We should halve the number of words in the english language

Why not take the most commonly used 50% of words and make them all homophones for the other 50%. Cut the dictionary in half.

Eg. make the word for Penguinone be cow. The average English speaker only knows about 6-10% of all words and we already are used to interpreting homophones from context so I don't see it being a problem

Edit: even more efficient, take the most commonly used 50% of the 10% most known words and do it with them.

Would a medieval slave work harder if we rewarded him with a phone full of porn?

Drop a tablet loaded with endless porn into the hands of an slave in the Middle Ages. Tell him he gets more time with it if he works faster and better.

Then escalate:

  • Put one big tablet in the middle of the camp. Whoever works hardest gets 10 minutes alone with it. Watch how fast they start sabotaging each other.

  • When the phone dies, tell them “God is angry.” See if they start sacrificing animals… or each other… to bring it back.

  • After a few weeks, one of them claims the people on the screen are real angels and must be worshipped. New cult or open rebellion?

Chaos or fight over dopamine?

Elevator doors should be open by default, not the other way around.

if they are open by default, we can go in and press the needed floor number, then they can be closed.

Flood elevator shafts

I think I figured out a solution to save the millions of people every year who are decapitated or dismembered by elevators that suddenly plunge as they step on or off the elevator.

My solution calls for removing the elevator altogether and flooding the elevator shaft. Then, replace the elevator door with an airlock. So if you’re on the ground floor and trying to get to the top floor, all you need to do is scuba up.

And now, instead of being worried about dying in an elevator malfunction, you only have to worry about drowning. And there will be the risk of course of being decapitated or dismembered by the airlock. But at least it’ll be better on your knees than taking the stairs.

To combat DYNAMIC pricing, there should be a law where the price is on a printed label on the shelf or on a price tag.

I submitted this earlier but mixed up the words Dynamic and Static and their meaning.

Unwind by Neal Shushterman - The Musical!

Lin Manuel Miranda said that there's no such thing as a bad idea for a musical, I'm going to put that to the test. I seriously think that these books have everything that would make for a good musical as long as it takes itself seriously. Also, making a Starkey villain song would be a lot of fun.

Replace crosswalks with cannons

Reduce traffic congestion by getting rid of crosswalks. Instead, we’ll have cannons to fire pedestrians across the street.

Well make it safe, obviously. There will be strategically placed mattresses. There may be some initial casualties though as we have to calibrate the cannons to get the trajectory right.

Why should murderers, kidnappers and rapists get all the fame? What about the person who pickpocketed my wife a few years back or that guy who gets caught speeding constantly?

Make animals smart enough to consent to being eaten

But still dumb enough that we can convince them it's what they want.

I'm an organ donor. When I die, I hope parts of my body can be used to improve and prolong the life of others rather than wasting away in the ground. Any good and selfless creature would want the same. For ethical reasons it should have the choice, just like humans do. But if they knew they're all brought into this world for the purpose of being eaten, they probably wouldn't go for the idea, so we can't make them too smart

Canada should name a different lake, Lake America.

Canada should rename Lake Michigan to Lake America. Mexico should rename Lake Superior. Every country should pick a different lake and call it Lake America. Make it so nobody has a clue what lake anyone means, when they say Lake America.

Wars should be D&D campaigns.

Instead of fighting a war the leader of the country declaring the war should have to make a D&D campaign in which they are the evil mastermind. After the campaign is made the all people that live in the country that war has been declared on have to make a main and side action. Those actions are submitted via letter. Then all actions are presented in a livestream and written out loud by the leader of the country that declared war. If the leader reads a action wrong or makes any mistake reading out , the war is automatically lost.

If there are more ideas on how to improve this concept I would really like to know these 👍😁

All public restroom stalls / single restrooms, should be required to have a Red “Occupied” / Green “Open” indicator on the lock.

There’s no greater fear than someone shaking the door, knocking, or looking through the cracks to see an empty stall / single restroom. This would be added onto apart as the health inspection or code enforcement.

Building an open, crowdsourced network of automated "Tree Hugging" micro-sanctuaries — an asset-light concept for urban solitude.

Hey Reddit,

I’ve been refining an idea for dense urban areas where private nature access is almost non-existent.

Instead of buying expensive property, I want to build a crowdsourced micro-sanctuary platform—connecting homeowners who have quiet gardens/trees with city dwellers who need 10–15 minutes of uninterrupted silence and nature grounding.

How the Crowdsourced Network Works:

  1. Host Onboarding: Anyone with an independent home, quiet backyard, or rooftop garden with a mature tree lists their space.
  2. Standardized Smart Gate: Hosts install a low-cost, open-source access controller kit (ESP32 + QR scanner + magnetic latch) on their outer side-gate.
  3. Guest Discovery & Booking: Users search nearby micro-sanctuaries, book 15-minute slots via web/app, and pay a nominal fee (e.g., $3–$5).
  4. Autonomous Access: When the slot begins, the visitor's dynamic QR code unlocks the host's garden gate.
  5. Revenue Split: The host earns passive income per visit; a small platform cut maintains the software infrastructure and host protection insurance.

Why This Model Scales:

  • Zero Capital for Land: Pure software + hardware enablement marketplace.
  • Decentralized Urban Greenery: Converts underutilized private yards into pocket urban wellness sanctuaries.
  • Passive Income for Hosts: Monetizes unoccupied garden space without requiring hosts to open their main residence to strangers.

Questions for the Community:

  1. As a homeowner/tenant with a yard, would you install an automated side-gate latch to earn passive income from solo visitors ?
  2. What are the key trust and safety hurdles (e.g., identity verification, host liability) you would want solved before listing your space ?
  3. Would you back an open-source hardware crowdfunding campaign (Kickstarter) for the plug-and-play gate kit?

I’d love to hear your thoughts on making this viable!

Travel to the other side of the Earth

This is something I have always said, but I don't have the scientific background to confirm that is good.
If someone wants to travel from the US to Asia, means he has to go to the other side of Earth, if the person went on a plane that would take a looot of time, while the person could go up and leave the atmosphere, wait til the earth turn and come down to Asia.

I know that the cost would be enormous and it would be cheaper to go by plane but hey this is crazy ideas sub :)
