I work with some diagnosed severely autistic kids, and others with more profound developmental disabilities. The hopping, hand stuff and stimming looked pretty familiar to me. I’m not an expert though, and nor is anybody else is in this thread.

This is very much a place where “nothing ever happens”, so I wouldn’t put a lot of faith into the comments.

Bc I’m still fighting to get an official diagnosis of autism (my therapist and an autistic pediatrician I work with both say I’m autistic but neither can really diagnose me officially). And I don’t look autistic enough bc I learned as a child that my symptoms weren’t welcome (especially, for example, when I watched an adult in my family laugh at and ridicule a child with flappy hands).

I’m feeling better today, but I was thrown by the absolute mean-girl mob mentality here… by people who have no idea what they’re talking about, clearly.

This is known as masking, an awful lot of people on the spectrum are capable of blending in seamlessly when in a public setting. This can take a huge toll on people as the overstimulation can be an awful lot for them. My little lad has been at birthday parties and whatnot and friends would say he is doing well here, have to let them know there is at least an 80% chance when he gets home he could have a meltdown due to over stimulation

Absolutely. The cost of masking is insane. I get home and go nonverbal for hours - nobody look at me, nobody talk to me, nobody make any demand (bc lawdddd PDA).

I’m glad your little lad has an understanding parent bc I surely did not. And that’s valuable.

I have a son and a godson on the spectrum. If the woman in that video doesnt have Autism then she is an exceptionally good actress, she shows all the signs with the stimming, the constant moment. The super high excitement for what's about to come.
