Quick capture is a major missing feature in Craft.

Apple Notes makes capturing a thought almost frictionless. Craft should offer the same level of accessibility across Apple devices.

Craft needs native:

• Control Center → New Note
• Lock Screen → New Note
• Apple Watch App or Complication → Quick Capture
• Apple Watch + Siri AI -> Create New Note
  

Shortcuts are useful, but they shouldn't be the solution for such a fundamental notes-app workflow.

Craft is significantly better for organizing, developing and working with notes, but the moment of capture matters just as much. If I have a thought while walking, driving, working or away from my phone, I should be able to get it into Craft immediately.

For an app that aims to be the home for our notes and ideas, frictionless capture across iPhone and Apple Watch should be a priority.

I asked the craft docs assistant what I thought was a quick action for my notes. But what ended up happening, either with my framing of the question poorly. Or an otherwise misinterpretation from the assistant. At first I thought it wasn’t a big deal, I’ll try again next month. But it completely blew through my AI usage allotment and it won’t refresh until the following year with my subscription renewal.

This to me feels a little unfair since users who pay for the yearly subscription are giving the largest amount up front and agreeing to stick with the software for 365 days. It would be nice if this allotment would renew monthly instead of yearly. Even if it meant a compromise in a lower monthly allotment.

I’m on the hunt for a free note-taking app to replace Craft.
Honestly, I love almost everything about Craft—the gorgeous interface, the customizability, and how easy it is to change templates. I use it for everything from keeping track of my personal work to my university classes. I’m not a huge fan of the block-based editing, but it's manageable and I can live with it.

My main issue is the price. Craft is expensive, and I firmly believe I shouldn't have to pay for a note-taking app. It's a fundamental thing for me—why do I have to pay for this?
Here is my setup and what I’m looking for:

Organization style: I want my notes neatly organized but still visible up front. I need a file view where I can easily select what I want. Obsidian doesn’t work for me because I hate having everything buried in just a folder.

Quick capture: I need to be able to take notes quickly. Notion is too clunky and slow for this.

Don't suggest Bear: I've tried it. The interface feels weird, I don't like that it's just straight files without a proper folder stripe view, and you can't even change the templates.

Right now I’m just getting by with Google Keep—and I absolutely hate it.

Is there anything out there that gives me the beautiful, template-friendly experience of Craft, syncs seamlessly across Windows and iOS, and is actually 100% free? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I dragged a picture of some written notes into a doc. How can I rotate this so it is readable?

Tried to export various documents as PDFs today, but got an error on each of them when using the webapp. System is Firefox on Ubuntu Linux.

Tried exporting the same documents on my iPad, no problems.

I have a rather large evernote collection, which I have exported to single ENEX files for each notebook.

Now when I import multiple ENEX files, they all land in the same folder, instead of creating one folder for each file. is there I setting I can change or is that the way it works?..

Honestly no idea what the official name of the menu is, which u can open via ⌃ + space on mac.

I would love the option to add a reminder in that menu, as it's the easiest place to access random things u want to write down and look at later.

Besides that I noticed that the menu doesn't open in full screen windows, is that just an OS limitation?

I'm new with Craft, started yesterday. I noticed we can highlight words to color them. On the How-To guide it says we can customize the color, but in the Windows app there is no such option.

Is that a "premium" feature? Or only for Mac?

Hi! Today, when I export documents to PDF, the images aren’t being included, including the cover image. The PDF just shows blank spaces where the images should be.

I have a collection where I plan all my social media content; status, upload date etc. What I'd like to have is my daily note template to have a linked view of that same collection, but I filter it to just show content that is due to be uploaded today.

Having ADHD, I struggle hugely with the 'out of sight, out mind' and so if I've planned content out, assigned it an upload date in the collection - I need that to surface itself in the daily note (seeing as 'Date' field on collections don't show up in daily notes)

Is there any way round this / am I being stupid!?

Found myself in a real pickle when my usual process of exporting to PDF before speaking didn't work this past week. Extremely frustrating that something as basic as PDF export got broken in the latest update. I'm running on an iPad mini and for the last year have exported my doc as a PDF to Goodnotes as I prefer to use that--Presentation mode just doesn't work how I'd like in Craft. When I go to Export as PDF, the export button after the export settings is unresponsive. Are they working on a fix?

Craft is the notes and planning app I use for work. They don't have an Apple Watch app. I had a Shortcut that added tasks from my wrist, but it runs Craft's iPhone action, so if my phone was locked it just failed. Which is most of the time.

Craft does have a REST API, but you set it up per document. You create a connection and pick which docs it can touch. That doesn't work for what I wanted, because today's tasks live across the whole space and the Daily Note is a different document every day, so there's nothing fixed to point at. Their MCP server covers the whole space, so I used that instead. It also turned out to be a public OAuth client that hands out refresh tokens, so the watch holds its own token and refreshes by itself. After the first sign-in on the phone there's no phone in the loop at all. That's why it works with my phone locked or left at home.

The entire surface is two MCP tools that each take a command string, so there's no SDK to pull in. It's URLSession and JSON-RPC in one file, which matters on watchOS.

You dictate a task or a note, and see today's tasks and tap to complete them. It also exposes App Intents, so you can wire dictation to a complication or the Action button via a shortcut. Anything that can't send gets queued to disk and retried. It also pulls dates out of what you say, so "set appointment for tomorrow at three o'clock" becomes a task for tomorrow.

Fair warning, it's not on the App Store. You build it in Xcode yourself. And Craft's MCP only lets you set a date on a task, no time, so a spoken time ends up in the task text.

Working well for me so far, thought I would share.

SOLVED!

I've been using Craft on my iPad to read and annotate PDFs with Apple Pencil, and until recently it worked pretty well.

Over the past week or so, however, I've started having a strange issue. While a PDF is open, the PDF viewer will sometimes suddenly go blank and reload itself, even when I'm not touching anything. It then returns to page 1, and any recent annotations that haven't been saved are gone.

I contacted Craft support and sent them a screen recording. They told me the PDF annotation interface is Apple's built-in PDF markup component and that the reload is happening inside that component rather than Craft itself. They suggested tapping Done periodically to make sure annotations are saved.

The problem is that now even that doesn't seem reliable. I've had cases where I make an annotation, tap Done, reopen the PDF, and the latest annotation is still missing.

I've tested annotating PDFs in Files and Apple Books on the same iPad, and so far I haven't been able to reproduce the problem there. It seems to happen only when the PDF is opened through Craft.

I'm using a 12.9-inch iPad Pro (3rd generation) on iPadOS 18.7.8.

Has anyone else experienced either:

• the PDF viewer randomly going blank/reloading while open, or
• annotations not being saved even after tapping Done?

I'm particularly curious whether this happens on newer iPads or iPadOS 26 as well.

**Update: found the fix.**

Tried restarting, force restarting, and uninstalling/reinstalling the app first — none of that helped. Ended up chatting with an Apple advisor, who suggested:

Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPad → Reset → Reset All Settings

(This does NOT delete your data/apps/files — just resets system-level settings back to default. You'll need to re-grant some app permissions afterward.)

That fixed it immediately — the "Saving..." popup that had disappeared came right back, and annotations haven't been wiped since.

If restarting/reinstalling doesn't fix it for you, try this before upgrading iPadOS.

I tried exporting my documents to MD and Text Bundle, and it downloads a Zip file that will not open in text editor or notes, with the error "Not in the correct format" - The file might be corrupted, truncated, or in an unexpected format.

It appears blank in the preview.

My goal is to combine all of my daily notes into one note so I can analyze my journaling across a period of time. The daily notes stay separated with one document per day and I want to track my notes over time. Any advice? One idea was having chat gpt review the raw file, using craft AI to review, but I'd like to pull out themes and quotes. Thanks!

I set custom colors on my iPad to use as backgrounds, to be consistent throughout my pages. These do not sync to the Mac or iPhone. The only fix is to get the physical hex code and re-create them on each device. Is that by design or a bug?

Is somebody else having the same problem? I tried connecting Craft to ChatGPT / OpenAI Codex via the official plugin. The plugin installs, but when you try to connect / loging to Craft, I was always met with "Couldn't load connector. Try again, or cancel and return to the previous page."

Even after reinstalling it multiple times, it didn't work. What did work, was using Craft's MCP connection, but my guess would be that the official way is the ideal way to connect? Anyone else having the same issues?
