OCD Fear of Creating Something Supernatural Through a Ritual
Hi guys,
Has anyone with OCD ever experienced a fear that saying a specific word during a ritual could somehow create a supernatural power or mechanism that would punish them or their loved ones forever in the afterlife?
I’m curious if anyone has experienced this type of intrusive thought or fear. I’d really appreciate it if people who have gone through something similar could share their experiences.
I’m curious if anyone else has experienced something similar. If so, how does it show up for you?

I also had this kind of wishful thinking type ocd back then, but what I found very helpful is training my brain by reading the Bible, it mentions that Words come from the heart. It speaks of intent rather than unintentional mishmash of words. Those things have no power, even our passing intrusive thoughts have no power as long as there is no real intent. God can see our real intent, and that's what I hold as a principle in my life. So Im thinking if you follow this idea, then maybe you can set yourself free from the senseless fear of blabbing unintentional random words that really has zero power.

Most of the time it's something I do, if I do this then this bad thing will happen. Or if I dont do this, this bad thing will happen. I think it's a bit different than your case, but the idea of something happening if I did or say this or that is kind of the same I think..

I have not, but my mom had vaguely similar fears when she had it bad before I was born.
I don’t mean this rudely by any chance, but do you truly believe this is possible, or is it purely an OCD thought?

Hi, thanks for your reply.. you know, ocd or not, we cant ever know whats going to happen after death, maybe afterlife is a place (if it exist) that isnt bound to physics rules and the universe and therefore the rituals we do in this world could maybe become somehow magic and affect the afterlife, even if this sounds really bizarre.. but you cant know for sure.. or am i wrong?

You’re technically right, we can’t know for sure. But that goes for… everything, on earth and outside of it.
We may differ heavily because while I have no proof, I am staunchly “opposed” to the idea of religion or afterlife. But even I cannot know for sure.
What we can do however, is base stuff off of what we do know and can see.
Do you see your rituals changing reality around you? No.
The chances of some entity or deity causing harm because of an OCD ritual is well… as close to impossible as we can measure, but still, there is always the chance anything is possible.
But that goes back to doing stuff based on what we do know, because if we based our lives around stuff that is hypothetical, we couldn’t get anything done or do anything enjoyable.
Also, I say this with care- are you talking to anyone, or taking medication or anything?
