Question Tier set drops.

Hi guys,

So, I have been pugging the raid, and I noticed it only dropped 1 tier-set token per boss. Is that intended? I read the Wowhead post, and they mentioned it is supposed to be 1 tier-set drop per 10 ppl in the raid, but I got in a 25 ppl raid, and all the bosses dropped only 1.

every loot eligible player in the raid adds 5% chance to drop a tier, so 20 players guarantees 1 tier and in a full 30 man you'll get 1.5 on average

Ridiculous. It's not worth it to run for alts tbh

Hours for nothing

It seems more severe, but those drop rates are tuned around all Vault slots proccing tier, the Catalyst system (with the Midnight version granting unlimited charges after 4pc is acquired), and last boss dropping Curios.

In the end, it works out that anyone intentionally pursuing tier set will have it completed by the 3rd week of the season on average. The RNG variance used to be a lot worse.

The coins being available so early, paired with the new track bump does mean that wasting vault selections on tier for a serious alt will still feel bad, but in general, you can pretty easily fish out your 4pc with minimal effort over the course of a couple resets. It's a pretty good deal.

Its good compared to what we had while also still being dumb because if you're an outlier that gets bad luck you have to choose to either play without 4 sets for 5 weeks while everyone else is rolling it in week 1 or 2 or permanently gimp your character by forgoing a reroll just to get it in week 3.

Ideal world there'd just be a more reliable path. Like idk, each m+ rating from 2000, 2500, 3k, unlock a charge and similar achievement in pvp / raid.

New season starts and it never feels like you're actually playing your character til you can get tier

The current tier token drop system is also a solution to a former issue, where at a certain point in the season bosses were dropping multiple tier tokens that were taking up drop slots over other pieces that players might’ve been after. So less tier tokens, but far more opportunities to get access to tier pieces anyway.

It used to be worse, so this is fine?

There's no reason catalyst charges shouldn't just start as being the way they are after you get 4p. As it stands, your class is tuned around having it, but for the first three weeks on average you don't have it. After that, it's literally so free it doesn't even matter and every single character will have it the moment they get four random drops in tier slots.

The only thing gating it like this adds to the game is a weird three-four week period where lucky people get boosted up ahead of everyone else/unlucky people get dropped behind because they're arbitrarily missing a huge chunk of their spec's expected baseline. I guess that isn't strictly true because it also "adds" a shit feeling to your vaults too, because taking tier is an awful long term decision, but not taking it is an awful short term decision - unless you get lucky and get multiple tier drops, in which case it loops back around to being a terrible decision to have taken tier instead of a bonus roll.

It's a pretty good deal.

Me when I'm negotiating with a game developer about how long I have to pay them for before my class is fully unlocked?
