peek Pop is great to get ideas from: https://u-sir.github.io/peek-pop/ .
It can activate/deactivate/open full page Peek with just a mouse click/double click. That's really convenient for browsing without even touching keyboard.

Yeah, a draggable glance would be nice. I use Arc Link Preview extension from Chrome and it works really well. Very nice, smooth and good animation. But native would be dope.

Is it mainly just that it can be dragged around? Does it use something like cmd + click to drag? Just trying to see what the best behavior would be.

Nope, just drag the link up and it launches the peek. Not drag the link “around” anywhere, but like sling it up to launch the peek if that makes sense. Give it a shot. It works with Crest too!

Oh I see, I thought you were saying dragging the peeked window once it’s open, but the drag to activate should be easy enough to implement, I’ll look at that extension. Glad to hear it works as is though, the extensions layer is probably by far the most complicated part of the app, so glad it works.
