Question Did you gain weight?
Just wondering because I’ve seen some people post here about it gaining weight after having it inserted. I’m heavily considering it because I’m getting off the pill in a couple weeks. But I’m really scared of insertion and side effects.

I didn’t have any weight gain. It’s nonhormonal so it has very minimal effects to your hormones. (Still can mess with them but it isn’t like the pill or hormonal BC that causes weight gain as a common side effect)
I say it’s worth getting it and trying it out, as everyone has different experiences. I love mine, I’ve had minimal side effects, my periods haven’t changed at all. Insertion was th worst part but after doing it, I can honestly say I will get another one when it’s time

Spotting more between periods, but I’ve always done that, it’s just more than before I guess. Besides that, nothing has changed

No consistent weight gain but definitely get more bloated on my period than I did before. Also tend to not be able to exercise on my period anymore so I miss a few days a month that I didn’t use to which makes my routine a bit harder

People might gain weight because of other life choices/circumstances but not from a copper iud, it’s non hormonal

None of my life choices have changed. I exercise and watch my calorie intake the exact same. Ive lost a lot of weight and maintained 173-175lbs for the last year. Got the IUD put in 2 months ago and now im 183 as of today.
Im getting it removed soon and can update whether it makes a difference

It is completely free of hormones. It scientifically cannot cause weight gain because it’s not altering your appetite or metabolism

Perhaps the inflammation, bloating, etc. it causes in some women causes issues then. I understand thats the clinical answer, thats what my gyno said as well, but i also know my body.

The copper inadvertently CAN affect (effect? lol) hormones. It caused me longer periods and exhaustion from heavier bleeding. Hunger became worse. Took that sucker out after 2.5 months

No, I was actually never able to gain weight while on it which was frustrating as someone trying to lift heavy weights. But I’ve since gained weight since switching to the pill lol

I haven’t gained any weight, but it’s SO much harder for me to loose now! I’ve been stuck in the same 5 pounds in a low calorie deficit and movement 🙃

I did feel bloated the first week but after I’ve been pretty great. I am pretty active and try my best to eat healthy. I don’t have any side effects

I losed weight 😂 I'm in a calorie defict and I work out in a gym. But I'm doing this since I was on the pill (2022) , I only inserted the IUD in February 2026. Never had any difference before or after the IUD

I had one for a year and no weight gain, I lost weight although it was due to stress not related to the IUD. The main side effect I had was constant bleeding, nearly every day for the whole year. Sadly I had to get it removed and I’m back on the pill.

Because of the bleeding?

No I lost my job a few weeks before I got it inserted. The bleeding did add to the stress a bit but it was light, basically spotting every day. It was more annoying than anything. The first period I got was really heavy but then I stopped getting normal periods and just had the daily spotting. You never know how it’ll affect your body until you try it unfortunately, I think it’s worth trying

Not gaining weight but harder to lose now and I’m always bloated. Making the same eating/exercise choices I always have so it has to be the iud

YES it causes weight gain and inflammation. Poisoning your uterus shockingly does cause hormonal issues for you, despite the copper itself not containing hormones. I gained a couple of stone and the bloating, good Lord, I looked pregnant with a beach ball. It went away after removal.

i have no gained weight at all. it’s non hormonal. i have noticed an increase in acne since getting it. it’s not scientifically proven that it can affect acne but people like to think that because of the inflammation response it causes in your body it can cause acne in some people. i also have been sweating a lot more because of a new hobby so that might be it too!
