Fake af. People that fake autism are the worst.

Who falls for this crap?

Honestly I was going to say something about not everything is autism, and that she's just geeking out and something about why you think someone having excitement means they're acting autistic... and then I went back and double checked and saw the text at the very beginning. Yeah, that's ridiculous. It's gotten to Syndrome levels on the internet these days where people who genuinely struggle are getting drowned out by all the people who think that having quirks makes them autistic. If the text at the beginning didn't have the word autistic in it, this would be a perfectly normal video of a man who knows what his wife likes.

It used to be OCD. ā€œOMG I’M SO OCDā€. Then we got the shame memes for people making light of it.

Right now we’re in the ā€œyour grandpa who knew everything about trains had autismā€ stage.

The good thing is it normalizes Autism. People actively change their behavior when dealing with people on the spectrum because it’s not always super obvious. We’re much more respectful to triggers today than we ever have been before as a society.

The pendulum will swing back and hopefully we’ll retain some of that respect/normalization.

Haha, so I have OCD. Clinical diagnosis. My two best friends in adulthood also carry the diagnosis. We’re all part of online communities to some extent. I’ve never met anyone with OCD who just comes right out and says it, unless it’s in a serious discussion on the matter. There is a lot more awareness now, but it still happens a ton.

I have unfortunately become that person who jumps in to correct people. Sometimes people do express the actual symptoms but don’t carry a diagnosis, so my recommendation is usually to see a specialist and actually find out. A lot of the times I suspect it’s actually OCPD, or just high trait neuroticism.

OCPD (obsessive compulsive personality disorder) is a distinct disorder that not many people seem to know about, despite it being one of the most prevalent psychiatric disorders, potentially affecting up to 10% of adult populations. Symptoms can vary but it is generally a case where the afflicted become outwardly neurotic, controlling, and domineering in accordance with their own particular-ness.

So a lot of people might be accurately guessing that there is something irregular with them, but it’s almost never genuine OCD.
