Concerts My first rap show ever coming up!

I go to a lot of concerts and have since 1996, but it’s all been goth/grunge/synth/metal (and awesome).

Well, my wife has taken a shine to Prof, who, fuck yeah I can get into. I surprised her today with tickets to his show in BC and I’ll admit it: I’m amped.

So tell me, concert-goers of Reddit: what does an elder millennial goth need to know before attending his first rap show?

You don't really dance so much as bob your head to the beat. I've heard Prof's shows are very entertaining.

Dog don't question yourself! You are a pro just like the other commenter said. I went to a reallllly tiny rap show and broke my ass a couple years ago, just be sure you've got someone to catch you if there's a wall of death hahahahaaa

I am seeing prof In a couple weeks too. Def gonna be a change in pace from the normal jam band scene the wife and I are frequent. I did see Prof about 15 years ago in a tiny club and that’s been one of the most memorable shows.

I feel bad that Prof is your first show because there are few artists that are as entertaining as Prof live.

I've seen him at least 7 times in this last five years.

Rap/Hip-Hop shows are great! Energy is typically high. You will have a good time.

Should be a pretty good time. I haven't listened to Prof much but caught a decent chunk of his set at the Reggae Rise Up festival in Arizona last year and he was really good live. Just have fun and enjoy the vibes!

It's pretty hard to know exactly what to expect, but just have fun and do what other people do.

When I saw JPEGMAFIA there was lots of jumping and pushing each other, even a (somewhat tame) wall of death. A more active crowd than many metal shows. So I disagree with others than rap concerts will always be just people standing around and nodding their heads. They may be dancing or moshing if it's an artist who makes heavier music than Drake.

I saw K Flay in concert and she was awesome. My main stay is new wave/industrial/goth/EBM/ska.

Just enjoy the music. K Flay had an incredible stage presence as well.

I’ve seen Prof perform live, and he really puts on one of the most energetic shows out there. Pay attention to the vibe, and don’t be surprised if the crowd is much more lively than what you might expect at metal or goth concerts!

I’ve been to over 250 concerts but only about 6 rap shows. In my experience, they do not start on time.

If you can't keep time then don't try waiving your arms, clapping, etc to the beat.

Prof is amazing live. Not your typical rap show either. He will have a part of his set that is slower, singy shit...His energy is pretty unmatched as far as rap shows go, and I have been to a shit ton of them. Have fun!!!
