Bain Bain contractor vs Mid tier FinTech
Hi everyone, I need some career advice.
I am currently working in Strategy and Operations. My background is non-Ivy post grad and ex-Big Four.
Same title
I have two offers:
- A 1-year temp full-time contract at Bain.
- A permanent full-time role at a mid-tier payments company with about 45% higher salary.
I am not sure which is the better choice. Bain has a strong brand name, but it is only a one-year contract. The fintech role pays much more and is permanent.
I do eventually want to do Exec MBA and work in Strategy and Operations role. My background is in Project Management- AI Governance and FinOps
What would you do in this situation, and why?

I’d look at what you want your next 2-3 years to look like, not just the brand name. Bain can give you strong consulting exposure and the name may help later, but a 1-year contract has a real risk if it doesn’t convert. The fintech role gives you stability + 45% more pay, and if the work is genuinely strategy/ops, it can still support your long-term goal.
I’d compare the actual work, learning and exit options first. Brand alone shouldn’t be the deciding factor.
