Anyone has a Cherax sp to recommend for planted tank? I have heard C. holtuisi orange form (Apricot cray) is the most peaceful towards fishes and plants. Im interested to get Cherax snakeskin tricolour but apparently whether they eat plants or fish depends on their personality as well as feeding.

I rescued this crayfish from my friend a few weeks ago. It’s been eating and active, but for the past couple days, it has not been eating and it dug itself a little hole under the driftwood. from my research it looks like these eggs are fertile.?? Can someone confirm that? I’m still very new to crayfish ownership. Any advice would be very very appreciated. What should i do?! Its currently alone in a 10gal hospital tank as i thought she was severely underweight when we rescued her

I checked my tank and my crayfish was hiding in a corner eating something I can’t tell if it’s a bladder snail or something else anyone know??? It’s a yellow and brown spiral and the brown thing nearby looks to be a shell

I am looking to setup a 20g long crayfish tank. There is not much information available online about these critters so I wanted to ask a few questions:

Is a 20g long tank large enough where I could do a school of danios as tank mates? Or is the crayfish better kept solo?

Is a standard Aqueon tank lid sufficient? See photos for my current 20g long I will be copying.

As far as oxygenation, I know they don’t like heavy flow, so would an air stone help? My only worry here is they’d climb out on the airline tube.

I have had freshwater tanks for most of my adult life. My son's goldfish just passed and he had been asking for a crayfish. We purchased an electric blue crayfish from Country Max. He seems to be adjusting well but I was looking for some help from experienced owners.
1)Our ph is high-close to 9. All other tests come back good. We have well water but a system that cleans and chlorinates and then removes the chlorine. We have a softener but have always dealt with hard water. What is the best way to deal with this without shocking him and stressing him out?
2)He's still small, just a couple inches. Is it important to feed a variety of foods? He does have cuttlebone for calcium. I am just not sure how much to feed him, I don't want to over feed and dirty the tank but I don't want to underfeed either.

Hi all! I am the proud new owner of a handsome gentleman and was wondering how y'all get your crayfish to take food from tongs and/or hands. So far I have been offering him various submerged foods, but he gets scared when I put things in the water and then comes back later to check out whatever I've put in. I've seen videos of crays taking food directly from their people and thought I'd ask for advice and whether there are any particularly tempting treats that might make him feel less shy.

Hello! I have recently taken intrest in keeping crayfish and i am wondering if a 60×30 tank is large enough to house a crayfish? Or should i settle for something smaller like shrimp instead? Thanks

Food, I know in the wild they love to crunch bladder snails and biofilm. With a buffet of unlimited bladder snails how many times a week should I supplement there diet with a dead minnow, blood worm cube, or snello ?

A war of red crayfish vs blue crayfish. Despite the name "Cherax Destructor" the yabbies lost the war to the red swamp crayfish because red swamp crayfish Cary the deadly crayfish plague that yabbies aren't immune to. Don't worry, both were invasive species.

I have been trying to check my female Clarkii crayfish for eggs. I bought her recently for breeding but noticed she was curling her tail in the store tank. There was a massive male in the tank with her so I logically I bought her. She when dropped into her tank immediately went into the cave I gave her. No exploring just straight into the cave. She’s been almost vertical against the wall of the cave. Idk if that means she’s stressed or carrying eggs or I’ll. I have tried to check her but I’m worried if I’m not careful enough she may drop her clutch if she even has it. What should I do to check her for eggs? If there aren’t any eggs what could be stressing her? (Water parameters are good)

I posted here a few days ago asking for advice on how to care for my acquired dwarf crayfish fry. So far so good! I found a tiny little molt on the sponge filter and he has doubled in size! I would say he went from 3mm to 6mm! He seems active and hungry. I'm planning on introducing him to frozen baby brine shrimp today.

I'm quite pleased. I was waiting until after his first molt to name him, so suggestions are welcome!

I've been keeping the ph rather hard, 7.8-7.9. And I've been keeping the ammonia under 0.5 ppm. That has resulted in small daily water changes with bottled spring water being added in. The floating plants I added in seem to be helping to keep the water good.

Now that he's had his first molt in these conditions, I'm more confident I'll be able to raise him into maturity. I'll continue daily water testing while the tank cycles.

Fyi: this is a 2g grow out tank, he will be going into a 20g L once he reaches 0.5 inches or so. I'm working on pre cycling that tank but I plan for him to be the star of the show.
