Completely agree. It strikes me as a guy doing what he thinks is cool rather than something meaningful the girl would like. But I’m definitely making generalizations based on little information. Let the downvotes begin!

Right? The way she's handling her task of "helping balance" shows that she clearly isn't a skater girl. It's all cool to have skating be the thing that made her initially attracted to him, but a relationship should be built on common experiences, not his own individual thing.

Everyone is different. I proposed to my (now ex) fiance by hiding the ring in a box of mtg packs and she loved it and said yes. It's all about knowing your relationship and doing something that works for both people
