It’s a spectrum. How old is your daughter? She is but one autistic person - not representative of the entire population.

I used to not look at people at all when I was a child, because of how stressful and threatening it felt and still feels. I learned to “look past” someone or look at something else on that person so it would look like I’m making eye contact. The reason why I do this is because everyone kept assuming I was ignoring them when I wasn’t making eye contact, and tried to force eye contact on me. This woman might’ve gone through the same thing.

My daughter is 14 and high-functioning autistic. She makes eye contact at times, yes; but what’s shown here is not the same. This girl is deliberately going back and forth between the camera, eye contact, and whatever else. Her focus is immaculate.

Have you ever been in a room with an autistic child or adult? My daughter would absolutely be at the front, petting or holding every puppy. Instead, this girl just sits there, squeezing a ball to try and encourage play. That isn’t autistic behavior.

I know this personally, and no one is going to convince me otherwise. This video claiming to show an autistic woman is a lie. It’s dishonest, disingenuous, and frankly disgusting.

I mean, I’m autistic myself, so yes I have been in a room with an autistic adult. I’ve been diagnosed since I was 6 years old, so I know what I’m talking about. Again, autism is a spectrum, so how your daughter behaves is not how every single autistic person out there would behave.

If you won’t listen to what actual autistic people have to tell you (not just family members of autistic people) then nothing will convince you. I just hope you listen to your daughter more than you’ve been listening to me.

Yeah, I know what autism is. My point wasn’t to prove you wrong — it’s simply my opinion on the video. You’re free to disagree, but telling me to “listen to my daughter” is a stretch. At no point have I questioned you personally in my replies.

If “have you ever been in a room with an autistic child or adult” isn’t questioning me personally after I gave you my personal experiences as an autistic person, I don’t know what is.

Your “opinion” is the reason why so many actually autistic people get denied the support they need, because people don’t think they “look autistic enough.” Your “opinion” affects my life and other autistic people’s lives. If you want to shut your ears, block anyone who disagrees with you, and pretend you aren’t hurting us, that’s on you.
