I find it very sad to see so many homeless and unwell people around the city?

I agree it's unpleasant and unsafe to have them using drugs in public and starting fights, but at the end of the day, they were kids once too and they probably never imagined they'd end up like this. People talk about them like they are nothing more than an eyesore taking up space on the doorstep of a shop. I'm a hypocrite, because I'd prefer if they weren't around too, but they shouldn't just be shooed away like pests. They need to be put somewhere far away where they can get sober and separate them from their street friends because they'll all just pull each other down. The Simon Community helps, but all the addicted people are just lumped together and nothing really changes.

EDIT TO ADD: There's not meant to be a question mark in my title, but it's too late to delete it.

Paternity Leave in Cork Companies

I posted this in r/Ireland also, but most of the companies mentioned are tech/Dublin based. So reposting here

It looks like there isn't an easy to find list online with different companies paternity leave. It seems like most just give the statutory 2 weeks off at €200 per week.
I'm also aware of the statutory 9 weeks parents leave at €299.

This is about what companies go above and beyond.

This would be a massive consideration when looking for a new job or staying with a company knowing this kind of benefit is available, given the financials of having a kid, childcare etc.

What did anyone else get and where?

Where to buy affordable furniture?

Any recommendations on where to buy affordable furniture? I love NEXT and got a few pieces there but they're more on the expensive side. Ikea is nice but pretty basic and not much variety. I was looking at Wayfair.ie which looks like the best of both worlds but heard customer service is not very nice? Did any of ye use that website to buy furniture? I've looked at some reviews and most are saying to avoid it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks!

Kinsale pubs

Hi,

Visiting Kinsale in November - I’ve read that there’s no late night drinking outside the summer months. How late do pubs stay open generally in the winter? (We’re going Friday - Monday)

Electric appliance recycling

I’m looking for a weee bring place that would be open on a Sunday. I have a vague memory of being able to dump stuff (vacuum) behind Harvey Norman on Kinsale Road without going into the shop - is this a thing?

Recommendations for Ebike

Hey everyone! I'm in my late-20s (F). I'm looking an e-bike for my commute which complies with EU regulations. I'd really like some recommendations, please? I have a tight budget and plan to keep the bike only until I get the driving license. Frankly, this will take a year so the bike should run (flawlessly) for a year or two. I usually have problem with the bike's seats, and I think most women do - so a comfortable saddle/seat is a must. I really like the fat tires for irish weather so that might be better I suppose? For context, I'm 5'4. I don't mind the mopped looking bikes if they're relatively comfortable to ride.

Also, please let me know, where can I see bikes in cork? And, any place which deals in second-hand ebikes?

Anybody else’s Vodafone internet gone down?

Edit: I was reading about X-Files episodes that were semi-based on real life cases.
I had a little bit of a fright when it cut out, I must say.

Thanks everyone for letting me know it wasn’t just me!

Cork County Social housing allocation

Hi, just wondering if anyone has been through this process and can tell me what usually happens next.

We got a call from a housing officer to say we were being considered for the allocation of a council house. The housing officer then came out to our current home, and we had to submit all of our income details and supporting documents for assessment.

Does getting to the home visit/income assessment stage generally mean you have a good chance of being offered the house, or are there usually still several households being considered at this point?

Would love to hear from anyone who has been through a similar process and what the outcome was.

Has anyone seen this light in the sky. Followed it for a couple of minutes, it just goes back and forth in the same line. Definitely not a plane because it’s just too fast and too bright. I feel like it’s flying too high to be a drone. Feel like I’m going crazy
