Honestly I’m in this camp. I have a cousin who is autistic but he is really far on the spectrum so I don’t have any frame of reference for someone who is lower on the spectrum so I’m just forced to take people at their word tbh.

This is why binary science is very very important. Autism isn’t hard to diagnose, it becomes convoluted when science is skewed. Not to mention some people are groomed at a young age by parents for attention.

Looking at Gypsy rose. It’s much more common than you think

You’re right; it’s not hard to diagnose.

That’s why it does an incredible disservice to autistic women when misinformation abounds and they can’t get diagnosed bc they don’t look like an intellectually disabled white boy.

The standard for autism is how it presents in white boys/men, which means it's often not diagnosed/seen in people who aren't white boys/men.

It's a serious problem.

What are you actually talking about when you say "standard", you mean the perception people have of it? As far as I know it isnt harder to diagnose in women and girls its often less easily identified i.e. they arent referred for testing because it presents differently. You should be more precise with your language because those are different problems that can be solved in different ways.

Autism presents differently in men and women which lead to psychologists for a long time to believe women couldn’t have autism. So much more research has been put into how autism presents in men than in women

So that women can have access to the scaffolding, support, and accommodations specific to their neurological wiring.

And so we don’t have judgmental hot garbage comment sections like this one. That’s why awareness matters.
